News/Article AI was supposed to sell PCs. Instead, PC shipments just crashed 20% as AI eats the world’s RAM, and Windows 11’s Copilot agents aren’t convincing buyers

Those AI companies can spend all that money on hardware they want, but if we keep buying(even if we are 5% of their sales) and participate in their bullshit. Nothing changes. Go ahead and pay the %300 premium for 3 more fps in 4k because of your fomo.

I hate this situation too, but seriously what is the alternative? Prices will never go back down because there is always demand, you kinda have to bite your lips and quietly pay

Make a sacrifice, my world doesn't revolve around gaming anymore, because I refuse to participate in this bullshit, my PC is 3 years old, my laptop 5, and they both do plenty enough in my life. I'd rather play Skyrim on my PC until the day it dies than pay 5k for a graphics card that is only marginally better than the last generation.

Wdym make a sacrifice? You buying or not buying wouldn’t make any difference in market

Of course only me making the sacrifice won't make a difference if fomo chuds keep buying, and I'm not gonna jump on the bandwagon of "needing" a graphics card that is pushing 5 figures to play an unoptimized video game. We all, as a whole, need to make a sacrifice including not buying unoptimized video games, before something changes.

If I get lost to the ether because I refuse to partake in the piss poor economics of PC gaming, so be it. You can continue dropping your hard earned cash into the hands of billionaires for ai filters because a gaming company can't pull better than 35 fps at 4k on the most advanced card available.

Boycotting video games is a completely different subject, and in that area, it might work if a whole community cooperated (which is already a stretch, imagine telling Fifa players not to buy newest football game)

Boycotting Hardware manufacturers will never work, the Ram for example, consumer PC Ram is only 10% of the production, rest are phone, AI data centers, etc, not to mention in that %10 not everyone is a gamer or in community to help the “Boycott”

Micron pulled out of consumer PCs to switch to AI for a reason, that 10% is not much and it’s not even that profitable

Manufacturers absolutely care about that 10%, you'd think they'd be just happy to give that up? Even if it shrinks to 5% that's enough of a loss of revenue for any business to make changes. But if there is no change to that 10% they will make no changes otherwise.

Heh, you either don’t understand corporations, or economics, or both

Hardware companies such as Nvidia, Kingston or Samsung do not need you to buy Ram from them, Micron already proved that by completely switching their production to AI

They do not need some whiney A$$ buying two Ram to shove it into their PC to play games in bedroom when these companies are selling hundreds of thousands of Rams to AI data centers

The whole AI thing requires all our participation, if we continue engaging in it, that includes buying the hardware for it, you keep the status quo. Until sacrifices are made nothing changes. By all means keep paying big bills for hardware, I'm done with this shit, bow down to your AI overlords and keep giving them your money.

You are talking as if im the one who caused all the hardware price increase, im talking trying to explain why a hardware boycott wouldn’t work

I game on a mid range laptop i bought way before Ramapocalypse, and it’s not like i can afford to buy anything else either since im from a poorer country struggling with inflation and such

All i am trying to tell is be realistic, like boycotting can work in some places maybe boycotting a restaurant or a movie company or even a game developer company, but it definitely won’t work on Hardware manufacturers or AI data centers

Hardware manufacturers will always have huge customers for AI data center, and the AI itself will always have demands from companies and governments for surveillance for example
