Funny Same Logic. Selective Outrage. š
People always compare the treatment of victims & oppressed groups to the way animals are treated, but the moment we flip the comparison, suddenly itās wrong? 𤣠Comparing two things ā claiming they're identical. An analogy ā an equation. Learn the difference. The dictionary is free. xoxo

Just tried kala namak on an avocado and I realized something...
I like to eat avocados with various salt mixes. Janes crazy, old bay, creole, etc
I just tried out indian black salt (kala namak) and it tasted just like egg yolk!
That's when I realized... kala nama + avo = the green eggs that sam I am didn't want to try...
But more importantly, I bet you could do deviled tofu bites with avo as the filling.

Rant Non-Vegans Mad About Animal Abuse
I was watching a video talking about a streamer being abusive towards a cat; I agree, it's a horrible horrible thing, but the amount of comments (who are likely not vegan)that are rightfully upset is infuriating since it's so hypocritical. Here are some:
"Anyone who abuses animals should be on a watch list."
"I absolutely dispise people who hurt animals. ACTUALLY bottom of the barrel human beings. Disgusting. They cannot speak or fight back."
"Anyone who mistreats animals or pets is the lowest of the lows"
Like... those are vegan sounding words but I doubt all 5.8K comments are vegans so which is it? Is it disgusting and psychopathic behaviour? Or the moment you consume their flesh to is fine. I'm so tired of it.

Relationships Where do I find dates as a wlw vegan?
Hi!
I'm a 26 year old vegan woman living in a mid-sized Eastern US city. I'd love to find a romantic partner at some point.
I'm only interested in dating monoamorous vegan women (who are looking to date women) and I don't have much of an interest in long-distance at all, so I feel like my dating pool is very small.
I've been single for a couple of years.
I tried dating a couple of carnists, but I accepted I just cannot. I had a fun few dates with a woman I met on Veggly, but she told me she didn't feel romantic chemistry with me.
How do I find sapphic vegan singles in my area?
Which apps have y'all had success with? I'm interested in hearing from more than just queer women!
Thanks!

The price of being a Pick Me Vegan.
You don't want to ruffle feathers.
The hen doesn't want to be pecked to death on a feces covered floor at a cage free farm.
You don't want to cause a scene at dinner.
The mother cow didn't want to be r**ed and have her child stolen from her and killed on the first day for veal.
You don't want to jeopardize a relationship.
The pig didn't want to go into a gas chamber filled with co2 that acidifies their mouth eyes and lungs.
You're worried that you'll end up alone.
The sheep is worried about having their throat cut open.
You're scared people will call you a pushy militant vegan.
The turkey is scared of being hung upside down and having it's head cut off.
You don't want to experience the socially awkward situations.
The cow wanted to avoid walking down a blood stained cattle chute feeling the raw fear from the horrible death that they know is coming. They smell the blood, they experience the fear, they feel alone and helpless while being prodded to continue marching to the nightmare at the end of it.
Every 24 hours 230-240 million cows/sheep/pigs/turkeys/chickens experience the cruelest most violent death that you could ever imagine..
But atleast you get to fit in with the people causing all of this. Atleast you get to bask in the every day comforts while ignoring the urgency of this dystopian hell that humans have created.
Does it feel nice to normalize and trivialize the violence that's happening?
Do you feel like just being vegan is good enough? If a burning building with people inside it needed you, would you feel good slowly walking and pouring a single cup of water onto it? Does it feel good to send the message that this is all perfectly fine and I won't try to stop the ones responsible for this?
Every hour that you spend being a passive non confrontational pick me vegan hundreds of millions of land animals and billions of sea creatures pay the price for your casual activism.
I know we all want to play the "I'll just be a good example and people will eventually follow my lead game", but during the abolishing of slavery simply not owning slaves wasn't enough to end it. Nor was simply not being a n*zi during ww2.
It's good that you're vegan, but how far does that seem to reach when meat consumption per capita has risen 300-500% in the past 50 years?
The animals are scared, injured, tormented, hopeless, and beaten down so much by what we've done to them, and for some reason everyone seems fine ignoring the urgency of their plight..
Please wake up, and help these poor souls find the justice that they deserve.
Please stop being a Pick Me Vegan.

