I know this game is meaningless but I really hope we get it in today. I want to hear Gary one more time this season. Let's appreciate it while we can, because you know this weekend we're going to have to listen to Eduardo Perez gargle Soto's nuts for 6+ hours. LFGM

Rain delay is perfect, they get to see how Freddie is doing and can insert Jeff to PH if needed. Or if Freddie gets an out in his first or second at bat, it’s a wrap and Jeff can rest

We can beat the Nationals. Juan Soto and Josh Bell are former Nationals.
Therefore, we can beat the Padres.
QED and I am taking no constrictive criticism on this theory.

And the other big difference is that the Mets have to play on Friday, while the Dodgers get a bunch of days off. Mets are resting lots of their starters today, just as they should in a meaningless game right before the playoffs.

This will likely be the last day of MLB games without advertising directly on the uniforms. There's rumors of helmet ads coming for the postseason. Every day I think about how much of an absolute sell-out move it is and how the teams will just be billboards for corporations.

i know we are lamenting that the boys couldn’t do this over the weekend but i really believe it was the intense pressure and nerves of facing the braves with the division on the line, it was the closest all of them got to playoff baseball and i’m hoping it prepared them for that pressure so we can show up 110% for the post season

Alvarez has looked great tonight in his 3 appearances. Even though he struck out the last one.
I just think he was so amped up in Atlanta being his first games he was less in control.
I really think he’s going to do something special in the playoffs. Has to stay in his zone though

Freeman 2-2 already. Scenarios:
If Freddie goes 4-4 he passes McNeil if McNeil doesn't bat.
If Freddie goes 4-5 McNeil keeps the lead without batting
If McNeil PHs and goes 1-1, Freddie still passes him again if he goes 5-5. McNeil wins if Freeman goes 4-4.
McNeil PHs and goes 0-1 Freddie passes him going 4-5.
Please Lord all we need is 1 out from Freeman so we can keep Jeff on the bench to clinch it.

According to Sherman, Mets are leaning towards Max G1. G2 would depend on the situation. If Mets won G1, Bassitt goes, if not deGrom. If they lose Bassitt's start, deGrom goes G3.

It'd be funny if Lindor picks up like the worst car he can find on Craigslist and makes a big deal about unveiling it to Jeff. Like, he's expecting a Tesla, and it's a beige 1988 Buick Regal with no radio, that smells like pot, and has a leaky head gasket and a cracked mirror.

A little off topic but whatever: I’m bummed about the division, and I’m hopeful for a successful postseason, but man, I am going to miss watching baseball almost every night and I’m sad it’s almost over. We finally caved for Hulu premium to get SNY (among other luxuries) this year and actually being able to watch baseball all summer for the first time since I was like 18 years old has been really nice. I hope we go all the way; the season and the division race was so exciting and it’s hard to drum up excitement for the postseason after this week’s letdown.

Lmfao ok, Gore getting a hit sorta makes that McCann homer seem a little less impressive
Fedde is out there throwing nonsense

Let this be a lesson. Whenever you feel like the world is useless and you'll die alone, just remember that James McCann once hit a useless homerun in an obligatory game.
There's hope for everyone.

I doubt I’ll watch this whole game but this series is EXACTLY what I wanted to see after the horror show. Just get hot, win some games, and go into the playoffs on a good note.

The only one pitcher will pitch twice in the NLDS (if it goes to 5 games) and that's the pitcher who pitches NLDS Game 1. In other words, the guy who is scheduled to pitch WC Game 3 and doesn't because Mets win the first two games.
The only other way for a a pitcher to pitch twice in the NLDS is if they pitch on one day less rest. WC Game 1 then NLDS Game 1 is 4 days instead of 5.
Long story short, I trust Max or Hound to pitch a WC Game 3 or pitch twice in a 5 game series over Jake.
Jake is a Mets legend so I'll get hated for that, but he's not been consistent lately. Hound has been consistent, and Max usually has.
Therefore, I'd prefer
Hound, Jake Max or Max, Jake, Hound rotation in the WC.
Max has to go Game 3. If not him then Hound has to go Game 3 over Jake.
And Jake has to go Game 2, because that would give him 6 days till Game 3. Of the 3 pitchers he could use the extra day the most.

Congrats to Real Deal Jeff McNeil. As somebody who rolls their eyes into 2002 at anybody who cites average in isolation, batting titles are fun, and batting averages aren't even the best way to measure the ability to get base hits, but Jeff is definitely the best at getting base hits.

Braves lineup today was not one with intentions to win. They threw out Jackson Stephen’s and played mostly bench players in the majority of positions. Not saying it still couldn’t have been a loss, but it was already rumoured that they would have pitched Max Fried today if they had to, plus played all their regulars.
