Suzerain: Galmland Vision Statement Suzerain: Socialist Republic of Galmland DLC

The Soul

Galmland brings the Suzerain universe to a socialist republic forged by victorious revolution. You play as Premier Vigdis Gjalmir, one of the first women to lead a nation in the universe, tasked with turning old revolutionary promises into a society that works.

This is governance as construction. You do not simply make policy choices, you implement them, force them through the machinery of the state, and live with the consequences of how they land. The goal is to build something better, perhaps even a utopia, and to make a people believe in the society being built around them. The obstacle is power itself: contested within your government, your committee, and the political factions of the nation you are trying to transform for the revolution or against.

Leading a country is the core experience, and Galmland pushes it further. Finished Suzerain and Rizia playthrough save games carry their related universe impacts forward into Galmland, deepening choice and consequence of your previous playthroughs. Players without a save can instead pick archetypes for Anton and Romus to jump straight in to Galmland with no extra wait.

Pillars

Transform a Revolutionary State

Lead a young republic born from revolution and define the principles that will guide its future. Transform ideals into reality through reforms, institutions, and long-term development as you shape a new society from the ground up.

Rule Through Collective Power

Govern alongside a committee of comrades, each with their own ambitions, loyalties, and vision for the future. Build consensus, delegate authority, and manage internal rivalries to keep the government united.

Command a Planned Economy

Direct a living economic system where production, investment, and social policy are interconnected. Balance competing needs, allocate scarce resources, and guide national development through ambitious economic planning.

Survive the Struggle for Power

Navigate foreign influence as rival interests challenge your authority and test your commitment to the revolution. Sometimes the most dangerous counter-revolutionary forces within your borders may not be acting alone.

For Who and Why

Galmland is for Suzerain fans who enjoy leading a country. If Sordland and Rizia were the seats of power you wanted to return to, Galmland is the next major one with new challenges and new solutions.

It is also for players who want to govern a socialist state from the inside and find out whether a better society can be built, believed in, and held together, with the political pressure, personal drama, and systemic consequence that define Suzerain. We are continuing this product line because leading a country is the heart of what we do, and because players keep asking us for more of it.

Future Potential

And trust us, we heard some of the popular wishes of what future countries you are all interested in. We will see what we can do after Galmland and The Conformist is out! These experiences take time and significant effort to build, so just like it happened with Rizia, we will explore the future once we get there.

From all of us at Torpor Games. Thank you!

Torpor Games July-August 2026 Broadcast

Dear Citizens of the Suzerainverse,

Welcome to our July and August 2026 Broadcast. These two months marked a major step forward for The Conformist, with early development progressing across several areas. We began a new phase of exploration spanning concept art, music design, lore, and RPG-strategy systems.

We also have production updates on Suzerain Stories: The Neutral Lens, Wars of Suzerain, and the Socialist Republic of Galmland, alongside news on Chinese localization, continued live support for Suzerain, and photographs from the latest Conundrum LARP.

Announcements and Reception

In July, we finally revealed Suzerain Stories: The Neutral Lens, Wars of Suzerain, and Suzerain: Socialist Republic of Galmland. The response was bigger and broader than we expected.

The three official teasers have passed 215,000 views on YouTube combined. Wars of Suzerain accounts for around 140,000 of those, along with 6,200 likes. Our internal analytics make that even more interesting: around 80 percent of Wars viewers came from outside the existing Suzerain community. We are reaching strategy players who may never have encountered the Suzerain Universe before.

The community response has been just as fun to watch, and the reactions quickly produced everything from "MORNING HAS COME" and "OH BOY THREE CAKES" to people asking where the "ALL OF THEM" option was when choosing which project they were most excited about. Wars also started appearing independently in wider strategy communities, while community creators produced breakdowns of all three announcements that reached tens of thousands of viewers.

Thank you to everyone who watched, commented, filled out the survey, shared the announcements, made videos, argued about them, or immediately started theorizing about what comes next. July was the first time we showed how the Suzerain Universe could expand beyond a single kind of experience.

The Conformist Awarded German Federal Games Funding

We have been awarded €2.2 million through the German Federal Government's games funding programme for The Conformist. This funding supports the full production scale we envisioned for Torpor's second major flagship step.

The Conformist is a game about a fledgling democracy, political movements and the hope for a better future through elections. Players will walk the capital of Sordland in the 1930s, try to change the mind of the nation ahead of the coming elections and help lead a political campaign to victory. It is also the largest step Torpor Games has taken: a substantial 3D production with a semi-sandbox environment, a deeper RPG core and more room for strategic player expression than anything we have built before.

