In NV, our nightmares are named “potato bugs.” A very mild sounding name for an over 3 inch long predator looking creature with the face of horrors

Lived here my whole life and thankfully have never seen one in person!

I almost burnt the house down after I lost sight of one in my living room.

Potato Bug or also known as a Jerusalem Cricket. They live underground generally and eat plant matter, hence the name potato bug. Personally, I experienced my first in July of this year when I moved close to the military base Area 51. I’m convinced they escaped some test lab because they’re very “out of this world” to me. Like you cannot tell me someone didn’t engineer that face!!

Edit to add: they grow up to 3 inches. And they’re THICK

Sounds logical. We see more mormon crickets in my area. They are so thick that the road gets slippery.
