UNSOLVED A book fantasy i read around 2017-2020

From what I remember there was a female protagonist who in one of the books had her back tattooed with 2 dragon wings to symbolise her freedom. There may have been a character that lost an eye and struggled with judging distance, i however can’t recall if he was a major one or not. The book followed a large medieval conflict and probably had dragons in it. That’s all i can remember, i would really appreciate your help on this. I randomly remembered this at 1 in the morning a d have been braking my head over it for an hour😅

UNSOLVED Snow White kids book

Hey! Super random, but I was wondering if anyone can work out the book I’m talking about? It must’ve been the early 2010s, but the book maybe been second hand and therefor older. I remember it telling the story of Snow White. Specifically I remember it including her getting tricked by the combs and also the cursed corset ribbons (I remember there being an illustration of the combs and the ribbons). I think it was a watercolour style illustration book. It might’ve had other fairytales in but I can’t be 100% certain.

UNSOLVED Scifi book with a sun in the background and 2 people in suits in the foreground

Hello all, a quick question for you. In my youth I remember reading a book that boiled down to a scientist/team of scientists achieve nuclear fusion, but it runs away from them and they need to stop it and it ends with a large area getting "glassed". I think the cover had a sun with 2 people in suits walking towards it. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could tell me the name of said book as I would love to reacquire it. Thank you :)

UNSOLVED Early 2000 Interactive Illustrated Children’s Book

From what I remember it was in muted colors possibly black and white. It had envelopes and some other interactive parts. I read it around 2010-2011 in elementary school. It was set in a mansion and it was a mystery book.

I have been searching for this book series for so long and I still can’t find it. I wish I remembered more.

UNSOLVED Children’s tactile monster book

I cant remember the name of this book for the life of me, it was one of those cardboard like books that have touch and feel sections. It was about a blue (potentially with horns) child monster who went to the park and got muddy, he goes home (what I believe is an apartment) where he has a bath.

I am very sure there’s pages where you can touch he’s tummy, and where you can feel the bubbles (I vividly remember the bubbles being kinda holographic) and the mud is bumpy cardboard. I read it either late 2000s - early 2010s. Any help would be amazing thank you!

SOLVED The fourth of fifth book in a YA series about a boarding school for girls with special abilities

I started reading this book back in March but then accidentally deleted it from my phone, and for some reason, I cannot for the life of me remember the title. Here are the things I do remember:

• It's either the fourth or fifth book in a YA series about a boarding school for girls with special abilities

• Each book in the series focuses on a specific girl in a group that attends the school, and the book I'm looking for focuses on a girl called Seraphina, Serafina, Seraphine, or Serafine (it's one of those names, but I can't remember which) whose special ability is something like being able to see other people's emotions as colors/patterns.

• One of the other girls in the group that the series focuses on is called either Georgia or Georgie

• The boarding school trains the girls to be spies, as I remember Seraphina/Serafina/Seraphine/Serafine talking in the first chapter about a mission in the previous book where one of the girls either went missing or was captured by an enemy

• The series' name might be "Mrs/Miss (Name)'s School for Gifted Girls/Talented Young Ladies" or something along those lines.

The series that the book I'm looking for is in is NOT:

• Serafina by Robert Beatty

• Seraphina by Rachel Hartman

• Finishing School by Gail Carriger

• The Network by Katie Cross

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

SOLVED 90s book about a guy who turns into a fly

Kinda just the title. It was a book about a losery kind of guy who discovered that he could turn into a fly and back at will. It was set in the 90s alt/punk/grunge scene, and at one point this guy gets a gf and turns into a fly and walks around on her boob. I think she decides to make a super hero alter ego for herself as well? That's all the details I can remember from 30 years ago, even though it was one of my favorite books at the time. Any ideas welcome, thanks friends!

SOLVED Fiction apocalypse audiobook

Not had luck other places, does anyone recognize this book? I listened to it on Spotify a handful of times and I thought I had it saved, apparently I do not.

Narrated by Will Wood, connected to Life In The World To Come but I don't recall how, it's like 4-5 chapters that are each very individual. One is a group of kids in a van, there's twins and siblings, they see a mushroom cloud and drive away from it, ending up in the desert. Another chapter is a lizard that's chasing a book and ends up discovering I guess the multiverse theory? Distinctly one chapter is a little kid playing pretend and summons an actual dragon

Those I'm certain are part of it. I believe one chapter was a liminal space Italian restaurant based loosely on an urban legend from some college kids (?).

If there is a better place to ask this please let me know! I've searched my listen history as much as I can, I've searched chats with friends bc I know I recommended it to quite a few people but I cannot for the life of me find the name anywhere

SOLVED YA nuclear war dystopia? Early 2010s Spoiler

Red cover, with black silhouette of aviator glasses on the front? Or maybe it was a mushroom cloud. Teen boy moves to a military base and makes friends with a Native American kid, and then realizes sometime later that his guardian is helping the government build a nuke? I think? I'm pretty sure it takes place in New Mexico but I could be wrong.