How do you deal with the feeling that you're surrounded by bad people?
I went vegan after watching Dominion, and I made a YouTube video about the topic a few months ago which I posted here. One of my brothers and one of my friends watched it. My girlfriend doesn't want to but I've still talked to her about some of the arguments and the footage I've seen. Her first reaction was to make excuses like 'animals do it too' and 'I just feel like we are meant to be omnivores'. Turns out another one of my friends had already seen footage of chickens being hung up and having their throats slit, but continues to eat meat. While drunk, my other brother asked why I'm vegan, I explained that it involves killing, torture, rape and separation of families. He literally said 'who gives a shit about animals?'. My mum makes the excuse that plants also don't want to be eaten, tomatoes 'scream' and that we're all just part of one big consciousness that is sharing energy or whatever.
I don't want to start any arguments with anyone, so if we're having a conversation about it and I bring up a point that they can't refute, so they change the subject, I don't push it, but in my head, I can't help but feel like I'm surrounded by psychopathic idiots who make these illogical excuses to continue putting other beings through torture when they have an easy choice not to, because they simply don't care about anyone other than themselves and people/pets that they know personally.
It just feels so isolating. I can't even talk to anyone in my life about this because, well, it applies to them too. And if I happened to be born as a different species, there's a good chance they literally wouldn't care at all if I were fed into a meat grinder while conscious. So maybe they're nice to me, but it's only because I'm a member of a species that has arbitrarily been deemed worthy of compassion, so why should I even care what they think?
Any thoughts or advice would be great, thanks guys!

Uplifting Vegan Friend
Hello everybody, Iām just here looking for a platonic Vegan friend.
Itās been five years now since I went Vegan and I thought it would help my health and my life, but itās been a very challenging decision.
Iāve lost lots of family, but Iāve always had a dysfunctional relationship with many and few friends.
My whole life I suffered from depression, but I think I keep challenging myself to be a better person and I know Iām a survivor.
Currently, Iām dealing with high cholesterol LDL, which is unusual for vegans as initially when I went Vegan it went down and then itās gone up the last few years where I may have to go on meds, not to mention, dealing with severe acid reflex and hiatal hernia.
Iād love to travel travelling has been next to impossible now with my health and my Plant Based vegan diet for incense. I was in the Philippines recently. It was so difficult. I was lucky to find fried tofu and vegetable rice on the menu a few places unless I was interested in making my own food like I do pretty much at home.
Iām based out of Toronto Canada, but does it really make a difference where youāre located? Iām just looking for an online support, buddy or Friend.
If thereās anybody who can understand, please send me DM

Question Soft food alternatives
Hi everyone, Iām a new vegan of around a month. Before veganism i used to eat chilli con carne every day at dinner and so when making the switch i swapped out beef mince for a soy protein alternative. Unfortunately I have cavities on both sides of my mouth each on back teeth that have temporary fillings in. One is cracked but the other has been through root treatment and so i want to avoid damaging the filling with the treatment until i can get a cap so iāve been eating on the cracked side which has been causing me pain when eating the plant based mince. So Iām looking for an alternative with a similar amount of protein that lowkey doesnāt have to be chewed.
I do have a peanut and tree nut allergy so excluding anything with nuts, any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

Food Advice on pets
Hello everyone, I usually donāt post anything on here, but Iāve been vegetarian since childhood and vegan for seven years now ever since I turned 18. I grew up with pets like bunnies, fish and a cat but closest I was always to my two dogs who sadly passed two years ago of old age. I want to adopt a dog again in the future but one thing on my mind is the food. I donāt think thereās an ethical way of slaughter but I also donāt think itās ethical to feed dogs a vegan diet. We used to mix veggies and rice with my late dogs food, but then of course also regular dog food.
So my question to any cat or dog owning vegan is, how do you manage? Are there any brands youād recommend that are somewhat ethical?