This is also a moment to recognize the people who have recently joined Torpor or strengthened the production.

  • Derek Patterson, Lead Producer, brings leadership experience from Ubisoft Berlin, CD Projekt Red and Rockstar Games, including work on Grand Theft Auto V and Cyberpunk 2077.
  • Brian Mitsoda, Senior Narrative Designer, has worked with Black Isle Studios, Troika Games and Obsidian Entertainment, with credits including Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, Alpha Protocol, Torment: Tides of Numenera and Dead State.
  • Jeffrey "Jeff" Ho Shengfan, Senior Systems Designer, joins with experience from Rovio, Zynga and King.
  • Maria Gröhler, Senior HR Administrator, joins from Finiata and Etermax.
  • Konstantin Dimitrov, Lead Artist, joins from Wooga.
  • Arda Cevik, Lead Programmer, joins from Arvis Games and Etermax.
  • Emily Damgali, Producer, joins from Wooga.
  • Tung Thanh Cao, Technical Designer, joins from Cloud Imperium Games, with experience on Star Citizen and Squadron 42.
  • Ryan Wilson, Lead Writer, joins from Zhejiang University and Dragonwell Creative.
  • Dala Klimek, Technical Artist, joins from Paintbucket Games and The Darkest Files.

Alongside many others across Torpor, they are helping us build the team needed for this next phase. The journey will not be easy or perfect. No serious game production at this ambition scale is. We will make it happen together. The Conformist dream is finally becoming real.

Development Update from Ata

July and August have been about turning the newly announced slate into concrete production steps. The projects have deliberately different shapes. Stories offers a focused character perspective, Wars puts systems first, Galmland returns to country management from a new ideological, material, and regional position, and The Conformist expands our RPG and spatial design ambitions.

Veins: Our Own Tools

A new piece of news that matters to every project above. Torpor is building its own tools and tech stack. Veins is our in-house narrative and systems database engine, the place where writers, designers and everyone else creating content author dialogue, decisions, variables and story logic for Suzerain, Stories, Galmland and now Wars and The Conformist.

The point of a bespoke tool is simple: it lets our developers make content better, easier, and faster, and it lets us level up the thing Torpor does best. Branching political narrative at our scale needs tooling built for it. Owning that stack is part of the studio maturing from a single game into a shared universe with several productions running at once.

The Conformist

The Conformist is at an early stage. The team is building the foundations needed for full production to kick off next year while continuing targeted exploration in visual direction, music and RPG design. What follows is exploration, not a feature list.

We have a new visual concept exploring how Holsord's streets could look after recent tech-art iterations. Internally, we are still developing the feel of daily life, campaign activity, and other environmental elements, which we will share once they are ready.

The aim is to make the capital feel inhabited, distinct from district to district, and politically contested, rather than serving only as a visual backdrop for quests.

The music exploration is moving in parallel. We are testing how the score can move between personal tension, public momentum and the uneasy optimism of a young democracy. The excerpt is exploratory and does not represent a final track.

On the RPG side, we are exploring potential skill checks and deeper character customization. The current design question is how a player's build can create different ways to persuade, investigate, improvise or endure pressure without turning every conversation into a simple pass-or-fail gate. A failed check should create a different route, cost or consequence rather than stop the story.

We are also examining how customization can affect access, preparation and the way people respond to the protagonist. The next step is to test which combinations create meaningful role-playing choices without adding complexity that does not earn its place.

Suzerain Stories: The Neutral Lens

For The Neutral Lens, the first internal playtest of the integrated milestone is underway. Earlier tests looked at individual content and system slices; this one evaluates the connected experience, pacing and consequences as a whole. Thank you to the playtesters who have shared their opinions and ideas so far. That feedback is already shaping the next pass.

The team is adding the last-turn content and epilogue endings so the full arc can be assessed from opening to conclusion. The correspondent system design is also advancing, including the ratings model and the way editorial decisions feed into professional and political consequences.

Portrait work for the full cast is finalized. The writing team has completed a further depth pass across the characters, strengthening motivations, contradictions, relationships and the pressure each person brings into the newsroom.

The coming weeks go into polishing and expanding the experience so that Ilias Moris's life as a television host lands with the weight it deserves.

Wars of Suzerain

Wars of Suzerain deliberately flips the usual Suzerain formula. The country campaigns are narrative-led experiences expressed through systems. Wars is a systems-led strategy game supported by characters and narrative branches. It contains less story by volume, but the story that is present must respond clearly to strategic decisions.

