My backlog is big enough that I won’t miss the PS games.

368

u/Frostyfraust Jun 03 '26

I'll miss it, but not enough to buy their console.

142

u/BreadDziedzic Jun 03 '26

Especially not for nearly 1k after taxes.

12

u/Equivalent-Wooden Jun 03 '26

Bro what? Where do you live?

22

u/Castelante Jun 03 '26

The PS5 Pro now costs $900 in the US.

12

u/GumGumActV Jun 03 '26

Tbf that’s on you for buying the pro, super unnecessary tbh

The reason is PSSR. And if you have a large enough screen, the difference is very noticeable.

1

u/GumGumActV Jun 04 '26

What is pssr

3

u/Farsoth Jun 04 '26

PSSR stands for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution. It is an AI-powered upscaling technology exclusively featured on the PlayStation 5 Pro.Developed by Sony in collaboration with AMD, PSSR works similarly to PC upscalers like Nvidia’s DLSS or AMD’s FSR. It renders games at lower, more efficient internal resolutions and uses an AI library to analyze images pixel-by-pixel, upscaling them to sharp, high-fidelity resolutions like 4K. This process frees up console processing power, allowing for higher frame rates and better ray tracing.

Before experiencing it it doesn't sound that special, but on an 86" screen like I have, hoo boy. Shit looks insane compared to how it did before, and performance is better.

The ps5 pro is absolutely worth it

1

u/GumGumActV Jun 04 '26

What is actually better about it

1

u/Thestickleman Jun 05 '26

Games look and run a hell of alot better than base ps5 massive difference in some games. Much bigger hard drive. I don't if it's 5he console or disc drive but plays 4k films better than my base ps5 did

Very happy with it and well worth it

1

u/h3lion_prime Jun 05 '26

That's how subsidized hardware works. You don't pay up front for it, cause it would be a hell of a lot more expensive. You pay for it with the subscription they love to tie you with. And even that subsidized hardware price, recently got inflated. So you really have to think twice if it is indeed worth buying one.

-1

u/therealzist Jun 03 '26

Its the better buy than the base. It will be able to better handle the ps6 games that will be released

4

u/Bedsheats Jun 03 '26

When we’re only a few years away from ps6 the ps5 pro is super unnecessary.

Feels like the only good thing outta it is the PSSR tech that will 100% be in ps6

1

u/therealzist Jun 03 '26

I can guarantee that the ps 5pro will be significantly cheaper than the 6 and still supported. Considering how lame the ps5 gen has been id hold off on the 6

2

u/GumGumActV Jun 04 '26

Yeah I’m not buying 6 for a while but I’m also quite comfortable with the ps5 base. Same as I was with ps4 base so I’m sure it’ll be just fine

-1

u/StrobeLightRomance Jun 03 '26

You know you don't HAVE to get the most expensive one, right? You can literally spend half of that and not be dramatic about it.

Like, I have had the base system with no disc tray for years and have no desire to "upgrade"

6

u/Castelante Jun 03 '26

The regular PS5 is now $600 for a digital-only version, and $650 for a version with a disc drive. Those aren't exactly cheap either.

1

u/Tasty_Community4666 Jun 03 '26

That's 33% cheaper than the quote above

2

u/BrilliantBehemoth Jun 03 '26

You're whatabouting right now though. Bottom line is, they want people to buy the expensive console and they made it that expensive. That's bad, btw, at least for us consumers

-1

u/StrobeLightRomance Jun 03 '26

That's not what whataboutism is. You're conflating a $400 system with a $900 system when they do the same thing.

That's like me making a blunt statement that all PCs are $5000 and far more expensive by comparison just because I can find some that are.

6

u/AdWaste8026 Jun 03 '26

There is no 400 PS5. It's 600 now.

3

u/BrilliantBehemoth Jun 03 '26

No, Im paying no mind that there exists a cheaper system that plays the game worse. I don't care. Im talking about the shamelessness of the company that you're defending. Either way, buying a console for one game is a real privileged purchase anyways, and out of the question for most people, not to mention stopping PC releases is anti-consumer and therefore, anti-you.

0

u/ConstantFrogLoss Jun 09 '26

You don’t need the Pro to play any games? The base PS5 works great especially for its first party games

6

u/SSJashG Jun 03 '26

Over 1K here.