UNSOLVED Vampire YA romance novel that ends in the 14th century?

I know the title is so vague it’s insane but it’s the only part of the book I really remember! The main character was a vampire, and then had to return to her life in the 14th century to save her love right at the end. The cover was white and had thorns on it (much like every gothic romance novel in the 2010s!).

I remember the last chapter as he father summons her down to eat, and she responds with modern language and has to correct herself to speak as her original time period would’ve.

UNSOLVED Looking for a kids animal book from childhood

I had a book as a child that was full of animal facts.

It was split into two halves and spiral bound on both sides so you could flip each side separately. It had a yellow frame/border and I think a tiger and some other animals on the cover. I loved it and would like to get a copy to show my nieces and nephews but I haven't been able to find it online.

Any help would be appreciated!!

UNSOLVED Rabbit and Chicken

I have been looking for a book for years from about the 1980s about a bunny that had a chicken for a mother and was trying to find his place on the farm. He pretended to be a rooster gluing feathers to his tail, he tried to hatch"eggs" which were stones than when they didn't hatch he painted faces on them.

I remember the other mother hen's squawking 'Not a Chicken' quite a lot. All the time the mum reassuring him she loved him and at the end, he was an artist decorating stones and eggs like easter eggs.

The book had the most beautiful illustrations that I remember them vividly. He was a white bunny with a brown maybe black patch on one eye, and also some on his body.

If someone could help it'd be so greatly appreciated 🙏

UNSOLVED semi-recent short story about a family of prehistoric monkeys/neanderthals? Spoiler

A few years ago I attended a Creative Writing class where we reviewed a short story about a family of monkeys (or prehistoric monkey ancestor species?) told primarily from the pov of the mother and the eldest baby. The youngest baby was born 'different' and wasn't as good at swinging on vines, hiding from predators, things like that. The implication was that the baby monkey was kind of like evidence of evolution, or just about how its family couldn't comprehend its genetic differences.

I remember specifically that all of the monkeys had names like "ooo" and "aaa", but these meant something different for each of them, so each family member had their name origin story/explanation. It was extremely interesting the way the author used language and constructed the pov of the monkeys.

At the end of the story, I think one of the babies dies, but I can't remember. I know this story was at least published within the last ten years (probably??) because my professor knew the writer. Thanks so much for any and all help!! <3

SOLVED Time traveling twins

The title is a bit misleading, but the book is about a set of twins in a nigh-modern setting. It's a boy and a girl, the girl was thought to have died at a younger age in a lake. The family is different, the women born into the family can travel through times through points called nodes, I don't remember what makes them special, but no men have been born into the family until these twins. Everyone thinks the boy can't travel through time, including himself, but he later figures out he can do something related to time, but I can't quite remember what. The main protagonists are the mom, grandma, the son, and I believe an aunt maybe. The antagonist is a group of variously aged versions of the younger twin, and they find out about her when they sneak into one of her meetings, and someone glows, I think that's either how they get caught or something.

Thats basically all I remember about the book, idk if maybe I made it up in my head or if it's a real book, if it is I read it close to a decade ago, give or take a few years. Any help would be much appreciated.

UNSOLVED Novel or memoir about a boy raised in the desert by grandparents?

UNSOLVED Help me find a children's (?) murder mystery book - character with wrong coat gets murdered.

I have this short but fairly strong memory of reading a book around 4th grade (early 2000s) that could be/is likely much older as it was just in a classroom bookshelf.

Here's what I remember:

  • Several kids/teenagers are staying in a cabin during the winter
  • There is skiing involved
  • One of them doesn't make it back to the cabin (maybe several? a few?) and the characters are worried about them while sitting around inside the cabin. (?There is an active snow storm outside?)
  • At one point, there is a noise outside and several/all of the characters rush outside to go see if it is their friend. They are in such a hurry that they just grab whatever coat is closest to them.
  • And then one of the characters gets killed while they're out searching for their friend(s) just outside the cabin. No one sees who does it. Stabbed in the back I believe.
  • At the end we find out that the killer killed the wrong coat person on accident because they were wearing the coat of the intended victim.
  • Pretty sure the killer was part of the group

And that's it. I also vaguely remember someone dying from the cold and the storm, but I might be just remembering one of the characters supposing that it happened.