The team is working on naval boarding and invasion, new unit abilities, improvements to enemy movement visibility, and more satisfying sounds on unit interactions. New systems are being implemented and refined for a battlefield across land, sea and air, where the political and human implications of war act as forces in tension. Work on narrative branches continues in parallel, and the core cast of characters is now complete, giving the narrative team a stable foundation for those choices and consequences.

A large amount of design and engineering work has also gone into the map-creation pipeline. The upgraded pipeline is intended to make maps faster to build, easier to revise and more consistent to test as the strategic rules evolve. This work is less visible than a finished battlefield, but it determines how quickly the team can create and improve the campaigns that players will eventually command.

Galmland

Galmland's production groundwork is now largely in place, and an overall storyline outline has been developed. The team is now beginning to work on the first parts of the game and settling into new writing rhythms.

Writing began in August and we made some progress on our first key scenes. The team has already developed several politically sharp and fun ideas for Galmland's story, characters and the countries exact place in the Contanan Security Pact. We are also developing the new key features and storylines of the experience. These include district-based economic planning and execution, ministerial task delegation, and trade between the socialist bloc and foreign markets.

We will share the Galmland vision document in the future. It will explain the project's design direction and pillars, its role in the Suzerain Universe and the areas we want to explore in this DLC.

Suzerain Patch 3.1.0

Suzerain version 3.1.0 (build 186) is live on Android. The iOS release and the update for all other platforms follow shortly as one combined patch. The notes:

  • Updated the Android target API version to meet current Google Play Store requirements.
  • Performance and stability fixes through optimized memory usage, and more reliable saving with crash-safe writes.
  • Fixed multiple gameplay and UI issues.
  • Fixed character and dialogue reference issues.
  • A standardized spelling pass across parts of the game toward consistent American English.
  • Various bug fixes.

Chinese Localization Update

Work on Chinese localization continues through bugs, testing, and database updates. A full-time programmer joining the team is taking on part of the remaining localization tasks. The internal QA branch is making progress as the team verifies text behavior, fixes implementation issues, and checks the underlying data needed for a reliable release.

We are also reaching out to all volunteer localization teams with collaboration agreements. The goal is to establish a clearer shared framework for communication, responsibilities, attribution and the path from community work into an internally tested build.

There is more work ahead, and we are not announcing a release date in this broadcast. We will share further progress once the current QA and collaboration steps are complete enough to support a dependable update.

The Suzerain LARP Conundrum Happened

The latest Conundrum LARP by Not Great, Not Terrible has taken place, and the photographs are ready to share. The event once again brought Suzerain Universe's politics, costumes, and difficult choices into a physical space shaped by its organizers, performers, volunteers, and players.

FAQ - Questions from the Community

How large is Suzerain Stories: The Neutral Lens?

It is intentionally smaller than the Sordland or Rizia country campaigns. Stories is a bite-sized, character-led experience built to provide a fresh perspective rather than another full country-management campaign.

Can players change history in Stories?

Yes. Stories is designed to be flexible and open, and player choices can change historical outcomes within the experience.

Will save-game transfer work with Stories?

Save transfer will work in campaign country mode with compatible country campaigns and country DLCs. Stories mode is separate and will not use the country-campaign save-transfer chain.

Will mobile Lifetime Pass owners receive The Neutral Lens at no additional cost?

Yes. Mobile Lifetime Pass owners will receive Suzerain Stories: The Neutral Lens at no additional cost when it is released on mobile. The lifetime pass is primarily a support the devs pack and we thank our supporters!

Will mobile Lifetime Pass owners receive Galmland too?

Yes. Galmland will also be included for mobile Lifetime Pass owners when it is released on mobile.

Does the same answer apply to Wars of Suzerain?

This Lifetime Pass and save-transfer clarification concerns content released within Suzerain. Wars of Suzerain is a standalone and different game. Its platform and commercial details will be communicated separately.

That is all for July and August. Across the projects, the focus is moving from announcement into implementation: tests, writing, tools, systems, art, and sound that can be evaluated and improved.

Until next time, dear Citizens. Take care!

From what i know its god damn expensive. First building 5 budget and the further increase 7 budget. From what i can see especially in the late game authority maxes out a lot quicker then with the two expansions. Same goes for budget and energy.

Is there anything else it blocks me to do if i aint got the second upgrade?

Suzerain: Sordland Did They Make Gus Less Polite?

I watched from someone who followed the game back in 2023 who said he read messages from the devs. Apparently at least 3 of them expressed the opinion that Suzerain made Gus Manger give off a different impression to the players than they intended. The intention was that players think of him as fine normally but gets rude and abrasive when things go wrong. I didn't like that idea, but it wouldn't be unprecedented since they changed Kesaro Kibener a bit to make him more believable. I can see how someone like that with only 40 seats in the Assembly can get people on board with his bills if he frames things right.

