Before that she was the leader and her sister’s protector if that makes sense. Sassy and confident but friendly. Her sister Pearl was the weakest, smallest, and snuggliest hen that I had. RIP Pearl

Very sulky, standing around in the area where I found her sister’s body, trying to roost high up on the fence for the first time (which surprises me bc she is half silkie)
When I gather her up off the fence in the evening to put her in the coop, it upsets her ☹️

Her Silkie sister was snatched up by a raccoon the other night. Now she is roosting on the fence for the first time in her life. Smart of her to make the correlation “high up means no hurt” ☹️

Right? I’m not sure, but this type will average anywhere from 60-100+. The babies interlock legs and stack in layers on her.
It’s esp crazy if you shine a light on one at night and see hundreds of eyes staring back

From this picture & angle alone, a Rabid will have little chevrons on the abdomen within that brown center stripe while a dotted has one continuous solid brown stripe like this guy.
That’s kind of the biggest giveaway here. Another difference is that the rabid has a plain belly, and a dotted will have spots on their belly but I didn’t get to see it.

Oh you get it then! Yes Pearl (RIP) was so, so dumb and sweet. The girls would walk away and she would just be left staring at the fence alone until they would come back to guide her 😭
