Dude, like how do you get rid of it without getting bit? It will 100% have a vendetta for you. It's so mad that it's wheezing like a pug lol.

u/blastoffbro 4h ago

Fuck why did I unmute

82

u/MoonGrog 4h ago

Idk why I unmuted after reading your comment. That thing is an eldritch horror

34

u/lololollieki 3h ago

It’s the equivalent of being told not to look at an accident on the road.

10

u/trippy_grapes 1h ago

In the poor guys defense, if I was picked up by a giant I'd probably be shrieking like a banshee, too.

2

u/MoonGrog 1h ago

Agreed. I would be pissed off!

3

u/slightlee_sleepee 3h ago

I just sounds like rubber rubbing against something?

1

u/Xalrons1 2h ago

I thought that horrific thing was a plastic toy. Ewww

1

u/Fluffy-Koalas 1h ago

same 😰

1

u/ClearChampionship591 2h ago

You are still like many times larger than this insect, as far as we know, the human is its eldritch horror. The thing is terrified, and no bug really wants to be around you.

43

u/polly-esther 4h ago

I did because I saw your comment, now I don’t want to go outside anymore . I’m 99% they don’t even live in my country but still they’re out there making that noise.

3

u/Adorable-Ad1556 2h ago

Me too! Holy shit, that is terrifying

15

u/kourtnie 2h ago

unmute Aaaaand that’s the nightmare I’m having tonight

12

u/MoonGrog 3h ago

My condolences

3

u/Prior_Internal7728 3h ago

Welp I better not take a melatonin tonight or I’m sure that’ll be my sleep paralysis demon.

0

u/MoonGrog 3h ago

2

You are missing out on an experience

1

u/No_Trade3571 2h ago

I’ll take your word for it.

1

u/chillvegan420 3h ago

Every day we stray further from the light

1

u/AFocusedCynic 1h ago

Ok screw you! I only unmuted after reading your comment!!

1

u/12ealdeal 1h ago

I hate that I had earbuds in when it played.

1

u/Mangerunebanane 1h ago

I first watched on mute and thought to myself. “Aww cool!!!” Then I watched again with volume after reading your comment and becoming curious…

Nah dawg. FAWK that!

1

u/newideal17 36m ago

Same, same. Thanks for verbalizing it!

1

u/Unique-Director-1177 3h ago

Thanks for the warning bro

98

u/zorbinthorium 4h ago

That wheezing noise is called stridulating, when body parts are rubbed together to make a noise

46

u/whyisitallsotoxic 4h ago

Since those are just his plates rubbing together, if you oiled him up like a suit of armor, would he then not be able to produce that noise?

39

u/zorbinthorium 4h ago

Theoretically I would think so. Probably wouldn't be great for the insect since they breathe passively through holes in their exoskeleton and I'd imagine most lubricants would not agree with their insides

46

u/Xentonian 3h ago

Drowning a beetle in WD40 so it is less squeaky is not the concept I thought I would read today.

3

u/Lone-raver 2h ago

Yeah that’s be fucked up. Idk how I became this guy but o constantly get mocked for my unwillingness to kill spiders and bugs. I sorta annoying.

1

u/femmefatalx 31m ago

I really don’t like bugs and spiders but I refuse to kill them too. I used to not care, but the older I get the more I feel that I don’t have any right to end their lives and feel really bad if someone else’s does or there’s no other option.

1

u/panda_sauce 1h ago

Starship Troopers would have had it so much easier if they just went around spraying lubricant.

-1

u/Sigihil 2h ago

I actually have a video saved to my phone where a dude does exactly that with a cricket

1

u/Pristine-Setting-836 1h ago

Ive seen that too and poor lil dude looked like he was freakin tf out😭

15

u/Kermit_the_hog 4h ago

Yeah that would clog his little spiracles!

9

u/HendrixHazeWays 3h ago

"This clogs the crab"

3

u/ExhibitBCT 3h ago

Some oils are used for insect control specifically because of those holes (spiracles) because they clog the holes and suffocate them

1

u/IKnowYouAreButWhtAmI 1h ago

People oiled their suits of armor?

