Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP): additional 25% on top of your base pay + locality. Must work an average of 50 hours per week over the course of the calendar year. LEAP is considered a part of “basic pay” for purposes of determining high 3 for retirement calculations.

Overtime: Technically available for pre-scheduled (prior to the pay period starting) operations. Generally, it is not approved outside of major events. Overtime (OT) M-F generally requires working base hours, and LEAP (+2) prior to earning OT; OT is straight pay.

Other Pay

Night Differential:

10% for regularly scheduled hours between 6pm–6am

Sunday Premium:

25% for regularly scheduled Sunday work (again, not LEAP).

Holiday Premium Pay:

Paid double time for work on a federal holiday.

AUO / COPRA (other agencies):

ERO uses AUO (Administratively Uncontrollable Overtime).

CBP Officers use COPRA overtime rules.

Border Patrol use BPAPRA.

Leave

Sick leave is provided at 4 hours / pay period (104 hours / year) for your time in service. There is no cap.

Annual leave you can only roll over 240 hours a year. It accrues as follows:

https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/pay-leave/leave-administration/fact-sheets/annual-leave/

< 3 years of service: 4 hours/pay period (104 hours/year)

3-14 years of service: 6 hours/pay period (156 hours/year)

15+ years of service: 8 hours/pay period (208 hours/year)

Military leave is granted to reservists at 20 days per year. Can roll over up to 240 hours. If the 20 days is exceeded then differential pay is offered if you make less in your military role.

Parental leave is given to those who have a child or adopt a child. It is 3 months worth of leave that must be used within 1 year. More details here: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/pay-leave/leave-administration/fact-sheets/paid-parental-leave/

OPSEC - Please Read

The mod team would like to remind everyone to practice good operations security (OPSEC) while using r/1811 and Reddit as a whole. Recently, one of our members here was doxxed via Reddit when he posted some strong political opinions. I haven't read the blog, but he admits by his own account that the views were abrasive and crossed the line. While they weren't illegal, they weren't something he wanted tied to his real identity.

r/1811 is an open subreddit, unlike other closed law enforcement subs, for the simple purpose of allowing those of us who have broached the world of employment as an 1811 to answer questions and help those that are attempting to do the same. While the vast majority of the sub are noble people with the right intentions, the unfortunate reality is there are also unsavory characters patrolling this sub, reading everything we do and say. As another mod pointed out, in last years recap Russia was the third most popular country for our users.

Our member was doxxed when he had a 12 year old post that linked to another website that contained his real name. That is the kind of digging that people will do to reveal who you are, should you post or comment something they want to use against you.

I recommend everyone do a few things:

  1. Utilize throw away and segmented Reddit accounts. For example, I have an account for modding this sub, another account for my gaming interests, another account for my fitness interest, so on and so fourth. This is allowed and encouraged by Reddit themsevles, so long as you don't use multiple accounts to upvote or downvote specific comments/posts.
  2. Practice good hygiene and clean your account frequently. For example, approximately once a week I'll wipe all comments and posts off of my account. This isn't a failproof solution, as there are plenty of services and websites out there that scrape reddit and permanetly log comments. Do not post anything you wouldn't feel comfortable saying in front of your boss, spouse, or the public, but at least keeping good online hygiene will make it harder for people to string your comments together. You can do as I do manually, or you can use the extension "Nuke Reddit". It is an extension that no longer works in Google Chrome, but does work in Microsoft Edge. It will overwrite, and then delete all your comments in bulk, and can also do your posts. It is much faster and cleaner than doing it manually.

Lastly, we are going to try to more closely monitor and moderate this subreddit. For example, in the past we have enforced that users claiming to be active 1811's first get verified with r/ProtectAndServe, and that we would honor that verfication and give an 1811 flair here. I will again be enforcing this rule to try to separate potential spam accounts from real posters, and non verified users posting as 1811s will have their comments locked/removed. Additionally, we will be locking more threads and comments that are off topic, already answered before, and the like.

Thank you to everyone, we always enjoy seeing the "recieved the call" posts no matter if you're headed for a stairwell, an indian reservation, the southern border, the Kyrgyzstan embassy, or the local post office, we welcome you all and could use the help!

ATF interim clearance

Just had my teams meeting with PIV for my interim clearance. Literally just asked for my license and birth certificate. That’s all.

Is anyone tracking the timeline after this “meeting” before the preference sheet is sent to me?

Also, I received an email for medical yesterday requesting more documents over my lasik/vision. I immediately sent them the requested info. Will this take a long time to clear and will I be made aware when it’s cleared?

Question SCUSPD Application Timeline: Waiting for the 1-Year Mark

Hey everyone,

Looking for some guidance regarding the Supreme Court of the United States Police Department (SCUSPD) hiring process.

Here is my current background:

Current Role: NYPD Police Officer (Appointed Dec 17, 2025).

Experience Milestone: I will hit my full 1-year of sworn law enforcement experience on December 17, 2026.