SOLVED Early 2000s graphic novel about a loch full of eels that turn you into a monster

More or less as described above. I have no recollection of what the title was, but when I was in primary school I picked up a big hefty graphic novel in the library. I have very vivid memories of panels of a winch pulling bodies out of a lake, and they were filled with these horrible green eels. Later panels of what I think were boars, and also people, twisted into green monstrous creatures by the eels in the lake. I think maybe they were in a facility of some kind? Like the lake, or the eels therein, were being experimented on. Maybe panels of people in tubes, full of green water and eels, also? There was a very heavy green aesthetic, I know that much. I think as a child I assumed it might have been Loch Ness, but that could have been just where my mind went. I also have a gut feeling it might have been published by Image Comics, if that helps?

Honestly, I had Memory Holed most of this, until about an hour ago. I just rewatched the movie A Cure For Wellness, and that has a lot of focus on eels with supernatural qualities, and human experimentation with them. Feels connected. Like I'm right on the edge of a break-through.

If anyone knows anything relating to this, you'd be answering a well-over-a-decade old question of mine.

Cheers!

UNSOLVED Book with a forest and another world and two main characters who meet up in this other world.

I know, that's so vague and yet sounds like every other book being searched for. But I've been trying for years to find this book and I'm losing my mind so I'm here out of desperation. Of course I can't remember the title or the author, but here's what I do remember:

I read this between 1998-2001, so it was obviously written before 2002.

I'm pretty sure it's told from the POV of a girl, but it might switch between her and the boy. They both visit a forest of some kind that might be another world. There's an age switch somewhere, like either they're adults in the real world and become kids in the other world, or vice versa.

They fall in love in the other world but I think don't remember each other in our world.

I'm pretty sure the boy is important to the forest/other world, like they have to save it from some evil thing (my brain tells me there was a fire or the forest was on fire at some point) and maybe the boy is central to that.

There was some sort of guide or creature in the other world that they befriend. Either he helps them save the world or he dies during the attempt, I can't remember. But he was friendly.

I feel like there were multiple trips to this world, not just one. I have a vague recollection of the girl trying to find the boy when she visits. And maybe even at one point he isn't there.

I think there's some kind of age progression because I remember them kissing and possibly more. It's vague. But for sure she was in love with him.

It's possible they couldn't go back at some point, either they aged out of the place or saved the place and that sealed them out.

The end of the book takes place in the real world, they're both adults. They might both have forgotten each other, but she sees his face or a picture on the news (or in a newspaper) because (I think?) he was in a car crash of some kind. She remembers him and everything else. She goes to the hospital and he doesn't remember her. He might even have had a family and been married to someone else. What I recall is that she doesn't tell him about it, she just lets him go but maybe after they talk as strangers (at least in his mind) at the hospital. The ending had me crying for days because she had to let him go.

I could be wrong about this, but I think his name was Danny. Hers might've been Allison (or Alison or Alyson).

I also think the title was maybe just one word and the author was female. Again, don't quote me on that.

If any of this sounds familiar, PLEASE tell me. Thank you.

EDIT: It MIGHT be Hexwood, and I might've mixed that book with The Time Traveler's Wife in my mind. Once I receive my copy of Hexwood and find out for sure, I'll update here. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions!

UNSOLVED Dinosaur book that was a fake journal, and rounded corners.

Hey all!

I'm trying to find a paperback dinosaur book I owned as a kid, probably sometime between 2010 and 2014. I attended elementary school in Marietta, Georgia, and I believe I may have gotten it from a Scholastic Book Fair, although I'm not 100% sure.

Here's everything I remember:

It was a small book, roughly the size of a little notebook or journal, around 5 by 7 inches. It was a normal paperback book, and not spiral-bound. One of the most distinctive things I remember is that the corners of the book were ROUNDED instead of pointed.

I remember the cover being predominantly green, with jungle as the background. There was a large, realistic-looking brown T. rex head roaring on the front. The head took up most of the cover. The T. rex looked like older CGI or possibly a realistic rubber dinosaur model. I remember the pages being designed almost like a field journal, with handwritten-looking notes, facts, and pictures that looked taped or pasted onto the pages.

The book could have been published before 2010, since I know Scholastic fairs sometimes sold older books. I've searched through dozens of dinosaur books and haven't found it. It is NOT Jurassic Survival Guide by Heather Dakota, although I did own that book around the same time.

I'm particularly hoping someone recognizes the combination of the rounded corners, green cover, and distinctive T. rex head.

Does anyone remember a dinosaur book like this?

UNSOLVED AirBnB Romance from 2020-2025

I read this book in the last couple of years and would like to read it again but I cannot remember the title or author.

It’s a romance / women’s fiction story where the woman rents an AirBnB that the homeowner’s son advertised for rent without the homeowner’s knowledge. She lives in the apartment above the barn/garage space and the man lives in the main house with his teenage son. He doesn’t want her there but through circumstance he relents. It’s set in the mountains and she’s looking for something and he’s some kind of law enforcement / rescue person. I believe someone in the story is a musician and the teenager is planning on using the AirBnB money to take a trip or buy a guitar.