2

u/Saikotsu 2h ago

Interesting. I was wondering how it was making that cool noise. Such a neat creature.

1

u/zorbinthorium 45m ago

Yep, it's the sound of the plates on its neck, to be specific. That's why it's synced with its head bobbing. Exactly like a squeaky hinge

1

u/Nice-Traffic4485 3h ago

Is the noise intentional, or a biproduct? Like, do these beetles use that noise for communication?

1

u/zorbinthorium 48m ago

Started off as a natural byproduct and evolved overtime into something that can be used with intention as a means of communicating

Crickets chirping is the same mechanism, just a different part of their body

1

u/Dr_Malignant 2h ago

does it stridulate when it wants to kill

1

u/karenskygreen 1h ago

Thats goodnto know my rubbing body parts together is strindulating. What about when you rub your body part with someone elses body part ?.whats that sound called ?

17

u/athomesuperstar 4h ago

I don’t think dude is bothered. He picked up it up and is just casually holding it to the point that I realize how pampered my life is.

5

u/Glum-Ad7761 3h ago

Until he goes all Steve Irwin on it and says something like “hold on… im gomna jam my finger up its butt… WHOA, man this is pissed off now that i jammed my finger up it’s butt!!”

1

u/[deleted] 3h ago

[deleted]

3

u/XDSHENANNIGANZ 2h ago

I think it's a reference to the South Park parodies that they would make of Steve Irwin.

https://youtu.be/fynWOio9jBo?is=-DLJANxd0EG27Hn8

1

u/Glum-Ad7761 2h ago

I was parodying Irwin, of course, but it seemed like he was always pissing off whatever creature he was examining at the time…

1

u/AsssHat999 2h ago

I know that reference

16

u/ElegantEchoes 4h ago

You have to pass a roll to charm it. As far as I know that's the only way to get rid of it without getting bit and taking damage.

It's a high level bug though so good luck. It's also actively shit talking the person in the video so the odds aren't great.

3

u/CharlieMoonMan 4h ago

Its a DC 18 animal handling check at minimum

1

u/daishinjag 3h ago

CR 20 creature.

2

u/Immediate-Song6861 2h ago

LOGIC - (easy: failed)

Maybe not grabbing the screaming nail cutter wasn't that great of an idea

1

u/Throwawayidjsbdu2 2h ago

Seeing your dealer in public

15

u/legacyironbladeworks 4h ago

Easiest way to put down an insect like this is to let it grab something with its legs and just back away. Works for most things that don’t fly well. Usually they won’t come after you… usually…

8

u/Double_Belt2331 3h ago

Like the 2” tree roach that is 3” & sitting on your shoulder? That you caught site of in your peripheral vision when you were on the phone & had a white tshirt on? That you screamed so loud & accidentally hung up & didn’t answer again, that the person you were talking to called 911 bc you had a stalker who was threatening you? Then the cops showed up. And you’d gotten a warning for driving fast (or DUI, bc you failed the test & he was alone & didn’t feel like waiting for backup bc the car would have to be towed)earlier in the night. & they saw it & said “you’ve been seeing a lot of us tonight.” But the cop was cool (finally, after you begged him) & used his cowboy boot to kill it in the corner.

Easier than that?

8

u/legacyironbladeworks 3h ago

Yes. Significantly fewer law enforcement officers and fatalities of all kinds. When they are on a shirt it’s tricky bc they have claws and grip tighter as a reflex…

7

u/liketearsinthereign 3h ago

Let me just tell you something I discovered about this horrible creature, my arch nemesis. I hate those tree roaches so much that when I was dating my husband and saw one in the house, I sprayed a circle of Raid around myself and sat on the coffee table in order to be able to watch the rest of our movie. It had already killed, but I thought he might have friends. I was panicked the entire time.

And then...

Years later I saw another one crawling up the wall and literally screamed as loud as my lungs would allow. It literally jumped at my scream, clearly startled, and tried running away from me. It was then I realized this was the way.

