Question I just want this thing for my kid, doable with no experience?

Post image

So my 8 year old is autistic and gift giving times are always pretty tough with him as he's never really played with toys and his thing is tech. I'm not buying him a bunch of tech every holiday and birthday so I do a lot of custom stuff. I've never used a 3D printer, I have a relative who plays around with his own 3d printer (I know nothing about it) and said he'd help. This is my son's YouTube channel logo he made (I'm not getting into any of that here), he's about to hit 500 subscribers and he's super excited about it, which is a rare thing for him. I'd like to get him his little logo guy. I've tried looking online to just have someone make it for me but I really haven't had much luck with that. So, reddit. It took me a couple minutes to even figure out how to post this, I'm not real big on reddit or social media stuff so forgive me if I made an egregious errors here. And don't give me shit about the 8 year old on YouTube. I'll do my own job, I just need help with the 3d printing one.

Print (model not provided) Too early for Christmas prints? šŸ˜‚ Santa & Rudolph

This one was 3 plates and 2 days of printing on my P1S. Scaled it up 50% but turned out really nice. Anyone else find any nice models from the original Rudolph animation? One of my favorites as a kid.

Troubleshooting Found my problem, how can I solve this? (Tension Belts)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I noticed that something was causing my nozzle to have homing issues mid print, and I found the culprit. Like you see in the video, my top tension rod will not move without considerable force, but the bottom moves freely. This causes my printer to want to move diagonally only instead of X/Y (The printer behaves the same with power off and me moving the hotend by hand as well.)

At some point, I did get white lithium grease on the belts, so I wiped them all completely dry. That didn’t solve my issue at all. I loosened the screws to retighten my belts and that didn’t help either. Can anyone see anything that could be causing this? I obviously can’t print anything until I get it resolved but have no clue what to do.

Discussion Do you own an FDM and resin printer?

How many of you have an FDM printer and also own and use a resin printer?

I've been watching a couple of review videos of the Formlabs Form Studio 1 resin printer.

Resin printing seems a little more feasible these days than it used to be, but still seems like a bit of a hassle.

If you do own both an FDM printer and a resin printer, what do you mostly use the resin printer for that you don't feel like the FDM printer has the resolution or material for?

Question WT actual F Elegoo?

OK, I have a Mars 5. I know some people don’t like that printer, but I typically have awesome results from it. It’s my workhorse printer for printing DND minis.

Today I went to pull a couple of minis off the printer, and the build plate was still submerged in the resin. There was an error on the screen that said it had lost touch with the USB drive. OK. I probably shouldn’t have kept using the cheap drive that came with the printer. Fine.

So this evening, I took a few minutes to go clean it up and make sure everything was good to go to start printing again. I pulled the build plate off, and to my surprise what I found was not the usual failed print chaos… no partial chunk of something stuck… no. What I found was a very thin rectangular sign filling the entire build plate that said something like, ā€œElegoo advanced technologiesā€ or something like that. Not thinking, I took my scraper to remove it.

I should mention here that I am super anal about my 3-D printing workspace. My entire resin operation is contained in a metal cabinet with an exhaust hood. Everything has its place. I keep it meticulously clean. I wear gloves and a mask and an apron. Every time I work in there.

Well, my scraper hit that stupid sign that is somehow programmed to be the default fail state for my printer, and a flurry of tiny partially cured resin flakes went everywhere inside and outside of my cabinet & on my body!!! What an insanely stupid design! What in the actual heck were they thinking? Can anyone explain to me why?

More importantly, can anyone tell me if there’s a way to turn off this ā€œfeatureā€ so that this never happens to me again???? I just spent an hour of my life that I’ll never get back doing damage control, and things still aren’t right. Incidentally, I had to take my build plate outside to scrape it off and now I’m going to have to buy a new one because it’s all scraped and marked up. I am so angry right now. I just had to vent a little bit.

Discussion Not impressed with Bambu A1

I already own a Flashforge adventurer 5m and Anycubic Kobra 3, with little to no issues. I just picked up a Bambu A1 combo and for the money, I'm not that impressed. The overall quality of the machine seems really nice but everything else seems slow and awkward especially the AMS lite. I was debating between that and the Kobra x now I'm thinking I should have bought the Kobra x for over $100 less. Am I crazy?

Question I've seen a lot of formlabs posts which got me curious: has anyone had success printing this design?

I love the look of this pendant https://featureboard.ai/nativecad/web/labs-pendant#v2 that I saw on linkedin a few days ago but I don't have much experience with 3D printing or CAD. How easy is it? Has anyone printed something like this? What did you use?

