My favourite type of content of the last few weeks is when someone buy Dressmaker for their wife initially but then they also try the game and they get absolutely hooked on it.
I’ve seen someone say the reason men will play the game and enjoy it is comparable to when you have a game like for example Dark Souls and you eventually have people calling it Fashion Souls or the amount of effort someone puts in to dress up their character in an MMO.
I didn't know dark souls had a fashion side, cute!! I genuinely never knew that.
I personally play a lot of cyberpunk2077 and while yes, I have beaten the game several times on different difficulties, sometimes I just wanna play dress up and take pics lmaoooo
It gets to the point in dark souls that people will forego equipment with better stats because it doesn't look good with the rest of their gear. There have also always been some people who name their characters "fashion police" and invade other people's worlds just to inspect their drip. If they pass the inspection they get a round of applause or a positive gesture. Maybe even some bits of rare items. If they fail the "police" will either drop gear that will make the set look better, or just outright attack them for their crimes against fashion. It's always a good time when you see " Invaded by fashion police" pop up lol.
There are some pretty funny videos on YouTube with them. Just search "fashion police elden ring" or "fashion police dark souls" and a bunch of them pop up.
I'm so lazy when it comes to fashion ahah, I tend to just find that one good set that follows my taste and stick to it for 500h. Occasionally do some changes here and there if they add a piece I like, but it usually stays within the same style often.
I have several different sets depending on my weapon like I have my ice-weapon fit, my paralysis weapon fit, my main charge-blade fit... and I've been gathering inspiration for some layered armor sets. My palico has his own fashion but I'm sticking with spooky cat for October.
I can definitely see it. It's the same in milsim games like ARMA too. People will spend ages selecting and customizing their uniform/guns then leave the outpost just to get sniped in 5 minutes by a guy hiding in a bush.
Spent a couple hours with one of my best dude friends making dresses together last night. We were both like, “I can’t believe we are still playing this, why is it so fun?!”
I love getting my male friends hooked on 'feminine' games because they're genuinely so fun. There's such a stigma about 'feminine' games, especially fashion ones, and for what? Some of the top fashion designers are men.
Watching my buddy lock tf in to make a gorgeous dress, then use loads of buttons to put a cool s on the bodice, was a thing of beauty.
It's so classy. And with the lace, it'd also be super breezy, so she wouldn't get too warm while running across the misty moors (I'm assuming Alice, though I could be wrong). Nice work, man.
I saw a gameplay video and initially thought, "Oh, I should see if my wife would like that," because she loves all kinds of fabric/textile arts, but after watching the video, I'll probably end up getting it for myself when it goes on sale.
Historically it is, nearly everyone had to know how to sow since not being able to meant you wore clothes with holes everywhere, unlike today where most people throw clothes out with a few millimeter holes
Cloth weaving was the 2nd largest industry for most of human history, just after farming. Everyone did it. Ship sails took an absurd number of hours to create. From farming the raw material, to spinning it into thread, to weaving that thread into sails, it could take tens of thousands of total hours of effort for a single sail.
Sometimes I think about that old spanish naval flag, that bitch is absolutely humongous. I wonder how many hours of work that one took, including the pigment making.
It's great. You can spend as much or little time on any dress as you'd like. And you can hop in/out of the game without it mattering much in terms of story or game play.
Have a friend in the coach industry who not only loves the coach and bus simulators, actively sought out mods that let him drive areas in the UK that he drives on a daily basis
We politely refer to him as a bus wanker, and he politely agrees!
No one driving buses is on time, the traffic is just god awful
Some other fun points, he bought a Dart bus and converted it into his own RV, and has a Smart two seater car spray painted like one of those kids garden toys
There was an autistic man who used to impersonate bus drivers, and other public transportation drivers. He was remarkable, because he ran the routes with precision and on time. He even sometimes did minor repairs on the vehicles.
I think you're talking about Darius McCollum. It's actually kind of a fucked up story. The transit authority wound up pressing charges for theft because he kept "stealing" buses and he wound up in prison. He's apparently been moved to a psychiatric facility, so he doesn't have to be around violent criminals anymore, but he's still being deprived of his freedom because we (society) couldn't figure out a productive way to channel his talents.
Yep, same. From what I understand, the fantasy is "owning" and playing with tractors and equipment you'd never need or wouldn't be able to afford (shit's expensive), since a lot of the models are officially licensed from the brands.
It's so nice being able to simply place a shed down without needing a three year consent battle with the neighbours, or to press a button and your implement just pops onto your linkage as opposed to the ten minutes of inching back and forth trying to find just the right spot to hook it -_-
I've been following the sub for about a decade now, and I can tell you that's definitely not the case, they love those games lol. The sheer amount of photos I've seen of a trucker playing a truck game while pulled into a truck stop in their truck was staggering.
but snow runner? I can absolutely imagine a trucker taking a break after driving on the highway for hours and hours to go ham on a crazy route he could never do at work.
I like the game, but as someone who has sewn for years, it drives me crazy in the SAME WAY real sewing does. Every time I have to get to the cutting the fabric part, aligning the patterns, I’m just like 😩 the WORST.
And then I start a new dress. 😂
It sort of scratches the itch when you haven’t sewn in a while, as well as like,,, that itch to make something impractical you’d never wear. Esp with Joann’s out of business and no real local shops to just browse fabric now, so when you want to make something it has to be INTENTIONAL. I can’t just go into the shop during sales and decide to make something. 😢
Well making your own clothes can be kind of expensive in real life with the fabric and patterns. I can see how it's fun to play around with this stuff without any of that concern and just get creative. Maybe even come up with some ideas for real life.
Men, too. Not myself, but I've been seeing YouTubers playing it a lot. Not my cup of tea, but it does look interesting. It could help me when I inevitably want to make my own cosplay outfits.
It’s one of my favorite games I’ve played lately. The first time I played it I played for almost 7 hours straight. The main campaign is quite short though, but it has a whole lot of replayability. There’s a surprising amount of mods too
As a woman that plays games and also sews, I was hyped when I first saw gameplay because I thought it would have pattern drafting, but noooo. I’ll still probably get the game though haha.

Is this Dressmaker ? It has been quite the hit among women.