Advice How do I start loving cooking?
I never liked cooking. And ofc everyone hates seeing something being dirty or have possible infections, but I haven't stepped over this stage yet.
I definitely will have to cook (I've only discovered that I want to go vegan, I'm not yet 18 and live with my parents. I bet there will also be some problems about buying stuff, not about money, but going out separately. Because I have no clue how to find out if something is a good vegetable or not).
My mom most definitely will ask me to cook my own stuff (which is valid. If she wouldn't force me to continue eating meat of course). A lot of people dislike spending time on stuff they don't like and I may sound like a child, but I don't even like going out with my friends if we're not doing something really useful or/and interesting for us. I also had some troubles with understanding the physical world around me and my body (for example: dislike washing my hair, don't understand whether I have to clean my ears, not notice those things in my eyes), so I guess it's going to be a problem too. I need the whole instruction and of course mom wouldn't give it to me. Another point is that my mom works in the kitchen and I wouldn't be able to go there and cook without her cooking something else or judging eyes. Often she would ask me something and if I did it wrong (though even if I asked how she'd refuse to say) she'd just go "I'll do it myself", so I'm also afraid I wouldn't learn (and one of the reasons why my brain can kinda give up on things). I don't have any friends that live close to try with them or any vegan friends in my country.
I've already tried to learn cooking and I had an opportunity, but it'd be like five times a year? So basically nothing. And I would forget it really quickly. Even if I did write it down idk where it's now. Ik that we have internet for that, but following all instructions doesn't equal knowing how to cook.
I heard that doing a lot of stuff at the weekends for later helps (and the possibility to make it fun). I'm asking for some recipes and maybe some sites with basic cooking and choosing food information. And ofc how to make cooking more interesting (I'd love to do it with friends, but no luck here. Probably make new ones, but my city is kinda small, so I barely found decent ones). Any other useful sites or documents are welcome (such as types of food to universally use).

high protein sides for lions mane steak?
i finally found a shop selling lions mane mushrooms and want to try lions mane steaks.
the issue is i workout a lot and try to get 30g protein/meal and the mushroom will only give me ~3g. most traditional steak sides are usually just carbs or veg as with meat steaks the protein is usually coming from the steak itself.
https://sweetpotatosoul.com/lions-mane-steaks/#wprm-recipe-container-24326. this is the recipe i plan to try. if anyone has ideas for a side dish with protein i would really appreciate it.

I hope farmers donāt treat animals worse because theyāre losing money.
Iām vegan and I wonāt ever go back to animals product consumption. There isnāt anything shone could say that would compel me to change back, ever.
I was sitting here thinking, āthe horrific way animals are treated, I hope it doesnāt get worseā since they already have zero regard for the way they feel, taking their loss out on the animals would be something I could see happening. I really hope we speed this process up and more people get the message.
The faster we can change laws and close farms, offer replacement crops for struggling farmers, the better the animals and our world will be.
They are in my heart and mind their suffering is significant. I just want their peaceful liberation.

Food I already eat a good variety of vegetables, what things can I add?
This probably isnāt a full list, but these are the items I cycle through most each month.
I donāt really like fresh tomatoes, but eat them on occasion in salsa or cooked into rice. I donāt think I eat them enough to add them to the list.
I live in the Northeastern US. What new vegetables could I try to incorporate?
Fresh
Asparagus
Avocado
Beets (red and orange)
Broccoli
Brussels sprouts
Cabbage (green and purple)
Cauliflower
Carrots
Celery
Cucumber
Garlic
Ginger
Kale (different kinds)
Lettuce (usually romaine or green leaf)
Onion (usually red, sometimes white)
Peppers (red, orange and yellow)
Potatoes (variety)
Spinach
Squash (summer, zucchini, acorn, butternut, spaghetti)
Sweet potatoes (like 5 different kinds)
Frozen
Broccoli
Peas
Corn
Green beans

