Mindanao is like Palestine because, since in the beginning, the Spanish colonizers couldn't beat the Muslims in the south through a series of wars, so they thought of a clever strategy. Since they couldn't bring the Moros to their knees, they found a clever way to reduce the Muslim population by flooding the lands of Mindanao with Christian illegal settlers. Slowly, they crawled like cancer into Muslim lands.
When the Americans took over, they adopted the same tactics, bringing Christian illegal settlers to the land. And also when the Philippines finally gained its independence, they simply just followed what their masters had been doing: an influx of Christian illegal settlers into Mindanao. To eradicate the Muslim population and to drive them off in thier lands.
And take note: they were supported by the government with farming equipment and everything they needed to settle on the land, while Muslim farmers were neglected and deprived of the support they needed
And then the Moros were like, "Okay, we're so done with you b*llshit stealing our lands!"
The Moro elders and intellectuals eventually formed the MNLF in 1972 to fight against the Christian militias backed by the Philippine government, and the rest is history.
