H-1B, layoffs, rising costs… is the "American dream" shifting for our community?

Lately it feels like every part of what we used to count on is changing:

Jobs & visas: PERM suspended, green card backlogs stretching for years, tech layoffs hitting Indian-origin workers hard, and companies freezing hiring. Even stable roles don’t feel as secure as they used to.

Market & costs: Rents, groceries, utilities up everywhere while raises don’t keep pace. I know people paying 2–3x more for basics than just a couple years ago.

Education: Student visas getting harder, tuition soaring, and families asking: is studying abroad still worth it if you can’t build a life here afterward?

Global shifts: India’s economy growing fast, opportunities there expanding, and ties between nations getting more complicated. More people I know are quietly weighing: stay and wait it out, or head back where things feel more welcoming?

This isn’t about giving up it’s about being real. The path here just looks very different from what earlier generations found.

What’s your honest take? Are you staying for now, planning to move, or still figuring it out? What’s the biggest factor driving your decision? 🤔