Canada lol

1

u/Sleyvin Jun 04 '26

The average PC user also doesnt have a $1200 gpu so wtf are you even trying to argue.

At least don't change the point

5

u/BreadDziedzic Jun 03 '26

Not really the point since at least on PC you could play your games in 8k if you had the screen to see it where as PS5 can't.

2

u/Leather_Afternoon_37 Jun 03 '26

Then the average pc user doesnt have a 1.5kusd graphics card. You see how stupid your point sounds?

8

u/enjoyingcurve46 Jun 03 '26

Is that what you’re stuck rocking? Im sorry little child. Maybe mow some lawns and you’ll be able to afford at least 1080p

3

u/tickedoffsquid999 Jun 03 '26

Man people give away 1080p TVs lol

1

u/sr7olsniper Jun 03 '26

Dont need to . Have an 8k monitor super ultra wide. Also have a PS5 but there are some games I refuse to be a pleb to in console. For these mentioned in particular im cool with PS5, but for Saros aint no way im getting that shit uinless its PC

17

u/johnnysilverhand718 Jun 03 '26

34" 1440p ultrawide.

Thanks though

0

u/Ok-Criticism6874 Jun 03 '26

I have a 65 in. oled

15

u/johnnysilverhand718 Jun 03 '26

And our $1200 GPUs play games at 4k way better than your toy box

-1

u/Ok-Criticism6874 Jun 03 '26

I can get a console a 4K TV, a couch and some games for 1200 dollars.

14

u/Character-Parfait-42 Jun 03 '26

What console games play in 4k?

0

u/enjoyingcurve46 Jun 03 '26

Actually quite a few games do. Even at 60fps. Ps5 and series x have no issues getting 4k60

→ More replies (0)

4

u/BreadDziedzic Jun 03 '26

Excuse you, curved 1440p monitor and 5080

2

u/enjoyingcurve46 Jun 03 '26

As someone who owns every console, i still dont think ps5 or series x is worth a buy at current prices if you own even a low end pc. switch 2 in a year has more exclusives than ps5 which says a lot about the amount of games ps5 has, xbox studios has more games than PlayStation studios and are all on PC, plus all the games pc has that xbox PlayStation and nintendo lack. To pay between 700$ and 1000$ for a console to play what 10 games you couldn’t before seems incredibly unreasonable

2

u/Wolf_Steele Jun 03 '26

First off, you don't need expensive hardware to have fun with PCs.

Secondly, PCs have HDMI connections too, allowing us to link TVs to it.

Thirdly, even with hardware cheaper than the PS5, we have access to way more fun games.

So yeah ... Sony games won't be really missed.

And as a small addition, if Sony doesn't want to make money on PC ... we can still sail the seven seas

"Piracy is not a money problem, it's a service problem"

good service = less piracy

bad service = more piracy

other examples to that: when Netflix and spotify first came along, they really lowered the amount of pirated movies/series and music ... with all their restrictions and price hikes nowadays, tbey lead people back to become pirates

2

u/Leather_Afternoon_37 Jun 03 '26

Yeah, rather than spend 1k on a console for one or two games... you see how stupid that sounds?

You can already emulate ps4 which a large portion of ps5 games are ps4 games. How long until your ps5 is pointless to even keep around after it is obsolete?

0

u/Ok-Criticism6874 Jun 03 '26

Wheree can you emulate PS4 games, reliability?

2

u/Leather_Afternoon_37 Jun 03 '26

You don't know about shadps4? You really don't know what youre talking about

0

u/Ok-Criticism6874 Jun 03 '26

This is a 100% PS4 emulation? How can I not know what I'm talking about when I'm asking a question?

2

u/Leather_Afternoon_37 Jun 03 '26

You are talking about how people waste money on an expensive graphics card but wont waste money on a console that is largely pointless bar a few games, when that same pc is already running ps4 games.

Then you say the average user does not have a super expensive pc to do such things with, but that completely invalidates your argument where pc players spend massive amounts of money on graphics cards...

