1) you need a fat 32 formatted usb flash drive and a boot.iso file on the usb stick you can use the official ode boot file it works on clones
2) you need the games in folders otherwise they woln’t work
3) press the disc change button and will bring you to the menu to select your game your changing discs too
4 ) when you are feeding the ode in the console cut out a small area of plastic outside the shell and leave the ode hanging out of the console. NEVER LEAVE THE ODE INSIDE AS IT COULD HEATUP OR EVEN SHORT THE WHOLE CONSOLE OUT

Mine been inside my onsole for a bit now and now issues I got another ode clone and no issues with it either. I alsondont usually play my 3do for more than 1 hour or so.

static electricity ⚡️
1
u/Champdout79 Jan 07 '24
Static electricity only builds from friction. There is nothing rubbing inside my consoles
1
u/No-Ice4095 Jan 07 '24
oh good metal from that power supply in the 3do has ton of static electricity and ZERO GROUND. you are screwed if it arches or anywhere near that powersupply and touches .
1
u/Champdout79 Jan 07 '24
You may need to look up static electricity
1
u/No-Ice4095 Jan 07 '24
im saying if you don’t keep the ribbon cables away from the metal shields of the power supply and they rub together they could short everything out
1
u/Champdout79 Jan 07 '24
Umm apparently you never looked inside a 3do
1
u/No-Ice4095 Jan 07 '24
yeah i have a ode in my 3do and opened it and put tape over the metal below cd rom cables and have the ode hanging outside the top shell screwed in
1
u/Champdout79 Jan 07 '24
That is all fine if you want to do that but there is no need. There is no likelihood of the power supply and the ode touching one another. Unless you like going all leatherback and picking it up and shaking it while it is plugged in and turned.
1
u/No-Ice4095 Jan 07 '24
its best opinion to keep it outside the console so you can plug the usb flash drive in your computer and add games
1
u/Champdout79 Jan 07 '24
The cd rom ribbons are fairly ridged with no give and if there was a issue of the power supply and the ribbon cable touching them the cd rom would been moved in the console from factory. The while ode until sits behind the cd rom drive section where I used kapton tape to insulate any areas it could be a possible issue also i have another post on here for my other 3do ode and is plugged into the console and where it is located in the console. I did not remove my cd rom drive I just installed it behind it I used kapton tape on the metal surfaces around the ode and the power supply can not touch each other cause it can not touch each other due to using the factory cd rom cables. If you own a 3do you might want to open it and look for yourself before blurting out stuff to someone that been doing this kind of stuff for a while and has a background in mechanics and electronics.

ode and your 3do console will be dead 💀
1
u/Champdout79 Jan 07 '24
Nope there is ground in the wiring from the cd rom cables there is also ground on the console as well and if I feel there is a issue I got another console and a second ode. Which I can run ground wires from

im not having any luck with mine working, have done 1 & 2 but only see the 3do logo for a split second then black screen, even after pressing disc change. Any ideas? I also tried loading the sata23do file to it, but when the folder for the device opens the file does not show, folder is empty, any advice appreciated.

u/Particular-Cry-8668 Feb 16 '24
Same situation, there
1
u/VastApprehensive2061 Feb 17 '24
im still having the issue, I hold the button to try and load the files to it, but they dont persist, when I un plug and re plug in USB, the files are gone, so I think there may be a some unique way to save them, not sure yet.

u/InvestigatorNext476 Jun 13 '25
The file is meant to vanish once the bootloader has consumed it, so sounds like you were successfully updating the firmware.
I know this is a year old, but if you still have the ode, you could try my rebuilt firmware here:

I designed a holder for this exact ODE. Holds it nicely and securely. No issues with overheating or shorting.

What'd it cost?
4
u/Champdout79 Dec 29 '23
This one was $40 after taxes. But took a long time to get here. It works perfectly no setup except down load the boot.iso and place roms on flash drive. No ufi file to load on the ode like my other one.

Nice. My FZ-10 really needs one.
2
u/Champdout79 Dec 29 '23
It only works for fz1
1
u/_RexDart Dec 29 '23
Yeah that's been the pattern :(
2
u/Champdout79 Dec 29 '23
Fz1 is easier to get and more readily available for testing and modding.
1
u/_RexDart Dec 29 '23
Maybe I should get one for playing and just display the 10
2
u/Champdout79 Dec 30 '23
Hell yeah I think the fz1 is more recognizable as the 3do.
1
u/_RexDart Dec 30 '23
Yeah I don't know if that's a great thing though. I like how the FZ-10 looks like a turbo duo. FZ-1 looks like 80s Dillard's fixtures. That's partly why I didn't care until like 2012.

