I really just don't want a defensive head coach. If you have an offensive head coach calling plays you never need to be in the Bucs position worrying every year if some franchise is gonna steal your guy. The league is so offense heavy it almost feels necessary. Like Trevor needs that guy right now. If he sucks this season everyone is bailing on him.
3
u/Least_Platform_487 Jan 23 '25
We should hire the best guy for the job and for the whole team not the best guy for Trevor. That being said Glenn and Vrabel were the only defensive guys I really liked so hopefully we go offense now. Saleh is kinda just meh.
3
u/adancingfuel Jan 23 '25
I would agree if your QB wasn't paid as one of the top guys in the NFL. You have to make sure your investment is worth it.
→ More replies (4)2
u/EatMyShortzZzZzZ Brian Thomas Jr. Jan 23 '25
Exactly. Like imagine if our new HC finds that one OC that elevates Trevor to having an MVP year. That guy is gone immediately, especially because Trevor is seen, fairly or unfairly, as a guy who has failed to live up to his potential
10
u/TrevorsBlondeLocks16 Jan 23 '25

u/Sad_Bolt Jan 23 '25
Agreed, he’s an experienced coach and a genius defensively. He’s got connections all over the NFL and could bring some actual NFL minds in the building. I do however worry about Shad not letting the future HC having say on the GM situation and repeating all of this again.
10
u/mlsweeney Jan 23 '25

I don't get the narrative all the good coaches are gone. Ben Johnson is really the only one that was consensus everyone wanted, we never seemed interested in Glenn and I'm sure many of us wanted an offensive coach anyway, and no other team aside from us wanted Coen who would've been a high risk high reward hire either way.
8
u/EatMyShortzZzZzZ Brian Thomas Jr. Jan 23 '25
Its more that the guys that Shad as an owner wanted at the top of his list both said no baalke and yet he persisted with the guy. Spectacularly stupid move by him.
For the record I think Ben was already gone regardless, but Liam could have been won over. It's just malpractice to sabotage yourself like that for a loser GM.

6
u/StuartScottsLazyEye Jan 23 '25
Maybe I'm being extremely dumb (I am a lifelong fan of this franchise after all) but today's O Zone made me think there might be more hope on the Coen front than I thought. It would have been very easy to shut that speculation down and move the focus to other candidates while toeing the company line of how great those remaining candidates are. But he very specifically called the Coen situation "fluid", when there is no incentive to leave that door open unless there was a real chance or at least effort by the Jags.

The news I want to hear today is Monken coming in for a second interview. I'm not gonna hold my breath though.
4
Jan 23 '25
He’s a little older than ideal. But the way Prisco talks about him, he could be the type of coach this franchise needs. He apparently doesn’t sugarcoat anything. That sounds like the kind of guy Khan needs.
5
Jan 23 '25
Honestly do you care that much about age? Everyone wants a 33 year old coach but it's not actually like that coach will be there for 30 years. He is three years younger than Jim Harbaugh.
3

Jim Harbaugh isn’t a first time head coach. He’s well established. New coaches are usually younger than Monken. He’d be the sixth oldest coach in the league if he gets the job.

Did well at different stops (LSU, Reversed the funk in Buffalo) and with context was able to bring Carolina up in the midst of their doldrums.
I view him as a problem solver and Trevor could utilize that approach to get him back in a thriving groove. His scheme uses play action, schemes up easy Button plays that take advantage of defensive tendencies, and it’s a variety of formations which directly answer’s khan wanting a less predictable offense.

I don’t see it.
That's because there's nothing to see. Brandon Beane built an awesome O Line and they have Josh Allen at QB. It's not my intent to diminish his accomplishments but you have to be truly dreadful as OC, like Ken Dorsey, to fumble that opportunity.

Jeanty was amazing to watch this year. I really like the depth and value in this RB class with guys like Skattebo and Ollie Gordon potentially being available with a mid-round pick. I also really like Henderson, Judkins, Ja’Quinden Jackson, and DJ Giddens. Not sure if we are looking for a back or not but I wouldn’t be surprised with Coen’s RB usage with the Bucs. With us having two picks in the 3rd, 4th, and 6th rounds, I could see us snagging one with one of those extra picks if the value is there.
