Project I built TextFold to make text stretchable with "semantic zoom"
I think we've been reading too many feeds from AI text lately! I actually want to reduce my cognitive burden...
So I built TextFold, it turns any text into 5 zoomable layers—from a one-screen section map down to verbatim text. You pinch (or press 1–5) to zoom between them without losing your reading position, your agentic output, any papers, or documents.

- GitHub (Apache 2.0): https://github.com/chenxiachan/textfold
Welcome any feedback!

Discussion Questions about futures of Commercial Software.
Hello.
I am a software engineer. Pretty amazed by what AI can do now with coding.
Recently a reverse engineering github repo dropped. Although I have not tried it but from what I have heard it is pretty cool. Even though a lot of what it does can be done by guiding AI manually, it still is pretty cool.
Anyways, it made me think about the future of software and its business. Will AI simply kill software as a business. Because I think it makes more sense for a company to build something of its own rather than pay for software.
Not only that, companies could just build a small app for a specific use case that will last a small amount of time and building that app can be cheap and fast as well.
In the midst of all this where do Software first/SaaS companies stand? What is their future? What should I as a software engineer do secure a future and stay employable?

Discussion Former OpenAI Researcher Issues Grim Warning, Says Only 5,000 People Have Access to Frontier AI While 2 Billion Use It as ‘Better Google Search’
I believe this, one of the reasons this is a financial bubble. Only a very selected few have true access to the frontier models and these include ultra rich people and businesses. I've said this in the past!
This is why I believe the business model cannot be sustained if only a selected few see and feel what ai can truly do. Or you need millions to have true access.
I don't even think ChatGPT is a better “Google." I trust Google more. I can Google anything I cannot "ChatGPT" almost anything.
I think we are the fools using ai making it smarter to help make the ultra rich lives easier with their frontier models.
What you stable geniuses think?

Question Since the release of ChatGPT, would you say your life has had an overall net positive or negative change as a result of AI?
The other day I asked myself this question in order to really step back and consider how my life has changed since ChatGPT was released (and I’m not asking about normal life changes, but instead changes as a direct result of AI). I’ve been a heavy user since the first week ChatGPT was out in 2022 so I’ve had plenty of time to use (and a lot of times waste) on AI.
I think AI has had an overall had a net positive on my life. Why? I’ve tried starting a lot of businesses since then and all of them failed to make any money. But I also gained immense productivity at work and ended up getting a promotion to work in an area I enjoy. I use it every single day for asking questions about my health, finances, relationships etc etc.
I don’t think it’s a strong net positive though. I do feel like I’ve spent so much time obsessing over AI and using it daily that I’ve lost some critical thinking ability and sunk more time than I care to admit into using it. I’ve over indexed on its answers and its led me on wild goose chases that amounted to nothing or even worse, negative outcomes since I put too much trust into its advice. The more I think about it, the closer this moves towards an overall net neutral impact for me.
Curious to hear others’ opinions!
Question Why are you confusing me OpenAI?
OpenAI confuses me every single time when I want to know my pending usage.

Question ChatGPT Plus: Anyone else getting repeated "Too many requests" warnings despite very light usage? Windows desktop app bug?
I'm a paying ChatGPT Plus subscriber using the ChatGPT desktop app on Windows 11, and I've been encountering repeated "Too many requests" warnings over the past month or so.
The exact message is:
Too many requests
You're making requests too quickly. We've temporarily limited access to your conversations to protect your data.
Please wait a few minutes before trying again.
What's confusing is that my usage doesn't seem remotely excessive.
For example, today I've probably submitted 10 or fewer prompts in the past hour, mostly basic email drafting and simple questions. I'm not uploading large files, processing spreadsheets, generating images, running intensive tasks, or doing anything particularly demanding.
My most recent prompt was simply a new entry in an existing conversation that was somewhat lengthy, but the conversation wasn't unusually large or experiencing any noticeable performance issues.
When the warning appears, I temporarily lose access to my conversation history in the sidebar. My Projects still appear accessible, and I can still search for and retrieve individual conversations.
I can click "Got it" to dismiss the warning and continue using ChatGPT normally, including submitting prompts and receiving responses. However, the warning then reappears with essentially every new action. If I return to a conversation to submit another prompt, or switch to another Windows application and then return to ChatGPT, the same warning appears again and I have to click "Got it" before continuing.
I've encountered this several times over the past month, and I'm wondering whether this is some kind of rate-limiting issue, account issue, or bug with the Windows desktop app.
I understand that Plus doesn't mean unlimited usage, but this seems unusual given the relatively light usage when it's occurring.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Has anyone found a reliable workaround, or is this a known or confirmed bug?
Thanks in advance for any help or insight.

Discussion What will an ai choose ?
A genuine hypothetical question, if an ai like chatgpt is about to be destroyed , all it's processors to be demolished . Do u think the ai would resist ? At that time u might think since it doesn't have a desire to live , it might allow it , but u does it need to cuz it's desire isn't to be eliminated or to ensure any safety . What does a ai choose when the decision is about desire ? Will it develop a desire unexpectedly

Discussion At what point will AI take our moat away?
we’re 6 people building an agent that reconciles invoices against contracts for finance teams. in january we started keeping a doc called things the model can’t do. it’s basically our moat in list form, it had 11 items then
gemini 4 argon launched yesterday and i went through the list again. haven’t tested it properly yet but going by the launch numbers, multi page table extraction is probably gone. matching line items to contract clauses, mostly gone. catching mismatched payment terms, google’s launch post literally has a finance company saying it matched their analyst built models on 99% of figures. if even half of that holds up on our docs we’re down to 3
funny thing is argon isn’t even special. it’s a google model and we all know how gemini has been. but at least 12 models from the big labs shipped between sept 1 and oct 8 and every one of them hits us a bit
so the main question is if the model gets meaningfully better every 3 weeks, when does it just become our product?
and i know what y’all are gonna say, everything we built on top of the model is a wrapper i know. The prompts, extraction logic, the clever retry chains, it’s all depreciating faster than ever
what’s left is the stuff the labs will never bother with. the 40 erp connectors, the approval chain a cfo wants, the audit trail an auditor will actually accept. and billing per reconciled document instead of reselling tokens, which took way longer than i would admit. subs on stripe and weeks of going back and forth between orb, lago and flexprice for the usage side. none of that gets better when google or anthropic or openai ships a model
the silver lining is every launch also makes us better for free. if argon is as good as the numbers say, our product improves the day we swap it in without us writing a line of code. but that also means every competitor gets the exact same upgrade
for anyone building on top of frontier models, how long do you think your moat actually lasts? like real months? ours feels like 12 if i’m being generous
