isnt this a on rail game? wtf do you need a visual line for???

Need to remove literally every bit of friction ever, or someone who really should be watching movies instead of playing video games will leave a bad review.

Cause modern gamers literally can’t solve simple shit to save their lives.

Modern gamers made Elden Ring game of the year. There's no need for yellow paint, don't blame us

True, but even that had to become another open world with a smoother introduction and direction mechanic.

70% of the people that played Elden Ring as their first Souls would have dropped DS1 as soon as they got ganked in the graveyard.

Even Elden Ring was sanded down from the Dark Souls games.

Fair enough. I more mean the Gen Alpha gamers I guess. The TikTok brain gamers.

TikTok brain gamers aren't even playing these games. They're on F2P and their phones. I suppose this dumbing down of AAA games is an attempt to win them over somewhat.

Probably yea. Who knows. I’ve been over games holding your hands for years. Sometimes I can’t figure something out and I need a guide, that’s on me. But 98% of the time I want the freedom and control to solve it myself.

why are you looking for someone to blame?

1

u/Alternative_West_206 Sep 10 '26

Because there’s always SOMETHING that’s the cause. That’s how the world works. And the cause is a lot of people who can’t handle playing a game that doesn’t guide you every chance it can.

3

u/Thermocap Sep 10 '26

but should that matter in this case? looking for some vague connection to find out who's to blame for kickstarting "hand-holdy" game design instead of just deciding this game isn't worth it for you just feels like wasted energy

That does. If the game doesn’t need hand holding (as it’s linear) it’s stupid as hell to add that. And they only do that because of the TikTok brain people. For people who want to play a game that allows them to be challenged, this stuff isn’t it.

And if you don’t tell companies what you don’t like, they’ll keep doing what they’re doing. Companies look at reviews for this stuff, and the comments on YouTube videos probably too. If 50% of people are saying this seems stupid, they might actually do something different later.

i apologize if i sound argumentative, but arent both those mututally exclusive? its possible to direct critique towards companies and try to get them to course-correct without needing to also find a bad guy to put our frustrations on. i guess im just lost on the assumption that gamers with poor attention spans are entirely at fault.

1

I mean sure, I don’t disagree. And I can see finding someone as the scapegoat isn’t always the fault. I’m more meaning the reason behind it.

And the point I’m making is companies want more money, and so adding hand holding might attract people who have lower attention spans as it’ll guide them through. But this hurts gamers who actually want a real experience.

Can’t blame gamers, no one is asking for this. Look at Dawnwalker.

1

u/Alternative_West_206 Sep 10 '26

What about dawn walker?

5

u/Anonymous000789 Sep 10 '26

Dawnwalker is the complete opposite and doesn’t hold your hand at all, other than the prologue.

2

u/Alternative_West_206 Sep 10 '26

Oh gotcha. That’s nice to see. I just started dawn walker yesterday and I love games that don’t baby you constantly. That’s the most unappealing thing about modern games.

3

u/Anonymous000789 Sep 10 '26

I agree. It started to get old with GOWR and has gotten worse since. Dawnwalker is incredible tho. Loving every second of it.

You gotta be able to turn that off, right?

It's a linerar game, not on rails. On rails has a very specific meaning.