In the release version game, Gus is always polite to Anton. If you don't do what he wants, he might not give the player an investment opportunity, but he is polite about it. Even if you pass the Worker's Rights Act (which somehow doesn't hurt Lorren economy so the Oligarchs are liars or the devs made a typo), he is cordial to Anton and continues to look for ways to improve agriculture like mechanisation. He does get pretty upset if Anton embargos Arcasia, but that doesn't just hurt him, there are also nasty side effects on Sordland's economy.

I went to check to see if this changed and... nothing. Gus is still polite not just to Anton, but also everyone else he talks with except if you push the big "destroy economy by embargo" button. He expresses displeasre politely to Anton. The biggest change I noticed wasn't the game itself but the epilogue. If you do Valken's dig in strategy things seem to go normal. If you do the pincer and it works, the military casualties are about 30 times as much as they used to. I can't seem to bring it to 5 digits anymore but this was possible before. I thought maybe they just left "Rude Gus" on the chopping block and was going to forget all about it, but one comment said "they did what you said they'd do." I wish I saved that link so I could show you I can't seem to find the video anymore.

Suzerain: Sordland Best military funding RP wise?

Well not only for the Rumburg war but for future Sordland too.

Gameplay wise none of them are totally ideal. It depends on what you ally and whether you do solo or with allies. Modernize fit for allied, expansion for solo. Air force for Valgsland alliance or solo, army for solo or no Agnolia or Wehlen alliance, and navy for Lespia alliance.

Stories: The Neutral Lens Do you think we will get this event in Neutral Lens

As much as Arcasia Prides itself on free speech, it does seem like the saying

"If you don't read the news you are uninformed and if you do read the news your misinformed"

Neutral Lens would most likely be a game of balancing news and your own survival

General Universe Why is suzerain so difficult?

I’ll give an example from the game’s main storyline: I’ve finished the game 4–5 times, following different paths each time—three of those attempts focused on liberal reforms, yet I never managed to succeed. I simply cannot get the reforms passed by the assembly. Furthermore, shaping my gameplay according to the reform guides found online ruins my enjoyment of the game. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Suzerain: Galmland Will Past historical events have a significant impact on the story of the Galmland DLC itself? From what I’ve heard, Galmland only gained independence from the Valgos Empire relatively recently. Long before that, the Valgish people had driven the Galmish people out of the island of Valgos itself.

I’ve heard that, according to the history of the Galmish people, a massive migration of Valgish people from the mainland to the island of Valgos took place a long time ago, creating tensions between the newcomers and the native Galmish population. The Valgish people eventually drove the native Galmish-speaking population southward on the island, into what became the Kingdom of Il Eryll and the Duchy of Éifne around the year 1000.

Map of during ancient era of Merkopa https://codex.torporgames.com/maps-of-merkopan-history

From what I’ve heard and read on the Torpor Games website, the Galmish people who lived on the island of Valgos were the first true victims of Valgish supremacy. They were utterly devastated and subjected to genocide, both through direct killings and systematic discrimination by the Valgish people themselves, to the point that they eventually became extinct. This was the first great trauma and the original sin of the Valgish people, marking the beginning of their era of grand imperialism.

Then came another phase during the Valgos Empire era, when both the Kingdom of Galmoch and the Kingdom of Holmoch were conquered by the Valgs in the 1400s and incorporated into the Valgos Empire. This was the Valgs’ second major sin, and arguably their greatest crime against the Galmish people. It marked a point of no return for Valgish imperialism, beginning a long period in which both Galmish kingdoms fell under Valgish rule and endured roughly 320 years of humiliation.

It was only relatively recently, around the 1920s, that Galmland finally gained independence from the Valgs. The Valgish monarchy was overthrown in a coup and revolution led by Malenyevist revolutionaries under Wilhelm Ulbrik. This revolution paved the way for both islands to gain independence and establish the Republic of Galmland in 1920.

The game is officially set in 1948, meaning that Galmland has been independent for only 28 years. Given its long history of subjugation under the Valgos Empire, the historical trauma and wounds of the Galmish people are likely still very fresh. In fact, I would argue that these wounds could run even deeper than the trauma caused by the Sordish Civil War, considering the centuries of humiliation and suffering that Galmland endured under Valgish rule.

I’ve also heard that, despite both countries belonging to the CSP, tensions between Galmland and Valgland remain as explosive as a volcano. Valgland still retains control over the islands of Ejker, Fejker, and Sijil, which makes Galmland furious because it considers them part of its own maritime territory in the south.

