I just want to say, it’s been a great season being in here with you all! Some of you may agree with my takes, some may hate them, but I’ve truly enjoyed the community. Hopefully, we have plenty to talk about in the coming months

Idk if I’ll be able to be here for game 162 but man this is such a sad day 😔 also it’s 4:22, I am up and here too early

We need to have some big ol’ memorial to the season, all the memes, jokes, laughs, tears (maybe not tears), all that. Our LuGo facts, open horniness and erotica, dfa blet, disdain for an O U T S T A N D I N G player, RUF IS ON THE MOVE, you’re welcome fuckwad, COBBSTUME, youth movement from our guys making the majors to those awesome prospects, mustache May, Hjelle is tall, talking shit about trolls/dicks who come here, “I come in peace twitches”, pants off that’s game…

As stated by poet Scott Mescudi, “all the crazy shit I did tonight, those will be the best memories. I just want to let it go for the night, that would be the best therapy for me.” 🥲🥲🥲

I know a lot of us are conflicted on how to feel about this season, and I had a thought:

It's been like a whole day since we heard from Roger Maris's kid. Maybe we should ask him how to feel? I mean, he is Roger Maris's kid, so his opinion is probably relevant, right?

8

u/sabat 39 Krukow Oct 05 '22

How should I feel about the Yankees? Without Maris' kid to tell me, I don't know what to do.

81-81 while having the worst defense in the league and putting TLS at leadoff. Not bad boys, all things considered. Correct either the defense or TLS and we're a playoff team

Well, this is it, it’s going to be the first time I watch all 162 games. What a season to decide to do that 😅

I don’t think I’ll be doing that next year, it’s so much fun but so exhausting d: I mean I’ll never miss a game if I’m just home of course, but anyways.

At the end of the day, the season wasn’t too bad… got to see some young players start developing and that has me really excited. The lows were really low, and the highs had a hard time balancing that out for sure, but we still have great memories to remember this season by, both on the baseball field and in here.

And just in case today is the last day we can say it… DFA blet, with the most extreme prejudice.

Reason number 10000 that traditionalists.are wrong about umpires. Players get criticized, booed and sent down for bad performance. So should umps. They should receive the same amount of criticism as everyone else.

9

u/Amazben 17 Ramos Oct 05 '22

I definitely agree!

Just throwing this out there: what if umps had to look at iPads and review their calls between half-innings, like players and catchers do?

You know what, this team not being as good as last year probably helped make these threads more fun than they were last year.

Even a Mets fan on r/baseball noted just how toxic their sub got whenever they lost, and they mentioned people crying “toxic positivity” (lol at that being a complaint in a sports sub where literally we sit on our ass and be entertained) when people call them on their being excessively negative. emphasis on excessive; the ones who scream they cannot say negative things when regulars are here being reasonably negative, god those people are annoying.

not saying “don’t win” because that would suck lmao but not a lot of toxic complaining. Just regular ol’ “wow we suck and our team is poop oh well” and it was kinda nicer in a way.

also toxic stupidity, there was some of that but not a lot

10

u/sabat 39 Krukow Oct 05 '22

This is the baseball kid in me talking, the kid who won Giants tickets in a contest for his paper route, and got to go to the Stick to see his beloved Willie McCovey in person (IIRC he had just come back after bouncing around a few other teams). This is the kid who always wanted to talk about the Giants with his friends, even though he didn't always feel like he knew what he was talking about, completely. It didn't matter; a little bravado filled in for missing knowledge. (Knowledge was harder to come by back then.)

In my mind, the Giants have two modes: they're either an outstanding and different team, setting records, proving the doubters wrong, and winning championships, or they're ramping up to become that team again.

You cannot talk me out of that mindset. I got into it a long time ago and it's too late to talk reason into me.

So yeah, this was a good season, in the sense that we're ramping up again. The next time we start having huge seasons again, it's going to be epic. The air will feel different. Everyone wearing Giants shirts will have stupid smiles on their faces. I will be here for it.

Y'all, I don't even know what to say. This season has been...not quite a roller coaster 'cause the highs haven't been that high. A kiddie roller coaster? A tilt-a-whirl? I dunno.

Anyway, I'm so happy to have spent this season with y'all. The games didn't go the way we wanted and I'm definitely looking for some big moves in the off-season, but y'all made it a super fun time regardless. (Even if I fell asleep in the seventh inning...a lot......)

Fingers crossed that next season I'll be settled into the Pacific time zone with (most of) you <3

9

u/dmmdoublem 51 Lowry Oct 05 '22

My rooting interests for the postseason:

AL: SEA > TB > TOR > CLE > HOU > NYY

NL: NYM > PHI > ATL > SD > STL > Rob Manfred cancelling the World Series and awarding the Piece of Metal to himself > LAD

Admittedly, there's not much separating HOU and NYY. Honestly, Dusty alone probably gave the Astros a slight edge. On the NL side, there's a pretty big gap/drop-off after the Mets.

Day baseball in San Diego for the last game of the year. I’m ready to soak in the last of Kruk and Kuip, Miller and Flem. Win or lose, those guys make watching and listening always worth it and enjoyable. I’m looking forward to watching the playoffs but I miss our Giants already. Thank you to this community for listening to me bitch, arguing with me, commiserating and cheering with me all season. Much love.

7

u/sabat 39 Krukow Oct 05 '22

I often wish there was some way they could cover the postseason games, even if the Giants aren't in it.

although villar doesn't have high exit velos (for a power hitter), the one thing that a lot of people remarked on is that he consistently barreled balls in the minors at ideal launch angles which allows him to get the most out of what he has

Well. It's happening.

Last day of the season with a neutral .500 record on the line.

I've enjoyed the season overall, despite the lack of post season. Regardless, still a lot of fun memories.

The Hader walk off is probably my favorite ending to a game, and Bart's development journey is my favorite long term story that is luckily still in development. Can't wait for some 2023 memories!

Cmon let’s finish at exactly .500 since that would be the best summary of the team

And also because then the padres fans can brag less about getting revenge because a few of our fans threw something at profar once or because our first base coach felt racially slighted and decided to speak up about it. Because those are two things I just saw that irk me lol (like dude?? You still remember those??)

I’ll miss getting mad at tepid takes on other subs or websites after today

Such a wild season for the Giants with some awesome moments. Still love this team and baseball as a whole was exciting with Pujols and Judge having historic seasons. Would have never thought we’d miss the playoffs this year, especially with an extra wild card spot, but still should be an exciting postseason to watch.

Always sad when a season comes to an end, and despite the Giants struggles, I enjoyed these threads this year (more than the 49ers GDT, even though Monday night because they were winning was nice). There were good memories, and just nice times had. It's kind of bittersweet in that the season is over, but in two days a new season for a sport I follow very closely begins. Still, I think I'm more excited about the Giants offseason than the playoffs themselves. In terms of who I want to see succeed in this playoffs, I think it's basically Seattle or Bust for me. I loved the Seattle celebration and just getting the monkey off the back. I guess for the National League, my friend is a Padres fan so I can root for them. There really isn't anyone else I want to see win it all.

Giants gave away a clear plastic bag last week as a SGA specifically for bringing things into the ballpark. Padres won't let me bring it in. So I have to hike back to my hotel leave it at the desk and I come back in and there's like a million backpacks walking around. I hate the Padres. Nice ballpark but shit rules.

8

u/sfan27 51 JH Lee Oct 05 '22

Whenever a security guard turns you away for something that might be allowed, just walk to another entrance and see what happens. Oftentimes it's a security guard who is either dumb or has a stick up their bum.
