Don't sleep on Onimusha: Way of the Sword. That game is amazing!

For real, it’s easily the best game I’ve played this year

28

u/Cluelesswolfkin Sep 10 '26

Im drowning in games. I havent touched Pragmata but just finished Mortal shell 2 and alien firewteam elite 2 and bought onimusha yesterday and I got control later in the month and godzilla also... my poor wallet

u/Apostinggod Sep 10 '26

Just go through your backlog and save some money. These games aren't going anywhere.

3

u/Johncurtisreeve Sep 10 '26

They may even go on sale by the time you want to play it

2

u/Boxing_joshing111 Sep 11 '26

Emulators are so awesome now. F-zero gx with hd textures at 1440p is as rad as a game can get.

2

u/ssongshu Sep 10 '26

Exactly. I can’t imagine playing every single AAA game that comes out, but I guess some people just don’t care about their money.

Most hobbies are more expensive tbh

2

u/Ethifury Sep 11 '26

That’s what GameFly is good for. Rent games then send them back when you’re done.

u/Bandai_Namco_Rat Sep 11 '26

For real! Join team "playing 2-3 years old games" you benefit from sales removing 20-50% of the initial cost without having to deal with FOMO of new releases

1

u/iS-A-B-O-T-E-U-R Sep 12 '26

This is the way @ play games in your library first

4

u/HoIIowHunter Sep 10 '26

I stopped buying brand new games unless the plan is to play it immediately and I'm still working on my backlog. Buuut that backlog is no longer growing.

Now days, unless a game I'm interested in goes on sale for stupidly cheap (like Black Friday), I simply just can't think of a reason for buying a game for the backlog, especially at full price.

Pragmata suffered some of the same downfalls imo. I have no idea how it was widely received, but it felt sterile and aimed at kids to me. A little more arcade-y than I like. YMMV.

1

u/RebelGuitarUnleashed Sep 10 '26

Highly recommend Pragmata. It made me cry.

I still think I prefer Nioh 3… but that game also disappointed me as I thought it was a step down from Nioh 2, still just love the Nioh games. Onimusha bosses are so surprisingly well made though. Way too many AAA games rely on attack indicators on what attacks you can dodge, parry etc, so it’s refreshing to see a developer move away from that and make the few attacks than need to be countered a certain way more natural.

Play Mortal Shell 2!

1

u/SwoleSpartan Sep 14 '26

It's good don't get me wrong. But u need to play more games

u/LFC9_41 Sep 10 '26

It’s great fun. Balancing isn’t great though.. regular enemies are too easy and kill animations slow pacing down. Bosses are significantly harder, by comparison anyways.

24

u/Iabhoryouu Sep 10 '26

Or Dawnwalker that game has probably been the most fun I’ve had in a very long time.

12

u/Alucard-VS-Artorias Sep 10 '26 edited Sep 11 '26

So far both Onimusha and Dawnwalker are my games of the year. If Control Resonance is as good as I hope it might be a trifecta.

4

u/nickrei3 Sep 10 '26

dawnwalker really needs a bit polish here and there. give it like 6 months it will be good witcher 3.5

Is that you gpt4?

1

u/Adziboy Sep 11 '26

Not sure why you got downvoted, their history shows they are a AI bot

2

u/Iabhoryouu Sep 10 '26

I’m really excited to get into Onimusha, but I must complete the others first, I’ve had them in my backlog for a while and I enjoyed the 15mins I did try with the first one.

For me Dawnwalker and First Light are GOTY worthy, both have me wanting to replay them straight away.

Control would be the icing on the cake, definitely considering picking that up over Wolverine now.

1

u/lcpm1992 Sep 11 '26

I absolutely loved Saros- just finished it last weekend and I was super hyped for Wolverine lining up perfectly. I cancelled my preorder yesterday and am between Dawnwalker and Onimusha while I wait for No Rest for the Wicked

2

u/Rb7198 Sep 11 '26

Dawnwalker is soooo good

1

u/AaDware Sep 10 '26

The game is aight, it's pretty much assassins creed with vampire powers but the combat gets incredibly repetitive once you get the hang of the parry.

1

u/michaelballston Sep 11 '26

Same I’ve gotten 5 hours of sleep the last week since I got it. It’s amazing

5

u/Total-Programmer-919 Sep 10 '26

Just finished it a few minutes ago must buy

7

u/Pharuin Sep 10 '26

I'm at 54% right now,! It is so good.

3

u/CASSIUS_AT_BEST Sep 10 '26

I’m not, I’m waiting for that sweet sweet Capcom sale.

2

u/ArmandoGalvez Sep 10 '26

Capcom dominated 2026 so far

2

u/my-honor-remains Sep 10 '26

if a damn physical copy would show up at stores in nyc i'd have gotten this days ago! might even double dip and get the ps5 version after getting the s2 version

2

u/J-Dizzle42 Sep 11 '26

It might be my game of the year. I was not expecting it to be as good as it is.

2

u/nohumanape Sep 11 '26

I don't plan on it. I'll play it eventually. Loved Pragmata, still wrapping up Mortal Shell 2, and then want to get through Control Resonant.

But I'd like to get to it soonish.

2

u/UtheDestroyer Sep 10 '26

I really want to get it but I’m thinking of this or Control Resonant

7

u/SadKazoo Sep 10 '26

Please support Remedy. They deserve it and Resonant is looking incredible.

2

u/Best_VDV_Diver Sep 10 '26

They really need it after the disaster that was Firebreak as well.

Hope Resonant works out for them.

2

u/CASSIUS_AT_BEST Sep 10 '26

Yeahhh, I was all in for supporting Firebreak until the so-so reviews. And then I got it for free, downloaded it, but never launched it. It just didn’t appeal to me at all despite the IP.

1

u/WeeklyPhilosopher346 Sep 10 '26

I wouldn’t if it weren’t $100CAD for the basic digital version.

1

u/antaylor0298 Sep 10 '26

I’m kind of lost with the story, but the gameplay is so damn good that I’m okay with being a little confused.

u/Alucard-VS-Artorias Sep 10 '26

Outside of the fact other Onimusha warriors existed, nah you'll be good.

1

u/psnGatzarn Sep 10 '26

The demo was incredibly satisfying but I honestly felt underwhelmed with the difficulty. It was less about learning enemies and more about stomping them, if that makes sense? Does it get difficult?

1

u/kidvid666 Sep 11 '26

So fucking good

1

u/Ok_Astronomer_6501 Sep 11 '26

The demo was really good, the only thing I'm disappointed in is that they pushed the release date ahead cuz it was releasing on my birthday at first lol

1

u/catdiscpalpita Sep 11 '26

Does he have his way with the sword?

1

u/mrderpflerp Sep 11 '26

Hell yes! Onimusha is my favorite game of the year tied with RE9! If GTA 6 wasn’t coming out I’d say it’d have a strong chance at GOTY.

1

u/CurrencyThis Sep 11 '26

I will play MF eventually, but with Wolverine about to come out, Dawn Walker already out, and GTA6 coming in November, I’ll get back to it later.

1

u/apieceajit Sep 10 '26

Onimusha, Mortal Shell 2, even Beast of Reincarnation (despite other negatives) looks to have better combat and exploration than this game. And Control Resonant is only two weeks away.

1

u/BIissful Sep 10 '26

This. The combat and boss fights are great

0

u/HiddenLeaforSand Sep 10 '26

Man, if the demo wasn’t so boring I could justify the price. Will get it on sale eventually