First vegan focused shopping trip : success!
Hey y'all
Me again. Thanks so much for your suggestions in my last posts. I stopped at Costco and Trader Joe's today and successfully only purchased vegan products. I don't feel deprived or missing out at all!
I accidentally purchased some dairy pudding because it was next to vegan pudding though. I'll still eat it to avoid waste.
Thank you š
Edit - I just gathered up the last of the non vegan foods and packed them up to go to a food pantry. I feel more confident in the reality of a vegan diet and lifestyle :)

It's weird how farm animals are always described as "giving" us things
I was helping a friend with some grocery shopping the other day and she casually said something about how chickens give us eggs and cows give us milk.
I've heard those exact phrases probably thousands of times. But for some reason that day the word "give" really bothered me.
Because think about how we talk about these animals.
Cows give us milk. Chickens give us eggs. Sheep give us wool.
We don't say we take those things from them. They're apparently just very generous animals who spend their lives providing us with stuff.
And when they stop being useful, the language changes again.
A hen becomes "spent." A dairy cow gets "culled." Animals don't get killed, they get "processed." Nobody has to do anything unpleasant because the words make it sound like some kind of routine administrative procedure.
I brought this up to my friend, not even trying to start an argument. She actually laughed and said I was overthinking normal expressions.
Maybe I am. I know not everyone using these words is consciously trying to hide anything. I used them myself before going vegan.
But I keep thinking about how different those sentences sound when you replace "give" with "we take."
"Chickens give us eggs" sounds like a nice arrangement.
"We take chickens' eggs" immediately invites the question of why we're entitled to them.
And "cows give us milk" conveniently leaves out the calf entirely.
I wonder how much of our ability to treat certain animals as products comes from learning to talk about them that way before we're even old enough to question it.
Anyone else have a completely ordinary phrase that started sounding disturbing after going vegan?

Positivity about non vegan friends
I totally understand why so many posts here are negative, because people use it as a place to commiserate with others who will get it, but I have read so many stories about people who's non vegan friends are horrible to them so - for anyone who is lurking here and trying to decide if veganism is worth it - I wanted to share that veganism does not have to mean social ostracization. I also live in a major American city so that definitely makes it easier.
I have been vegan for 10 years and while most of my friends still eat meat and animal products, many of them have learned how to cook vegan meals (and as a result now eat more vegan food) so I am not left out! I noticed at a friends-giving last year that every dish was vegan because the 5 other people all happened to bring vegan food. This past weekend a friend of mine hosted dinner for me and three other people and made an extravagant vegan meal that everyone loved. I also noticed my friends always look for vegan options before inviting me to restaurants. Ofc there is sometimes just one or two depending on the place, but I am almost never in a situation where there is nothing for me to eat.
I am incredibly lucky, and not making this post to brag. I have definitely had friends make fun of it (one 'friend' in college sent me videos of a slaughter house when we were having a mild prank war) but now that I am a bit older I have realized there are a lot of people who will go out of their way to make sure you are still included.

Protein, large muscles, and vegan?
I know, a lot of people workout and are vegans. But Iām referring to people with actual significant muscle mass. How much protein do you get a day? If you can upload a picture that would be fantastic. The reason I request to see is because I typically only know and have heard of lean vegans, but very rarely do I know or see actually muscular vegans. I know they exist (because Iāve seen a few influences on Instagram) but itās very hard to get a hold of them and Iām curious how they get their protein and what their routine is like in order to consume throughout the day. I know Tofu, Setian, etc. but Iām more referring to specifics, like, how long they have been on this diet, how does it make them feel, and have they been able to sustain it? Again, Iām not interested much in cardio body compositions, Iām referring to large frame muscles.

VEGA Clear protein Watermelon, don't buy it, it's gross.
That's about it, don't waste your money unless you enjoy the taste of rotting watermelon that has synthetic sweetener dumped on it. I diluted with double the water and still barely able to drink it through the sickly sweet taste and two day old watermelon flavour. Sorry VEGA, you're a great company, this is a bad product. Remove the flavour and sweetener and maybe you've got something worth $100 for 53 servings.
