I’m pleased to see Kuryu Matsuki making an impact for Saints. His goal against Norwich might not have been the prettiest finish, but those are exactly the moments that win difficult away games. Personally, I like the energy he brings to the team, and I hope this gives him more confidence going forward. Southampton need players who can step up when a match is tight instead of relying on one or two regular goalscorers to do everything. It’s still early in the season, but performances like this can help a player earn a bigger role. Would you like to see Matsuki getting more starts for Saints?

No one made one ?

Just for a bit of fun.

Last season, 4th April 2026, the day Saints beat Arsenal was also StPoopey Day, the day where Pompey can not mathematically catch Saints.

What date do we think next year…?

Not sure if it’s been posted on here, but Mayuka did this podcast and spoke a little about his time with Saints. Starts at about 10 minutes in.

Sunday was a fantastic day for the club and I thought one of the better atmospheres at St Mary's in a long time.

That said, one thing I don't understand is why the club has started to play music unbelievably loud in the 10 minute period before kick off and after full-time, which ends up having a detrimental effect on the atmosphere.

I'm all for a song played on full-time, but why not turn it down a bit when the players come over to celebrate in front of the Northam? In big games gone by, there would have been one hell of an OWTS in front of the players, but the music drowned out any chances of that. Likewise before kick off when the atmosphere should have been building, there wasn't a chance of hearing the person next to you let alone getting the atmosphere going.

Am I just being a grumpy old man or has anyone else picked up on this?

We started on minus four points, but the club has made it clear that promotion is the aim. Is steady progress and a clear identity enough, or does this season have to end in automatic promotion or at least the play-offs?

I didn't know much about Schlotterbeck before he joined, but he's been class so far. He was immense against Pompey, and he looks really composed alongside Stephens. He won all four of his aerial duels, made some massive blocks and clearances. What I like most is that he seems to bring a bit of calm to the back line when things get frantic.

A rather enjoyable episode to record this week!

We've spent a good chunk of TSP 396 discussing Sunday's 1-0 victory over Portsmouth, which finally ends the wait for a league derby win.

Plenty to get into, particularly with the way it unfolded.

We discuss the unusual starting formation, Cam Bragg's red card, Finn Azaz's brilliant pass for James Bree's winner and the defensive performance that saw Saints hold on with ten men.

There's also a fair bit of debate about how much credit Saints deserve for the second half versus how poor Pompey were going forward.

Away from the derby, Alfie takes us through the FA's findings in the Tonda Eckert investigation. It's an interesting discussion, particularly around what the commission actually concluded and whether a new contract might now follow.

We also preview Wednesday's trip to Norwich with Adam Harvey from the Pink Un, looking at their difficult start to the season and what Saints might need to do to get a first away win.

As always, interested to hear what everyone thinks.

Does Sunday's result feel like a genuine turning point, or was it simply a brilliant derby win against a poor Portsmouth side?

Cheers!

First clean sheet of the season, they couldn't even beat us with 10 men

We would’ve been above West Ham!

Unexpected surprise hearing that today but feel it worked quite well. Would have preferred music to be turned off 15 mins before kick off too but can’t have everything. Up the saints.

Couldn't see this posted anywhere yet

Is there a pay per view for today’s game? I can’t lie I usually live stream through a dodgy site but would like to see Flynn Downes break some legs in HD today.

Where is best to buy the game? I have a VPN as well