Project 3D Print Idea for Page Placement back in ADF Feeder Entrance

Post image
0 Upvotes

I want a 3d print idea for this printer which is HP Deskjet 4278, with ADF scanner. Its ADF scanner which is the top part only has single side scanning, now if I have bulk pages to scan, i have to finished one side, turn them over and place them back on top side which is Point A here, to get other side scan. This is the manual work, not tedious but yes manual.

Now, where i live, the double sided scanner goes a bit expensive side for single household. I have a 3d printer, if i could 3d print a custom accessory for this, it would send the pages scanned with SIDE A , those will go back to Feeder entrance with Side B. I will customize the software to handle the scan buttom turn on again.

I need some ideas here how it will work and how can we go through, i know my idea is definitly realistic and possible. Please Help.

Question Food safety

Hi,

I'm designing af coffee bean doser, and would like your thoughts on food safety.
I am 3D printing the whole thing, and I'm wondering, if I print in food-safe PTEG on all contact surfaces, will that be fine? Its only dried goods, and the beans will ultimately be ground and brewed at 94 degrees celcius.
Or should I epoxy coat all contact surfaces?
Or just give up on the whole thing.

Happy for any advice and input!

Discussion Bambu filament alternative Holland

Hey folks,

I always buy the bambulab filament and order per 10 rolls so i get the 40% discount. Than it costs me around 10-12 euro per kilo.

I was wondering if there is a high quality alternative to order in holland. I saw sunlu and some other brands, but they don’t seem allot cheaper.

Any tips, suggestions or ideas/opinions?

This ammo box took 14 hours, I’m honestly not sure if that’s normal or not but I can’t be waiting 14 hours for 2 pieces. I’m running a flashforge AD5X and this next time I’m turning up everything until I get it under 8 hours. What shouldn’t I do? I’m not trying to break my machine. Thank you in advance for your help.

Discussion What is people's take on Formlabs trying to compete in the hobby price range again?

To me it seems like they didn't really know who to target, because they are launching non-cytotoxic resins alongside it which is much more applicable to researchers and industry (*edit cytotox testing was only on finished parts, I see the pitch for user safety). At the same time their new light engine resembles the multi LED arrays of older Elegoo printers, which most of the new low cost resin printers have moved away from towards one large monolithic LED + an expander lens + fresnel lens. On the other hand also long as the can provide a seamless experience like Bambu, they could be competitive, and they are well positioned with their post processing pipeline and material profiles. At least of rigid materials, they still have a lot of work to do on elastomer print reliability and resin stability. I do really like that open material is allowed by default, but the double edge sword is that someone will put trash resin in it, not do any tunning and complain that the machine sucks. I have seen this from experience watching / training undergrads trying to use non standard / elastomer resins on Elegoo, Formlabs, and even Carbon M1 that has a fully locked down material ecosystem.

To be completely clear, I am not hating on the Form Studio, I think it looks like a great printer and platform, I'm just interested in what other people's on the machine thoughts are.

Question Help me please

Okay, so my uncle gave me these to make a new ring for them since one is missing. No, the ring isn't rubber—it's hard af—but it comes off a wheelchair armrest. It’s used to keep the arms locked. I have no idea what the part is actually called or how to make models that need to be this precise. I have three days to make a solution. Any tips for the modeling part would be helpful!"

Troubleshooting How can I fix this PLA print?

I print PLA with a bed temperature of 65 degrees Celsius. This build plate is the https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0HCTY65LM . After some time the whole build plate does not stick to the bed anymore. Did anyone have a similar problem before?

I use the Snapmaker U1 with Snapmaker's version of Orcaslicer. I print with a layer height of 0.28mm via a 0.4mm nozzle. Speed is set to 200mm/s, first layer reduced to 50mm/s.

Question Food Dehydrator as Filament Dryer?

Do they work? Is performance on par with purpose made filiment dryers?

My silica are coming out of the bags i have my PLA in very green (Orange to Green indicator) and going to start printing in PETG so im going to need better moisture management. Saw the idea of using food dehydrator as a dryer and liked especially if i could source one cheap second hand but that isn't panning out so now I'm looking retail. But if I'm spending real money wondering if getting one over something purpose built makes sense. The other thing is i only have a Ender 3 S1 that i payed $30 for im not printing anything advanced or involved so throwing a ton of money into this doesn't make sense for me but the things i want to start printing (Fan covers, pc components, etc) I do need clean prints and minimal stringing with PETG so I need something.

Question Selling 3D Prints / service

Hi everyone,
I've been involved in the 3D printing world for a couple of years now, and I'd like to start offering my services for designing and printing custom-made parts and products, whether for cars, industry, gadgets, and much more.
However, I'm not sure where to start. Should I reach out to companies by email? Visit local businesses in person and offer my services directly? Or is there a better approach?
Also, do platforms like Vinted, eBay, and Etsy actually work for selling custom 3D-printed products and services?
Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! šŸ™
