Is it going into games? Or into the OS?

article states ftp games as initial target.

Habituate consumers to the bullshit there, then slam it into the OS sounds like a Microsoft move.

most pc f2p games are already such garbage that if a kid of mine touches it I'll have a post-partum abortion

Avoid prison and just turn them to the good stuff the ftp game is aping poorly.

Even then, free means easy access, which is immediately enticing to young audiences with limited means or knowledge.

Imagine a roblox popularity ftp implementing this.  Entire generation of gamers ready to accept this kind of garbage in a game played in their free time: if that level of invasion is accepted it's absolutely migrating to the OS side after.

The question in FTP-land is, do you prefer ads or gacha mechanics or pay-to-win? The developers need to get paid somehow...

I'd prefer the ftp market just go under, even if they've already opened Pandora's box.

Those options are on their face predatory and abusive.  They've served as the vanguard in normalizing terrible business practices where other non-ftp studios are now comfortable including those same predatory or abusive (up to designed addictive systems) using that same PR slop of:  "studio needs money".

They've normalized getting people hooked to addiction fostering systems rather than to genuinely good games/gameplay, and lowered the bar for the entire medium.  In pursuit of profits.

Fair point. The AAA games are doing the same things.

Either way, people will hard boicott it. No way people will ever accept such heresy