I tell you about shadps4 which you don't even know about because you are ignorant to why pc players don't want to waste their money on useless tech that exists to lure wallets into their walled garden of a marketplace platform

But yeah if people spend 1k on a graphics card then its a no brainer to waste money on a console that is inferior and will be replaced by an even more expensive cash grab console generation that still expects you to spend money to be given the privilege to use your own internet service

0

u/Ok-Criticism6874 Jun 03 '26

The ps5 plays ps4 games, I win, you lose

20 inch 2160p 240hz monitor and a 5090 made me stop using my ps5, it’s great to play consoles on a budget but pc is the premier gaming experience

1

u/Aerdurval Jun 03 '26

Have fun with Wolverine then, lol

1

u/Famous-Instance-5129 Jun 08 '26

lol I will, on my ps5, but will be thinking… wow this could be much better on pc

PS5’s are 900 new, but great on you getting a bargain!

2

u/SuicideKingsHigh Jun 03 '26

So I can play at 30 fps on 1080p. I'm good on that big dog. Or I can drop a grand for a pro and get....wait for it.....60 fps for my money, maybe, some of the time.

I was fine before they started porting games, I'll be fine long after.

3

u/Rakumei Jun 03 '26

This is literally me.

1

u/therealzist Jun 03 '26

0

u/HIitsamy1 Jun 03 '26

-7

I mean, you can get a used PS5 for like $200 bucks at this point.

6

1

u/ShadowBro3 Jun 03 '26

13

1

5

u/Scorpdelord Jun 03 '26

Im pretty sure we all got a backlog to never needing to but games again😭

3

u/KRTrueBrave Jun 03 '26

I mean sure, but I still really really wanted wolverine on pc...

2

u/ErmingSoHard Jun 03 '26

I'm going to guess most people are sad is not supporting PC, rather than the concept of their games not going on PC lol. The sales numbers of Sony games on PC aren't great despite the turmoil Sony pulling out.

I feel sad too but then I remember I only have Miles Morales and God of War on PC and never finished them

1

u/KRTrueBrave Jun 03 '26

have all 3 spider-man games and 100%ed them too (almost still need to finish new game plus for sm2), that was recently too btw, I owned 1 and miles for a while now, 2 I only got recently though

I loved the spider-man games a ton, which is why I'm sad I can't play wolverine (unless fans find a way to port it to pc somehow illegally...) I couldn't even cave and buy a ps5 if I wanted too, I cod have gotten just the game (maybe not on release day though) but I can't get a console with it, even if we are talking about used ones for 300

I can't do anything about it, I know, but I can still voice my opinion that they should go back to pc releases

2

u/StandNameIsWeAreNo1 Jun 05 '26

Second hand PS4 for Bloodborne BAYBEY

3

u/Upstairs-Event-681 Jun 03 '26

Doesn’t having a big backlog just mean you’re not playing the games you’re buying? Like sure, it’s nice to have many choices but what’s the point if you’re not really excited about any of them

1

u/SwitchIsBestConsole Jun 08 '26

It's not a flex. It's an explanation. They will never miss out on playing Playstation games cause they don't have time to play the games they have already. So, Playstation doing this is useless and means nothing for pc players

1

u/Upstairs-Event-681 Jun 09 '26

It is a flex, because they’re basically saying “I won’t miss this cause I got this”. You can miss PS exclusives and also have a backlog.

But to me, it sounds more like they’re hoarding lots of games that they don’t REALLY want to play that much. I don’t think you can have a backlog if you buy just stuff that you’re excited about playing, I am also very busy, I know how it is. I’ve seen too many posts of “Decided to give Witcher 3 a try after its been sitting for 3 years in my backlog” to believe this is not just hoarding.

1

u/SwitchIsBestConsole Jun 09 '26

Games go on sale for huge deals all the time. Even I have Witcher 3 with all expansions because it went on sale for 2.99 during a time when it was 60 bucks. Even when you are busy or have multiplayer games that you play with other people everyday, it makes sense to buy it then and not when you're ready to play it and the price is at what, 50 ?

Flex and hoarding is also still doing a lot of heavy lifting here. i could be incorrect on that since I'm most likely older than you at 38. If I say I don't want to buy wired earphones because I have wireless earbuds, is that a flex? It doesn't seem like he's trying to brag, just stating a fact or opinion.

1

u/vocaloidKR03 Jun 03 '26

Honestly this. I don't judge anyone for buying games when they go on sale, but I don't see how it's a flex if your free time is limited to the point you have that many to go through. Sounds more like a chore than a hobby at that point.

1

u/Mister-Psychology Jun 03 '26

In principle in a few years you'll subscribe to their stream and merely stream the games you bought. It's already possible yet not easy and you need to own a PlayStation controller.