I just got one of these too but still need to install it

It's now working!!!!!!!
Mine appeared to have the same issue but the uf2 file didn't fix the problem.
I recapped the 3do! this didn't fix the issue.
The fix for me was to reflow and add solder to the Pico board, some have a dry solder joints.

Revisa los pines del conector de la placa. Los mios al presionar vuelve a funcionar.
1
u/SolidusGr Dec 29 '23
Is this ode only for fz1 or it does work for fz10 too?
2
u/Champdout79 Dec 29 '23
Fz1 only
1
u/JayMax19 Dec 29 '23
I thought you could use them but that it required a stupid amount of soldering.
1
u/Champdout79 Dec 29 '23
Only for the ones made for a fz10 there is no simple solution and fz1 version not compatible with fz10. But fixel makes a external that works with the fz10.
1
u/xchester77 Dec 29 '23
I guess fixel ode is gonna drop in value. I have 2 fixel odes in my fz-1s.
I have one of these on order just to try it out and compare.
Kinda amazing that $250 is replicated for $40.

u/Champdout79 Dec 29 '23 edited Dec 29 '23
I just saw mnemo has dropped the price on his fz1 internal ode it is now $150 + $15 shipping the pi pico changes a lot in the way things are done on old consoles there is even a pico boot for the gamecube.
1
u/trapexit Dec 29 '23
It isn't. The open source project this is based on doesnt offer all the features / future features. It works as just a basic ODE in a similar way but then again fixel and I helped the author create it.
1
u/xchester77 Dec 29 '23
Good to know.
What are the advanced features? Memory management?
If I perform certain actions with the open source might it crash?
1
u/valthonis_surion Dec 29 '23
Any idea how it handles disc swaps for games with multiple discs?
1
u/valthonis_surion Dec 29 '23
Let me rephrase. I see the disc change button, but do you have to open the console to use the button?

This link says there are versions that support the fz-10, Goldstar, and Sanyo consoles.
It includes pics.

1
u/Champdout79 Dec 29 '23
The phrase is "versions" it is not the fz10 in the pic only goldstar variants actually there are some varient pcbs with rp2040 that are different than what I bought.
1
u/xchester77 Dec 30 '23
The first image of a console is the fz-10.
https://www.gametechwiki.com/w/index.php/File:3DO_FZ10_teardown_03.jpg
1
u/Champdout79 Dec 30 '23
Yeah thatnis a different board made by that particular person and if you zoom in you can see all those tiny solder points in that middle section which can spell doom for a person with beginner solder skills hell I been soldering since the 90s I still hate those kind of solder joints cause it is easy to make a cold solder joint. I stick to the easy fz1 plug and play.
1
u/xchester77 Dec 30 '23
It sounds like you're just being difficult.
First, it's not there. Then, it's there but it's not good cuz someone might have to know how to solder.
Any solution for the fz-10 is good; solder required or not.
It looks like just a few wires to vias. It doesn't get much easier than that. 30 awg, in the hole, good flux, good solder, right temp - and you're set.
Even if you had a cold joint, we're talking about what looks like 3 wires. Not that hard to go over again.
If someone isn't comfortable soldering, that's what installers are for.
FZ-10 lasers aren't going to last forever. This existing is a good thing.

Mine needs uf2 firmware, if it is possible to dump the uf2 from a working ode I could fix him, but I would need someone's help, someone who could dump his own ode firmware and share, there is a lot of people needing for pico classic.

I tried to flash the uf2 and it didn't worked, I tried to compile for raspberry pico and didn't worked and I tried to flash nuke_flash.uf2 before too to clean the flash and didn't worked, I tried to flash blink on my pico to ensure it was not broken and worked, I think the github is made only for waveshare, but I paid lots of cash for this and the menu doesn't work anymore.

u/BenoitBB Jul 21 '24
Toujours pas de solution pour la fz-10 ? Je viens de terminer l'installation mais je cherche toujours le boot.iso a utilisé
1
u/Particular-Cry-8668 Jul 22 '24
My fz-10 is just for cds, I only use usb with my fz-1 because the cd reader is garbage, apart from that, it is very different systems on terms of component parts, same goes for the odes
1
u/lal0core Feb 19 '24
same issue here, do you have some solution?
1
u/Particular-Cry-8668 Feb 20 '24
seems that it has a special uf2 just for raspberry pico, but no one wants to share
1
u/lal0core Feb 20 '24
Dang! I think I'm going to have to spend my money again buying another ODE from a different seller (don't buy from "Game Parts Store" seller please, it's not even a friendly seller trying to help you), someone told me that the ODE that works best are the ones that have the pico pi integrated and not the one that is soldered :(

They aren't clones when it's an open source project.
