Problems with start/stop-signals between Reaper and hardware-sequencer
Hello,
I tried to sync the Keystep Pro with the Reaper Midi-clock and I thought I could just start and stop sequences on the keystep either on itself of via Midi Cc messages. But everytime I press start in Reaper it send start signals immediately and the Keystep starts as well. I tried to turn off enable midi messages and turn on midi clock in reaper, but then the keystep doesnt receive clock anymore and if I leave enable midi messages on in reaper and turn off only the receive of transport messages on the keystep it also doesnt work. I‘m sending the keystep back, because I couldnt find a solution online and AI is hallucinating and therefore no help.
Does anybody know a different sequencer where it works with reaper, like for example the korg sq64, or any other solution to this. I want to just sync the clock and the sequence and either send dedicated cc messages start/stop or just start stop on the sequencer to master external hardware that is slaved to the sequencer.
I‘m grateful for any help, because midi routing is driving me crazy.
Cheers

Cheap synth with aux input
Help from the hive mind please! I'm looking for a first synth with a keyboard that I can use as part of a live indie set. Along with playing the odd riff, the primary requirement is an aux input so that I can bring in mp3s/wav clips etc for performing interesting noise between songs and for layering over quiet bits etc.
I don't want to spend loads (£200 ish if possible?). My first thought was a microkorg but before I complete the time-travel back to 2005 I thought I'd see if there was anything else that was potentially better/cheaper for the task?
Thanks very much!

MPE desktop synth for LinnStrument — Nymphes, Steampipe, Argon8M or Cobalt8M?
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for a reasonably priced MPE desktop synth to use with my LinnStrument. Ideally something fairly compact that I can take out for live performances.
The main ones I’m considering are the Dreadbox Nymphes, Erica Synths Steampipe, and Modal Argon8M/Cobalt8M. My problem is that I haven’t had a chance to play any of them, especially with an MPE controller, so I’d love to hear from people who have.
A bit of background: I come from playing guitar and mostly use the stock synths in Bitwig and Ableton. I really enjoyed the GR-300 model in the BOSS SY-1000, and I love the expressive synth leads in Blade Runner. I also listen to a lot of Barker and Deepchord, so I’d like to explore dubby chords and evolving pads alongside lead playing.
I already have a Digitakt II, Digitone II and Novation Peak. This would mainly be a dedicated instrument for the LinnStrument, including playing chords with one hand and a lead with the other.
If you’ve used any of these with a LinnStrument, how do they feel to play? How responsive are the pressure and slide controls, and how easy is it to build expressive patches on the synth itself? Any quirks worth knowing about?
Other recommendations in a similar size and price range are welcome too. Thanks!

Deluge, AstroLab 37 and Numa X Piano — fully improvised electro-jazz in a Montréal park
Hey everyone! I’m Alex, the keyboardist in Electrojazziness, an improvised electro-jazz duo. Sami and I recently finished a Québec tour, and this video is from our last show at Parc Jarry in Montréal.
My side of the setup:
- Synthstrom Deluge — sound source and live looper.
- Arturia AstroLab 37.
- Studiologic Numa X Piano — both a MIDI controller and a sound source.
Sami combines an Erica Synths drum machine, an electronic drum pad, vocal looping and a pedal looping setup, alongside freestyle vocals.
Everything is improvised, and we build our loops live, with no backing tracks or computers. The fun is in responding to each other while building up layers—and leaving enough room to take the music somewhere unexpected.
Happy to answer questions about the instruments and how we use them together! Anyone else combining live keys and hardware looping with another improviser?