-1

u/Shinnyo Jun 03 '26

Seriously, I still have many games to play through... It's Sony's loss on this one.

Capcom understood well the PC market is a huge share.

1

u/Rmsbasto Jun 03 '26

How can that be? I have about 200 games in my backlog and if Laufey or Wolverine dropped on PC it would immediately go to my top of games to play next.

I think you're just coping. I don't have a Playstation nor do I want one but damn you are straight up lying to yourself if you say that the masterpiece that was presented yesterday won't be missed because of the games you already have.

Unless you simply don't like the type of game, that I could understand.

2

u/DinDonDaaan Jun 03 '26

Damn, we're calling it a masterpiece after a single trailer?

Curiosly, half of the GOW fans hated the new installations, while the other half consider it one of the best series ever.

1

u/Rmsbasto Jun 03 '26

I mean I am but I am biased, I love God of War and I love mythology in general.

The trailer of yesterday was absolutely amazing and to me I know it will be a masterpiece if it's even half of wat GoW 2018 and Ragnarok were.

I like both the original trilogy and the two last games even though they are very different.

1

u/Fit_Tomatillo_4264 Jun 03 '26

Why would I want to play a god of war game without the God of War?

11

u/Competitive-Yam-1068 Jun 03 '26 edited Jun 03 '26

Maybe cuz she was the original bearer of leviathan, the one who fougth Odin's aesir/Thor... which figth ended on a tie showing how powerful she is?

And cuz she's the reason why Kratos found a reason to live when he was basically an empty soul after killing everyone in the greek saga?

11 years ago we didn't had this issues about people whining or saying "woke" when Infamous First Light got released, because people back then fucking played the games and knew how important the characters were and how an expansion of the world as other game was a good thing, in fact... Back then people was asking for more games from the same franchise but other lead characters.

-6

u/Fit_Tomatillo_4264 Jun 03 '26

It doesn't really matter, it's called God of War, people want Kratos.

8

u/Competitive-Yam-1068 Jun 03 '26 edited Jun 03 '26

Oh, you mean the Kratos who is having the remake of greek saga, got a new game about his youth days and will probably have another game which is gonna be highly connected to this game since it's a world expansion but even so people is bitching?, that same Kratos?, then you'll be able to play his games a lot.

Yeah, sorry pal, but if you think this game has been made "just because we can" and it's not gonna be connected with other future and past games you're so wrong

0

u/Chadderbug123 Jun 03 '26

It kind of falls into the trap of some franchises. The core of rhe story were those originals. Unless you do it right, it doesn't hit the same as those initial ones that made the series so popular. It sometimes feels like a shot in the foot for many. Take Last of Us part 2 killing off Joel.

1

u/HeyIDoubtIt Jun 03 '26

Because Kratos' story is clearly done after Ragnarok

1

u/Darth-Sonic Jun 03 '26

It’s a spin-off dude.

-1

u/Fit_Tomatillo_4264 Jun 03 '26

They say that until the next idea they get is "No one wants to play God of War anymore, It doesn't have the same pull that it used to".

3

u/Darth-Sonic Jun 03 '26

What?

1

u/Fit_Tomatillo_4264 Jun 03 '26

The excuse is it's just a spin-off but then when it doesn't do well financially, the suits get the wrong impression and they get it in their head "people don't want this anymore".

2

u/Darth-Sonic Jun 03 '26

I highly doubt it will do poorly. Everyone was saying “go woke, go broke” with Ghost of Yotei. It sold 3.3 million copies in the first month.

1

u/saxonturner Jun 03 '26

I find most PS single players kinda bore fest quick time event slogs to be fair, not really been too impressed with any of the ones that game to PC.

0

u/Classic-Suspect3661 Jun 03 '26

I have a ps5 so i don't care. Idk why everyone is so against buying a console

2

u/DinDonDaaan Jun 03 '26

Most of us don't want to spend 5-600 bucks to play a couple games. Unpopular opinion, but there's not much i care for on Sony's gamelist. I'd buy Laufey if it came on Pc, otherwise i've got plenty of great games to choose from.

0

u/Classic-Suspect3661 Jun 03 '26

Then don't but stop crying about it. Saros alone was worth the 500 for me

Same, I'm not going to miss anything of matter. Between my backlog and games coming out I will have access too via Steam, I don't care who doesn't want to sell me a game. They're just giving me more time with other games at their own expense.
