I'mma be honest, every game that has the ability to auto-complete QTEs I turn that shit on immediately.

Auto complete QTE and button taps to hold are my first go to changes, followed by disabling chromatic aberration and vignetting

The one that drives me the most crazy is "stick bashing."

Nintendo is most guilty of wanting you to do it in games, but it appears in things like Dave the Diver, too.

Look, it's not a fun mechanic, and it actively destroys control sticks.

If we have "hold to tap," we also need a mechanic that gets rid of "furiously jam your control stick in random directions" or "spin it like a psycho," as well.

Honestly some QTEs are great but like nothing is worse than knowing by the second QTE "Oh this is bad qte :("

I remember when I was really, really sweating in Warzone (during the pandemic), slide-cancelling would really fuck my sticks up, lol.

Nowadays I'm very careful with my controllers. I learned my lesson. ๐Ÿ˜‚

yeah qteโ€™s fucking suck as a game mechanic in general

I tolerate them if failing them does anything. It usually does in Like a Dragon cinematic moments and it's pretty funny (and actually failable)

infamous had funny ones

God of war did it well. The og ones. You miss a button you die lol

Same. Like itโ€™s literally just a cutscene that for some reason requires me to press a single extra button,

E33, these attack qtes were so pointless

Don't forget button mashing. Genuinely FUCK button mashing. I've finished "A way out" 9 times and lost all 9 ๐Ÿ˜ญ.

I'd rather companies stop putting QTEs in at all. They can be cool if there's major consequences or special animations to losing them, but if the worst that happens is you lose some HP I'd rather not have them at all.

Only one with good ones is RE4 anyway.

Even those sucked.

some of the only times they work since it's used as a storytelling device more than not

1

u/dungleploop Sep 10 '26

some of the worst ones

some of the best ones would be Shenmue or a game like Until Dawn

0

u/Therealskitch Sep 10 '26

God of war trilogy too

u/dungleploop Sep 10 '26

yeah, I don't see the issue

u/AssCrackBanditHunter Sep 10 '26

Don't lie and act like they're QTEs if they're not lol.

If you're gonna make a QTE, you need to have something actually happen if I fail to do it, be that taking some damage, failing to do extra damage to the enemy, or, the holy grail, a hilarious game over screen.

u/MotherPerk Sep 10 '26

Nothing is worse than failing Bayonettas qte and watching the same cutscene 10 times

5

u/Red_Juice_ Sep 10 '26

Because what's the point of including them if it doesn't matter what you do just make it a cutscene
