Hey, digging through threads, I’m trying to create read-around-the-world tours. (E.g.,., Julia’s top seven favorite books from seven different continents, or Mario’s tour to visit every country in South America). What is your personal list 3+ of your favorite books that take you away from home (w/out leaving home) and are set in a new place? Ideally historical fiction/fiction/nonfiction—books to learn and “travel” to countries.
I’m working on a website to catalogue people’s favorite books and let users make a literary atlas: www.booknomads.com . Feel free to check it out and build your own literary atlas—or heck, add your tour there! The tour page is very skinny, ideally I get perspectives from all over the place!

I’m not a rereader, but this trilogy is the one major exception. I’ve reread it over 10 times, and whenever I do, I still go to bed excited to keep reading the next day. I read a lot, but no other books have consistently brought me this much joy.
I’m talking about the Darkest Powers trilogy by Kelley Armstrong.
It’s a great blend of horror, paranormal mystery, and light sci-fi, with an incredible slow-burn romance. It’s technically YA, but I’m now well past the target age range and still love it just as much. I think other adult readers would, too!
Spoiler-free premise:
The Summoning begins with a teenage girl who suddenly starts seeing ghosts. She’s sent to a group home for troubled teens and given a mental health diagnosis that seems to explain away what she’s experiencing. But as she gets to know the other residents, she realizes their diagnoses might not tell the whole story, either. What follows is a supernatural thriller with an interesting cast who develop a found-family dynamic.
Then there’s the romance subplot. Two characters go from being wary of each other to building a friendship and eventually something deeper as they go through difficult experiences together. It’s genuinely my favorite romantic relationship in any book. I love how naturally it develops through trust and getting to know each other, with no obvious early hints that romance is even on the table. (I hate when books do that!)
I’m so excited that the trilogy was recently reprinted with new covers and sprayed edges, and I hope the new editions help it find a whole new audience.
If you enjoy stories about the paranormal, found family, and a really good slow-burn or hate-to-love romance, please give these books a chance! They’ve been special to me for over 15 years, and I’d love for someone else to discover a new favorite through this post.

Horror or horror comedy. Either works. Tonight, we were reading a really bad collection called Twisted Tales to Tell in the Night, an homage to Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. It's meant to be like that for adults but the tone was all over the place and many of the stories were pretty bad. Fun bad, I guess, but still bad. We had fun shitting on them but we want better than that.
P.S. I'm sorry if anyone involved in making that book reads this post.

I’m looking for something short, well-written, and genuinely engaging. Something that grabs your attention from the beginning and makes you want to keep reading. I don’t want to read an entire page describing the sky, the scenery, or what a room looks like 😭😂. I want good writing that gets to the point without sacrificing depth.
Any genre is welcome! What’s a short book you couldn’t put down?

I’m looking for human opinion on books similar to the Clive Custer/Dirk Pitt genre. Light, adventure, and entertaining fictional work.

Hope this is allowed!
I've been reading a book that hasn't really gotten my attention. It keeps beating around the bush and I'm just not feeling it. However I kind of feel an obligation to finish it and that made me wonder. Do you guys finish the books that couldn't fully peak your interest or do you let them go halfway? Why?

Most books from this time period end in a happily ever after or an ending that ruins the book for me, im looking for something that's gonna stick with me and make me think of the ending long after I read it. Usually good characters get rewarded (ie. Jizebels daughter) but maybe I wanna see something raw at the end b

Can any of u suggest a book that is interesting enough to read but not so complicated that i will not be able to follow the story.
I have been wanting to reduce my screentime and replacing some of my passive entertainment with reading books, also english is not my first language so i think reading books will improve my vocabulary and grammer.

I haven't really been able to get into reading for years, but I kinda want to give it another shot. I remember really enjoying Turtles All the Way Down by John Green so I thought I would love to ask here for recommendations.
I am not picky about genres tbh. I just want something that will get me hooked and make me want to keep reading instead of putting the book down after a few pages.. probably books that got you back into reading as well.
