C’mon Down

The shop plate reads. No windows, posters, anything.

Only one man could drum up so much attention.

The Angel Butcher’s back in town.

No bell or greeting on entry, just stairs into dark basement. It opens up to a bar and science lab’s work affair.

A mountain of muscle covered in scars turns towards you holding a bag.

-Must have heard I returned huh? I love seeing new prospect and you’re first in line.-

He turns and spills his hefty bag of…dismembered and assorted body parts onto an operating table.

-Pick two at least.-
He splits a knowing smile, -Take three, if you wager in a year I can’t take them back.-
-And… looking at you, I’ll throw in the Blood of Angels for free.-
-
-
Each item is accompanied by a stapled, woven, or staked description tag.

The Blood of Angels- A vial of red liquid sheened in oil slick rainbow. Your best attribute between strength, agility, intelligence, guile is multiplied by 1.5.

The Tuft- Unidentifiable hair that when chosen crumbles into ash. Gain a hybrid animalistic form that has 2x your best attribute and is only active once a day for an hour. Comes with the primary abilities of that animal such as birds for flight, fish for aquatics, men for learning.

The Eye- A dim red gnarl of nervous sinew, when chosen is absorbed into your skull.
Can control animals directly, spreads influence like contagion. Beginning with a rat to a pack of dogs in a few months.
More animals, or higher complexity animals, require immense mental capacity and processing.

The Poison- Manticore venom *enhanced* with my most consistent soothsaying elixir. Every day a question can be asked about only one specific passionate category of interest that you decide when you drink this. Any questions after the first come with splitting headaches.
The answer is always true.

The Moss- A scrap of measly moss growing on a liver slice. Grants immense endurance and regeneration. Wounds knit shut in minutes, old wounds and sicknesses are suppressed, limbs regrow in weeks.

The Arm- Bloodied skin and burned stump. Is easily integrated as a third arm with more dexterity than your original ones. Get too inebriated and it will react to dangers and threats with unmatched swiftness and aggression, able to catch and throw even bullets.

The Blade- He notices you eyeing his obviously Artifact level weapon, and chips a piece off. One swallow later, you feel it. At will you can summon a knife that will cut anything you can get the edge on.

The Nose- You can sense the potential in living creatures within 50 feet of you, you can even tell their size and fighting ability even if you can’t directly see them. Once a day you can inhale and gain a huge burst of productive focus while the target enters a depressive state.

-Run along now, and don’t forget to tell friend and foe, down below, to c’mon, c’mon down.-

blood of an angel (free) : I don't think i'm that strong/dexterous and guile isn't realy my best best, however i'm the smart kid in class, so I guess 1.5 more intelligence (whatever it means, should be good)

The tuft : even more int an hour a day

The moss : Very good regen and no more old wounds (also isn't this unaging-ness ?)

Poison : Use my newly *3 int (is it iq so i go like beyond 300 for an hour ?) to find the best theme to get a way to easily planeswalk (as magic is now 100% real)

For intelligence it directly impacts everything from IQ, memory, and learning. The moss is like a constant stream of revitalization for big physical wounds so I’d agree you’d get an increase in longevity of decades but not halt the decay of cells all together.

That's good enough for the moss lol, this much vitality also means I could get in better shape more easily (and I'd do a lot in order to get rid of my health issues)

And if I get a *3 to IQ (even if it doesn't mean that much), I think I could stop aging anyway, win huge money, and improve life/science

And anyway, afterward I got my question answering for free lol

The Blood of Angels, The Moss and The Blade.

Although I'm curious, what does "will cut anything you can get the edge on" really mean? Does that mean that if I get even a bit of scratch on object, I can cut it freely, or does that mean something else?

Yeah I didn’t wanna put “Cuts anything” to extend to the metaphysical. It’s a really good knife.

    • Don’t know what it will pick but I’ll always take a free buff.
  • Moss
    • Regeneration is a no brainer.
  • Manticore Poison
    • I’ll go with genetics for this one. It’s an interest of mine.

Do we get to pick the animal for the Tuft? And if we do, what happens if we try to pick one from mythology or fiction? The Poison at the very least seems to imply that manticores exist.

How esoteric can we get with The Blade? Are we limited to cutting material things, or might it be possible to cut things like concepts? Say for example I targeted the distance between two objects and swung at the space in between.

Yes you can pick the animal. Mythological creatures are real but aren’t simple animals, think mundane, earthly beasts.

And in response to another commenter the Blade does not extend to the metaphysical. Anything you can physically put that edge on will be divided. So the slicing edge wouldn’t be extended by cutting the air or emptiness of space.

  • Angel Blood
    • I'd say my best attribute is my intelligence.
  • The Eye
    • Being able to control animals directly means I can always outnumber enemies, plus it spreads like a contagion so I could get an army of rats, dogs, cats, and/or birds. Plus it means I can survive easily in the wild by using animals to hunt for me or as extra manpower.
  • The Moss
    • Regeneration is op considering any injury can be deadly.

...what's the catch? Am I going to hell for picking anything, since they butcher angels?

u/FoolPunisher 20d ago

He looks deep into your unscathed eyes and takes a deep breath.
-Well that’s the funny thing about Angels, they look all nice and pretty but they keep you on the lowest chain. Keeping all that bloated power in their blood, I’m doing my part- before he devolves into more rambling

That just raises further questions!

The Moss
As a basic bitch with arthritis I always pick the healing option, I may even get enough agility or strength back that Blood of Angels works for one of them instead of my default int or guile

The Tuft
Even if it's for an hour a day the bird flying sounds neat, perhaps i'll become a part time superhero? Also does it need to be one consecutive hour or can I toggle on/off?

The others are interesting but I don't fancy my chances against somebody who managed to hunt and gather these items in the first place so I wont be picking them buuut here's my pros/cons anyway as i'm bored

The Nose
Probably my most likely pick as a handy intel option, pretty sure it'd make me lose all hope of facing the butcher though

The Eye
If Worm taught me anything this would be a pretty overpowered choice over time, trouble is I have no real idea of what to us it for

The Blade
Very cool...but a bit redundant in a world already choc-full of weapon choices, sure I can't summon them and "cut anything" but when would I need to? Besides my bird form probably has some kinda talons on it if I really need something like that

The poison Due to my lack of imagination and fear of headaches i'm not sure how much use i'd get out of this

The Arm
Seems like the only one that's more curse than blessing, cool for self defense but i'm not sure i'd like having a third prehensile arm that apparently only works when drunk?

Anyway I liked this one, hope for more soon!

For The Tuft you can end the transformation early but once you pop the days use you need to wait to get it back.
