A tool that allows you to efficiently replicate an action. It's usually used in manufacturing.

For example IKEA flat-pack furniture would be made using a drilling template rather than individual measuring where the holes need to be on each piece of wood

Usually a specialized tool you make yourself to do something. You can buy them but when it comes to things like woodworking, making your own jigs for table saws, routers, whatever, is part of the skill building process. When I was first getting into it, people would ask me what things I had built. Jigs. Lots of jigs.
