its crazy to me how the single player game super hero formula hasn't evolved since batman arkham asylum in 2009, and that's literally still the peak of the formula in my opinion. when i played spiderman I felt like it was worse arkham asylum, and I see the wolverine footage and it seems like the same shit again

Yep. I think same goes for a lot of open world games. Ubisoft popularized a format damn near 20 years ago and most (not all) open world titles follow it to a tee to this day.

True, allthough I feel there was a renaissance for open world games after BOTW released for more atmospheric exploration and less map cluttering and hand holding. Games like ghost of tsushima and elden ring or rdr2 for example. I wouldn't say ubisoft still are the peak of the open world genre, not even close lol, and in fact it's quite the opposite

Oh I don't think Ubisoft's design is peak at all in this day n age haha. I totally agree that games like RDR2 and Elden Ring are vastly superior but I do think there are many games that dabble within open worlds that copy Ubisoft's template. Maybe they'll expand a bit on them, such as in the case of Ghost of Tsushima (nothing against that game, fun combat and story but the open world was very much Ubi coded), but for the most part we still get the churn in titles like Hogwarts Legacy and Horizon Forbidden West.

Ubisoft isn't peak, but they've laid out a very simple template that others tend to follow or use as a foundation. Its popular.

Just bought RD2 last month and I’m having an absolute blast still. Just made it to Ch.6 and it still feels like I’ve barely scratched the surface.

I liked GoT a lot tho. I can definitely see what you mean about their open world format but it wasn’t that bad imo.

Yeah that's for sure and I agree.
