New, what is it? What is this?

Post image

It was the size of my palm and pretty circular. I’m in SW Missouri. I feel like it’s a silly simple answer but I don’t think I’ve seen anything like this before.
Thanks everyone!

Hedge apple or osage. Folks put them in the house to ward off spiders

I call them spider balls, lol.

(Yes, I am aware they don't actually keep spiders away.)

Not great. Spiders are not usually afraid of fruit.

You can toss them in the leaves this time of year and it keeps the box elders away

If it worked I think there would be hedge Apple products being sold at ridiculous prices

Gotta watch out putting them in your house. After a few days you will be walking around going "What's that smell???". Took me a while to figure out it was the friggin osage orange.

They're for throwing at your siblings.

This. Had a cottage in Michigan years ago and used to pick Osage oranges, cut ‘em in half and put the halves in pie tins in the corners of the cottage to keep spiders away…

We used them in our basement, but I think we were told it was for cockroaches.

I used to like to play Midwest Fruit Ninja with a machete with them
