It's not smart business practice to have exclusive games that are 2 years old and no longer being bought by the PS5 market, and not open them up to a new audience.
Which is why they'll release a PC PS Store front and have you sign in on Steam to a PSN account.
We all know Sony likes money and will release game later.
That would be a waste of money. Waste development resources on a storefront nobody is using and simultaneously gift 30% of your sales revenue to Valve.
They may want that, but I don’t think as many people are buying PS5 for their games as they used to. I have a PS5. Got it for Sony games. Astro Bot is the last game I was interested in. Third party games sell the PlayStation.
Third parties most definitely do. Most people who want a console think PlayStation. They use this device to play FIFA, Madden, Grand Theft Auto, etc. Sony exclusives are not why Sony is selling more consoles than Xbox.
I never said they didn’t. The mass population doesn’t buy the playstion for exclusives. They buy because it is what they are used to, they already have accounts, and the big third party games. Their exclusives sell ok, but not the amount you would think that the majority of people buy a PS5 for Sony made games. They are not Nintendo.
Cause outside of the 360, which they had a year head start, the Xbox sales have not come close to PlayStation. Most of the world doesn’t care about Xbox, it’s mostly the United States. Even with all the publishers under their belt currently, they can’t get sales. The PlayStation Brand since the PS1 and PS2 has been bigger and considered cooler. What got them there was a lot of Exclusives, but many of those were third party games.
I have consoles and sometimes use them, but I don’t buy games for them all that often anymore, unless there is crazy deep sale on Amazon that’s deeper than the equivalent sale on Steam.
Bought a ps5 for ff16, played it never touched the ps5 for anything else, sold it. I learned my lesson, I'm not buying a console for 1 game when I have a PC that can play a million better games.
Indie games are where it's at and steam has a great collection of indie games. I think streamers like Caseoh and others are attributing to this. Some of those indie games are more entertaining than full priced AAA experiences.
Ahh yes buy the console that runs like shit compared to my pc they must be smoking crack. Give me 4k 144hz on every single game without performance mode and I’ll consider it.
Which to me says that Xbox basically put them in a spot where they (Sony) could play nice with everyone else, or leave a ton of money on the table in a big and obvious way. Sony may be choosing the latter.
But is it smaller than the number of Playstations people will still not buy in spite of exclusives? I have a good PC and a depressingly large Steam backlog. They will be waiting for a long time before I buy a console.
It's small enough that it's not worth it to them to release on PC immediately, and they clearly don't care about those PC players buying a machine or not
Like 25% of Ragnarok's total sales came from Steam iirc. They make fuck all on the hardware and there's no guarantee people are buying PS+ subscriptions anyway. They're gonna reverse course.
Sony made 1.2 billion in five years from Steam. Their first party game sales on console make at least 3x that per year. Their Steam players are an extremely small minority that doesn’t make them enough profit to outweigh the strategy of keeping games exclusivity on PlayStation. Pulling away from Steam will only move their profit needle by a hair. It’s more worth it to them to maintain their “only on PlayStation” branding.
But now Sony makes 0 instead of 1.2 billion from Steam sales. You're making it sound like it cost hundreds of millions to have a team to port a game to PC. It didn't. Pulling from Steam will cost them money. End of story. People can defend the move all they want but it's horrible in the long run when Sony only releases like 2 first party exclusives a year and many studios burning money by doing nothing(Looking at you ND and Bungie) and all the 2nd and 3rd party games are releasing on Steam cutting into ecosystem as Sony now only offers those same 2 or 3 exclusives a year.
They don’t make money on the console sales themselves, no, but if people buy a console, they buy games for the console, and Sony makes a lot of money from that
between wanting to actually sell their consoles and the PC ports not selling that well anyway, i can see that it is the more financially profitable decision to stop making PC ports of their single-player games.
Problem is that if they do that thet lose out in console money. Consoles live or die on 2 factors. Their exclusives and their economic value. Generally consoles are the best value gaming machine you can get for a specific price. A PC for 500 wont be as good as a PS5 for example, so when they raised the prices they needed to focus more heavily on the other incentive, exclusives.
Nope, they're gonna keep their own games PS exclusive, take the PC port money to buy more timed exclusives and convince people to buy a PS and keep them there for every new generation.
Well since the internet was all in agreement that xbox selling Forza on playstation 5 years after it released means MS are idiots, kind of makes sense that Sony selling their games to PC is very similar. Also the next Xbox is going to be a PC that can run steam, therefore it can run PC ported Sony games. Since reddit and twitter are in agreement that it's very stupid to let your competition play your games, makes sense that Sony gonna ditch PC porting.
We asked for this, we were just very fucking stupid and didn't realize what we were saying. (and by "we" I exclude myself because I've been trying to argue against shitting on Xbox selling on other platforms, but it's too late for that now)
They've said the sales on games they have done it for haven't been worth the cost of multiplatform development.
That's of course because the games are past their hype window by then but if they go for simultaneous release it will hurt the desire for the console itself and since xbox is already on its way out of that scene it'd be foolish of Playstation to follow.
Porting games costs money and from what I’ve gathered they make a pretty insignificant amount back on steam sales and it gives less incentive for anyone to buy a ps5 if they know it’s gonna come out on pc anyways. It’s smart, they know what they’re doing

Sony isn't porting their PS games to PC anymore