The Dilemma: I noticed that current USAJobs application windows for SCUSPD run through October 31, 2026. Since I won't cross that 1-year full-time sworn mark until December, I am trying to figure out the best timing strategy.

I've heard that SCUSPD frequently utilizes a monthly recurring posting cycle on USAJobs.

My questions for those familiar with the agency:

Do SCUSPD announcements reliably roll over every month, or should I expect gaps where postings disappear for a while?

If the October window closes before I hit my 1-year mark, is waiting for the January 2027 posting window the safest bet to ensure HR doesn't bounce my application for lacking the full 12 months at the time of submission?

Any tips from former/current guys on when to drop the federal resume package to catch the first review batch of the new year?

Appreciate any insights!

Federal LEO Medical

Looking for insight into the medical process for ATF onboarding. I’m with local LE and just completed the first half of my ATF medical. I’m assuming I scored poorly, which has happened before on the audiogram when I first onboarded with local LE. Local LE had me see an audiologist to make sure I was good and eventually cleared me. I have no noticeable hearing loss outside when a test like this is administered….

- Does anyone know what the conversation is going to look like with the doctor when I go back?
- Will they allow for medical referrals similar to my initial encounter with this?

Any advice helps.

Question Referred to the hiring manager!

Hey Fam!

So I’ve been consistently getting referred to the hiring manager for a good amount of 1811 gigs at the 7 and 9 level.

However, I am not getting any interviews. I also haven’t really received a “you have not been selected”.

How does this section of the process typically work? Is there something that I need to do on my side to secure an interview. (Is it my resume that needs to be strengthened)

I have no kids, no family holding me back from relocating, so I am absolutely interested in any opportunities! That will allow me to start the federal clock in the 1811 series.

Is it because I’m selecting Florida and Texas? Should I start selecting NYC or other cities! Any advice would be appreciated!

Note: (Taking the SAEE in November for USSS; as far as the ATF, I can pass the ATF PTT on treadmill, but I am not confident in passing it outside!)

I just need some guidance! Thank you all!!

USFS 1811 openings - any movement?

Hello all,

USFS had at least three openings for 1811s over the past few months. One was for 12/13s, another was for 13/14s and another was for 11/12/13s.

I got referred for all three, but it has been absolute crickets. Has any 1811 applicant (from outside USFS) been contacted by a hiring official? I know they mostly keep it in house, but curious if anyone has any insight.

- a non USFS 1811 applicant

Question Advice needed ATF - Medical situation

Hello, all

I’m currently in the process with ATF and have the second part of the medical evaluation scheduled for next Thursday, 22/October. I’m supposed to get physically evaluated by the doctor and do the EKG.

Now, I find myself in a bit of a predicament and need some advice. I, unfortunately, am going through a bout of some pretty bad sciatica pain down my left leg. This has been going on since early August. I am currently in the process of getting treatment, but it has been an uphill battle.

Some painkillers I’ve been prescribed have really helped keep the pain at bay, and I’m looking into getting a steroid injection to help manage the pain as well.

Now, here’s what I want advice on. Do you guys think I should take the painkillers and try to power through the medical, or if it’s possible, try to contact HR and see if I could get my application put on a medical hold while I recover?

Those of you who are currently 1811s with ATF and those of you that are currently going through the process and have already done the medical portion, I would particularly appreciate your advisement.

- What does the physical evaluation with the doctor consist of?

- And do you think it would be possible to put my application on a medical hold?

Let me know you guys’ experience and what you believe is the best course of action. Thanks in advance.

Question Nevo

Anyone have any advice for NEVO training? I'm somewhat early on into FLETC but Nevo is coming up and I haven't parallel parked since I took my drivers test. Which was a couple years ago so I plan on doing some parallel parking practice but wondering if there is anything else I can do. It's really the only part of FLETC i'm nervous for.

Question ATF SPECIAL AGENT SRT

With the uptick in hiring for ATF is there a shortage for SRT personnel as well? Does current special operations (LE) experience help expedite the process to try out after special agent training is completed?

I’ve been told in the past you have to wait 3yrs before trying out. Just wondering if that time is shortened with special operation experience and the current uptick in hiring.

FPS Law Enforcement Specialist (1801-Inspectors) and 1811's? How's the OT and other opportunities looking over there currently?

Hi all. For those who may know, how much are FPS 1801s (and 1811s) earning with OT (I've seen the locality pay for my region)? I read that the OT is uncapped.

Has FPS, like other DHS agencies, morphed into an agency that provides a pool of available personnel for other agencies?

For example, Inspectors (or 1811's) getting the opportunity to volunteer (or be ordered) for:

Border deployments under Biden or Trump?

Deportation Flights under Trump

USSS details for UNGA as well as during an election year.

Sitting on the president's residence detail when he was running for POTUS

Any other USSS details?

C-UAS details for large events or USSS?

If allowed, how much do inspectors generally take home biweekly with OT?

Has FPS ever NOT waived the cap? Resulting in working serious OT for free?

