The way Cruz has gone from having some of the most consistently bad looking ABs to some of the most patient I've seen from a Pirate in recent memory is incredibly impressive.

I mean the Buccos have sent guys out there looking completely lost at the plate for multiple years with no signs of improvement.

(I'd rather we sign an actual free agent talent)

But he's a third baseman by trade and we don't really need to fill that position, is the skill-set tremendously different between third and first?

That's an option that might be worth exploring at some point, but it's too early to count on Andujar for much of anything. We have to see if his shoulder is in good enough shape to allow him to recapture some of his previous hitting. If so, great. If not, we need to look elsewhere.

M2B (Miggy 2 Bags - our name for him - who just tripled) wasn't the best at 3B, and after that labrum surgery recovery period, he was replaced by Gio Urshuela. As a RailRider who was the leader in RBI's, Miggy was doing LF and barely DH. He was one of the back up LFs when he was called up for double headers, and Yankee Stadium has a cavernous LF. He was never CF and barely RF. He is super fast, can handle a bigger outfield (don't know your dimensions).