Scream at those mfs. It works.

1

u/lcl0706 42m ago

Oh my god I brought one home accidentally after a camping trip. I was a teenager and dumped my bag on the floor like a lazy teen does and my poor unfortunate mother became the one to open it up and try to add my clothes to the washer. The scream she scrumpt.

4

u/XANDERtheSHEEPDOG 3h ago

Oddly specific

2

u/engoac 3h ago

Wake up babe, new copypasta just dropped

2

u/Westlandkunst 1h ago

Dit is wel heel specifiek.

1

u/stevencastle 2h ago

They mostly come out at night.... mostly...

2

u/ozire7 3h ago

Oh nooo, the video has sound

2

u/Express_Let_2892 3h ago

wtf bro I was not ready for that

2

u/Icy_Introduction8813 3h ago

That thing is scared, like another comment said, just stop harassing nature, please leave the bugs alone :/

2

u/Nice-Traffic4485 3h ago

umm...can bugs wheeze? Don't they breathe through tubules on their sides, not lungs? How does a bug wheeze?!

3

u/69Bits 3h ago

Some bugs can make noise with vibrations on their body, like hissing cockroach.

There are some caterpillars which are actually kinda cute and make a dog squeaky toy noise.

1

u/Nice-Traffic4485 3h ago

Oh I get that but...I feel that wheezing is a specific thing when you have trouble breathing

2

u/69Bits 3h ago

OH right, I think they just mean it sounds like a wheeze, not that the mechanics behind it are the same as human wheezing.

If your first comment was a joke then I'm sorry I have negative ability to understand sarcasm from text alone without intonations

2

u/3xlduck 3h ago

OP better shakeout his pillow tonight

2

u/VonMarrow 2h ago

Its easy, they cant bend their head backwards or sidewards.

Heres me holding one

2

u/Minja78 1h ago

I feel bad for the bug.

2

u/dev_ating 1h ago

you too would be mad if you were picked up like that

1

u/ManateeNipples 3h ago

My 4lb chihuahua is raging through my house trying to find lol

1

u/Pie_and_Ice-Cream 3h ago

I like it, weirdly.

1

u/TheHyborn 3h ago

The noises are from OP

1

u/CoffeeMugs- 3h ago

theyre kind :( they have a strong bite but its bc they make their home in wood. the noise its making supposed to sound scary on purpose its called stridulation and its basically a creaky joint

1

u/DarknMean 3h ago

Just yoink it in the carapace it can’t turn its mandibles on you.

1

u/Any_Commission7084 3h ago

Thank you. I unmuted it whilst in the passenger seat and it blasted through my car speaker, horrifying my unsuspecting husband 😂

1

u/HamSlammer87 2h ago

Ita alive?? I thought it was a shitty Halloween animatronic.

1

u/Fisher_mom 2h ago

Holy shit it makes sounds?!?! Nah, gonna take your word for it.

1

u/Stewart_Games 2h ago

I feel bad for it free that poor little guy your squeezing him and he doesn't like it.

1

u/panda_sauce 1h ago

As a pug owner... Aww, that's kind of cute. Now I sort of want one.

1

u/chief-w 1h ago

Fun fact: insects breath though their exoskeleton, not through mouth.

Those noises are from him moving the head up and down and rubbing the playing of his exoskeleton against itself in a show of either fear or aggression.

Source: trust me bro

1

u/Loud-Vacation-5691 1h ago

It's not wheezing. Insects don't breathe through their mouths, they aspirate through their carapace. Any sound an insect makes will usually be from rubbing one part against another.

1

u/Codythensaguy 20m ago

Gasoline and a match

0

u/frank_da_tank99 4h ago

I'm pretty sure this particular one isn't real, it looks like a toy doesn't it? Its moving its head and legs perfectly in sync and its neck looks like it has a plastic joint. Plus its head looks like it has a seam down the middle of it.

Edit: plus it looks like there's a red led in the eyes, this is, like, a battery operated Halloween decoration or something surely
