When my family moved to the Orlando area, it was great. We could watch liftoff on tv, wait about 30 sec to a minute, and then be able to see it from our driveway.
We drove over to Cocoa for one of the last night launches of the shuttle program, but it got scrapped due to weather 30 min out and I was super disappointed. A few months later, I get called to the office at my high school, and my mom was there to pull me out of class and go see the launch that day. Being able to feel the power of those rockets is one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had.
We're you able to get on site? My family and I were on vacation in 92, around Christmas. Staying in Tampa area, heard about a launch next morning. We drove over to Canaveral to see it, but had no idea you needed arrangements to get up close. It was still pretty cool from the hiway nearby. A good memory for our family.
