Yeah I'm confused what they think Nintendo did. It would be funnier if they just had Nintendo playing that shitty plastic ocarina from the Legend of Zelda direct as they don't actually compete with steam and just are doing their own thing.

Because "Nintendo Bad" to people regardless of context.

Tbf Nintendo was the one that debuted $80 as a standard game price

The funny thing, thanks to Mario Tennis no other game has been really 80 dollars. Hell, MKW was 50 dolars with the console and Fire Emblem can be bought at 60 dollars with a banana

Mario Tennis was $70, but yeah probably still overpriced.  You could also get Fire Emblem for $70 even without the weird banana thing by preordering or buying Digital.

It really seems like Nintendo has been throwing options at the wall to see what people will pay for new games and enhanced Switch games so far.  I like the $10 discount for buying Digital, even though I prefer Physical, because it's forcing Walmart and Amazon to price match Physical copies with it

What's this about the fire emblem thing?

A bug of Walmart I think, FireEmblem was a discount if you preordered, but if you buyed something else it still aplied the discount even at release, so people started buying a single banana

The boxes of my dad’s Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG SNES games are tagged at $80. Inflation is a thing and 1995 dollars are worth more than 2026 dollars. Nintendo sells you a physical cartridge for $80 and for the titles I looked at, they’re cheaper if you buy a digital copy from the eShop instead. The reality is, cartridges are way more expensive to manufacture than discs but they also last much longer and are excellent media for game preservation as is.

Yeah can't say that is my favorite thing but it isn't actually harming them if the 15million copies of Mariocart world sold are any indication.

Nintendo are the one company that can get away with charging more than anyone else because they have such a die hard fanbase.

Their fanbase at this point are like Disney fanatics that don't care what they're paying.

The most avid Nintendo fans like physical media and merch. Nintendo knows this so they have Amiibos and physical cartridges. Cartridges are a lot more expensive to manufacture than discs so economically, it makes sense for cartridges to sell for more but then Nintendo will happily sell you a digital copy for cheaper on the eShop, too. My dad is a Nintendo fanboy. He doesn’t mind paying $80 for a Switch 2 game because that’s how much he paid for his games like Chrono Trigger in 1995 so an $80 Switch 2 game is actually cheaper when properly adjusted for inflation.

Nah, Rockstar is the same. Something like 80% of GTA6 sales are the $100 version.

Also, if a parent knows next to nothing about gaming but wants to buy their kid a console, they will buy a Switch 2 and pay $80 for a years old game without a second thought.

There hasn't been an $80 1st party Switch 2 game yet that didn't have a cheaper option.  You could get Fire Emblem for $70 by preordering from Walmart or Amazon, or buying Digital.  MKW was $50 when bundled with the system.

It is just where the gaming market are heading anyway. People had been speculate GTA6 to be around that much for years already.

Maybe not, control resonant is selling for $60 new.

Expedition 33 sold for $50.

New games pricing seems to vary a lot more.

Same goes for Nintendo. Some new Switch 2 games have launched at $40, $50, etc.

3rd party switch games prices have always varied, Nintendo doesn't set the price for those.

1st party Switch 2 games have variable pricing.  They've been $50-80 depending on the game, and $10 cheaper for digital since earlier this year.

RDR2 released at $100 for the complete game. They only get forgotten about because they also released an incomplete version for $60, and too many people will ignore the fact that it was incomplete because they liked it.

Might be because switch 2 is digital only which means no more cheap games as they don't do sales like steam does so everything is just more expensive. You have to pay for Nintendo online and a lot of their bigger titles are criminally short for the price.