For context: (GS-09, Step 1, if the person was first getting on the job as an 1801; GS-11, Step 1, if the person was just getting on as an 1811)

and yes... I know FPS Inspectors are not 6(c)...Please spare me lol

Recent ATF PTT experience

Applied to ATF in February, got the link to take my test not long after and passed. Didn’t hear anything from them until last month when I got notified I was moving onto the PTT. I think I’m in the first batch of people doing their PTT through a third party so figured I would share my experience The following timeline is from just trying to schedule my PTT

9/30- receive email asking me to fill out questionnaire. After completing the questionnaire I was given a phone number to call to schedule my PTT by 10/13.

10/1- Called the number and left a message

10/6- company calls back from a different number which I didn’t answer because I didn’t recognize it. They leave a message. I return the call 5 min later and get voicemail again. Leave another voicemail asking for them to call.

10/7- start getting a little nervous and call the company again. No answer again.

10/8- still haven’t heard anything from company and call again and get voicemail. Email my recruiter and update them on the situation. The scramble and say I can do an in person PTT on 10/13 only if the company doesn’t call back.

10/9- company calls back and says they have an opening on 10/12. After confirming details they tell me that they have to call the office with the opening and confirm the opening is available. Call me back about an hour later and tell me the office didn’t answer and they would call me back to confirm when they did.

10/12- got a call confirming the office could fit me in later in the day.

Onto the test. The location was a workman’s comp office. They told me upon my arrival they had never administered an ATF PTT but had done a DEA one previously. All 5 employees working observed my test because they wanted to see what I had to do and were amazed by the standards…. None of the people in the office look like they had workout in their life. The ‘proctor’ was about 18-19 years old. She had an atf handout instructions for each exercise but did not read off the paper. She explained to me how to do the sit-ups and tried demonstrating them but was unable to complete a rep. The instructions she gave me were for DEA so she told me to put my hands on my shoulders and that my elbows had to touch my knees. I told her my understanding of atf standards and showed her the video I had received explaining the technique. She then reads the print out and tells me I was right. I start sit-ups and after about 10 reps she tells me I need to touch my elbows to my knees. Instead of arguing mid set I started bringing my knees to my elbows. I readjust how I’m sitting which causes her to lose her position in my feet so she has to readjust. I’m counting my reps in my head because she isn’t counting them out loud. I finish and counted 44 reps. She tells me she counted 35, I asked her how she got 35 and she told me some of my reps didn’t count because I hadn’t brought my elbows to my knees. 100% my fault I thought 35 was passing and I don’t want to argue with the woman who’s proctoring my test so I move on. She offers me the chance to do them again if I want but I thought I had passed.

Pushup instructions are fine. I start doing my pushups and get to 50. I stop and look at the proctor and confirm she counted 50 and then stop with about 10 seconds remaining because I was most nervous about my run and wanted to save energy. Proctor immediately tells me I’m disqualified because I didn’t complete the whole minute. I explain the scoring system to her and she talks to a couple of the other workers there and tells me that she would mark down that I had completed 50 reps and that I had ‘completed’ the exercise.

Run- my run was on a treadmill at a 1% incline. Only distance, time and speed were on the treadmill. I had previously done most of my runs using the pace setting on the treadmill and should have probably spent more time paying attention to what speed matched what pace but I had a general idea. The proctor originally set the treadmill up for a distance run for 1.5 miles so the treadmill would’ve stopped after the 1.5 miles. In the video I watched they clearly say you can get the treadmill up to the speed you want while you stand on the side and then jump on. This would have resulted in me not running 1.5 miles because the belt would’ve been running without me on it. I said this to my proctor and again showed her the video, she reread the instructions and agreed. She couldn’t figure out how to set the treadmill up correctly so this resulted in me having about a 10 minute break. Finally she gets it set up and as I’m about to get on she says ‘okay this is untimed so just make sure you don’t stop running’. We have another conversation and she realizes it is timed so she goes and gets a stop watch. I start my run at .03 miles. When I reached 1.5 miles she comes back over and says ‘almost done’ at 1.53 miles she says ‘ok’ so I jump off. She immediately says ‘oh no you were supposed to go to 1.55. I push back and tell her when I looked down when I started running it was at .03. I ran my 1.5 in 11:20ish. She tells me it’s okay and she’ll figure it out. I then sit in the waiting room for about 10 min and she comes back out with a sticky note where she had done the math on my time and calculated how long it would’ve taken me to run the extra .02 miles and added that onto my time. I was still under the required time and at this point I just wanted to be done so I signed my score sheet and left. Got back in my car and pulled up what I needed and realized I had missed sit-ups by 1. Immediately called my recruiter and were currently working through it. But for all those looking at taking your PTT in its current format be prepared to have to walk your proctor through the correct techniques and know what you can and can’t do because chances are, your proctor doesn’t know.

ATF February announcement

Is anyone else still in that limbo stage after receiving notice of passing the interview and submitting the security document packages. Last email I received was to stand by for another email coming to schedule the next steps. February ATF announcement
