Last of us part 2 should not have won

Ghost of tsushima deserved that win. It had a better story than Tlou 2's revenge plot that felt forced halfway

Not even in the conversation. Ghost is hogwarts legacy in a different setting, and hogwarts legacy isn't getting that level of praise.

100% true, I don’t know why people love ghost so much

Disagree

why?

u/TNS_420 May 31 '25

Because I love the game. It's one of my all-time top 3 favorites, along with The Witcher 3 and RDR2, and I absolutely think it deserved to win that year.

I’m with you, except it has moved to the top of the heap for me. My top all time.

alright, your opinion

It's a fantastic game with an engaging and emotional story. I know people didn't want "that person" to die, but it was a violent revenge story. Ellie/we needed a horribly good reason to head to Seattle.

I just don't get why people hate on it so much.

TLOU Pt. II demands a lot of emotional intelligence and unfortunately, gamers don’t have much.

Audience scores are useless for judging any form of media, and TLOU Pt. II winning over 200 GOTY Awards is all you need to know.

DOOM Eternal also rocks

This goes against what most people consider good in terms of morality, and for people it's important that the story is good when they play a character

This goes against what most people consider good in terms of morality

You think anyone is thinking about morality when they want to get revenge on something/someone?

u/Atarosek May 31 '25

Most people still dont want to do bad things in made up scenarios

u/INannoI May 31 '25

Then why do the overwhelming majority of players want to kill Abby after she kills Joel?

-1

u/spinnefink Jun 01 '25

Does the game give you a choice? I personally would never go on that trip to Seattle. Why would anyone? There is no realistic chance to survive that.

2

u/INannoI Jun 01 '25

Because her father was brutally murdered and she wants revenge, literally every player is in agreement with Ellie’s decision at this point. Its a suicide mission, her own survival is not a priority to her.

I find it funny that people are down for a revenge movie, but games...not so much.

-1

u/spinnefink Jun 01 '25

Well, you see the difference between a 2 hour movie and a 50 hour game, in which you literally have to play/be the main character?

1

u/ssslitchey May 31 '25

It's mainly the story that sucks. Imo it really fails at being a good "revenge bad" narrative. On paper the idea of ending the cycle of violence that was started by Joel is good but the way the game handles it kinda ruins the core message.

u/Rhysing Jun 01 '25

It might be the best game on this list but it shouldn't have won?

Against what.. A hogwarts legacy in Japan?

u/Shanerstd Jun 01 '25

Best stealth gameplay outside of metal gear solid 5. And that not even the point of the game.

-1

u/Ultima893 Jun 01 '25

The Last of Us 2 is literally the most awarded video game of all time, and won the second most amount of GOTYs worldwide in gaming history with 322 GOTYs. Only Elden Ring has more (363).

TLOU2 absolutely should have one its one of the best games of all time for sure.

Part 2 deserved it, part 1 shouldve won 2013

0

u/GreenTurtle69420 May 31 '25

any reasons why?

4

u/Johnny_esma May 31 '25

Story telling, visuals, gameplay, performance. Everything was top tier, any reason why you think it didnt deserve it?

-3

u/GreenTurtle69420 May 31 '25

So you're saying that TLOU2 had the best gameplay of 2020? the best GAMEPLAY?

2

u/Johnny_esma May 31 '25

When did i say it was the best gameplay of that year? Reading comprehension. I didnt play all of the games of that year so i cant tell you if it was the best or not but it was better than RDR2, also GOTY isnt decided only by one topic. You also didnt answer my question.

-1

u/GreenTurtle69420 May 31 '25
  1. As you described the gameplay as 'top tier' and we are discussing game of the year, I inferred that TLOU2's gamplay was worthy of GOTY. As GOTY apparently determines the best game of the year... I think you understand how I came to that conslusion.

  2. How did you say TLOU2 performs well? It runs at 30fps on the ps4!

  3. I believe it shouldn't have won due to the previously mentioned bad performance and derivative gameplay. A game shouldn't win GAME of the year due to a nice story and pretty graphics, and nothing else of note. In my opinion, a game needs to innovate gameplay in some way to win GOTY.

4

u/Johnny_esma May 31 '25

Even at 30fps the game had no stutters or breaking bugs but if thats your point of discussion on why it shouldnt have won. RDR2 was and still is 30fps so i don’t understand your argument which is the point of this discussion. If you think red dead has better gameplay than tlou2 then i dont know what to tell you, tlou2 is above in that department and most people would agree.

-2

u/GreenTurtle69420 May 31 '25

i'm sorry, but you can't call 30 fps good performance. 30fps objectively hinders the experience compared to 60+ fps. Also, why are you talking about RDR2? I feel like you're moving the goalposts here.

u/Johnny_esma May 31 '25

Please tell me what game deserved goty that year over tlou2