An unresolved problem that we likely got exploded during 1948

This is why I have a theory that historical events will play a huge role in the Galmland DLC, and why we need to be very careful with our decisions. We can't afford to become too openly pro-Valgsland or too supportive of Hegel, or we risk being seen as nothing more than Valgsland's lapdogs and bootlickers. Our political opponents could use this against us to undermine our leadership and destroy our chances of remaining in power.

For players who want to pursue peace, I think we will need to handle the situation carefully and maintain friendly relations with as many countries as possible. We have to remember that Galmland likely has a much smaller population than Valgsland, which has an estimated population of 63 million people. If a war breaks out between Galmland and Valgsland, we will probably be at a significant disadvantage.

At the same time, I think this could be a lot of fun for players who enjoy creating chaos and political havoc, just as we can do in the Sordland scenario when dealing with Rumburg. There could be various ways to outmaneuver Valgsland, from forming military alliances and sabotaging its international reputation at A.N. meetings to pretending to be a peaceful nation during news interviews while secretly working against its interests.

Nationalism could also be a double-edged sword in our gameplay, offering both advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand, we could exploit historical grievances and nationalist sentiment to rally public support. By shifting the blame for Galmland's problems onto Valgsland and Hegel, we could portray them as enemies of the Galmish people and encourage political factions across the ideological spectrum to unite behind the principle of "Galmland First." This could potentially boost our popularity and strengthen our political position, although it could also escalate tensions and create new diplomatic problems.

Anyway, that's just my theory based on what I've read about Galmland's history and its relationship with Valgsland. I'm really curious to see how Torpor Games will incorporate these historical grievances into the Galmland DLC and how much our decisions will be influenced by the past.

Thanks for taking the time to read my thoughts! I'd love to hear what you all think. Do you agree that Galmland's historical trauma and its complicated relationship with Valgsland will play a major role in the DLC, or do you think things will turn out differently? Feel free to share your theories and opinions in the comments. I'd love to hear other people's perspectives and discuss them with you!

Suzerain: Rizia Rumburg, the Azaros, & the War

I don’t usually play war runs but I decided to give it a shot and I have so many questions! The guides I was able to find online for the conflict are pretty lackluster so I am also looking to fill in the blanks left behind. My questions:
[Warning, this is pretty much all spoilers]
After the first operation went well, Beatrice offered to broker a ceasefire, I said no. What would have happened if I had said yes? I know Rumburg’s direct involvement in the war in the epilogue leads to a bloody disaster of a war, but would it have been different if they brokered the ceasefire? Could I have gotten out of the conflict as a victor, and just seize more land in the ceasefire negotiations?

Secondly, I wanted to launch a coup against the other houses to seize more power. However, I thought it through and realized I am relying on the Azaros in the war heavily, and I couldn’t find online if purging them would hurt my war efforts. I let the Azaros survive for the sake of the war, and just wiped out the Sazons. I got overthrown by Adarfo before I could see how that ended, but I think the Azaros probably would have couped me. My question is does killing the Azaros hurt the war effort? They are a clear threat but also useful in war.

Thanks everyone for the help in advance!

Suzerain: Sordland Presidential Pardons?

Whether or not the President of Sordland can pardon people is kind of vague. There are a few instances in the game where it’s said you’ve commuted sentences or given amnesty, but those are tied to decrees and if you require an enabling act they can be blocked. Meanwhile Rayne can and does order the arrest of several people even without the SSP. So what’s the status on pardons in Sordland? Is it the assembly’s discretion or are they tied to the unreformed decree powers?

Suzerain: Rizia Two questions regarding the Rizia campaign

Let’s say I want to bring Angelica Sazon back from exile. At the same time, I plan to centralize the country during my reforms. As I understand it, the Azaros will accept such a reform if I marry into the mountain of Montaklar and name my son the heir. But how can I ensure the loyalty of the Sazons in this scenario? Is it even possible? Since they won’t get Zille or Iza back (which would be pointless under centralization), can I leverage the fact that Angelica is a traditionalist (I don’t intend to strip the King of real power anyway) or simply rely on the act of pardoning her?

This leads to my second question: how do I get Vina to accept the change of heir? I’ve read that being a good father and maintaining perfect relations with her is key—is that truly enough on its own, or are additional actions required? Is this possible if I marry Axel (to annex Pales peacefully) without forcing Vina, but rather by gently nudging her toward it?

Suzerain: Rizia How to turn Vina based?

Is there any way to make her forget her liberal nonsense and support the centralizing absolutism that Rizia needs? Can I send her off to war so she becomes a respectable woman? Will executing her twink boyfriend make her change her mind?
