I’m up on Wai’awa Prision Road and this dog just came wandering out of the bushes. He’s in rough shape and is favoring one of his back legs. I’ve given him some food but am unsure if I’ll be able to get him in my vehicle or where to bring him.

Any middle aged BMX riders?

Rode a TON as a kid, but was always stuck on garbage bikes. Fast forward 25 years, I'm a grown adult with a paycheck and free will - so I picked up a beater BMX bike to relearn the basics.

Would anyone be willing to let me pedal around with them one evening and critique what on earth I'm doing wrong with my form? Went from hopping across parking spots to barely getting both wheels off the ground haha. Will provide shitty jokes and make you feel way better about your riding abilities.

Where on island to get a good affordable men’s haircut

Just moved over from big island and looking for a stylist/dresser that can cut wavy/curly hair that isn’t crazy expensive. Doesn’t even have to be cheap either I just don’t want to spend 70+ on a haircut

Anyone got a good local barber they can put me on?

Breakfast near Skyline?

What's a good breakfast spot accessible from Skyline rail? I'm dropping my car off for service near the airport and plan to hop aboard then find something to eat while I wait.

Ka’ena Point

We live here and used to enjoy walking the Ka’ena Point trail from the west side (because we live over here) but we haven’t been since the Kona lows in early 2026. Drove out one time and saw the parking area closed due to erosion. Anyone know can you still walk out the trail or is it pretty much impossible now?

Looking to pay someone who sews for a couple of beginner lessons (west side/Makaha)

Hi everyone!

I’m looking to hire someone on the West Side who knows how to sew to give me one or two basic lessons.** **I am a complete beginner and do not own a sewing machine yet.

My goals are simple: I really just want to learn the absolute fundamentals, like how to set up the machine, thread it, adjust settings, and sew basic straight lines. I want to do a couple of introductory sessions to see if sewing is something I’ll actually stick with, and to learn enough of the basics so that I know what to look for when I do buy a machine. So, I need to learn from someone who doesn’t mind me practicing in their machine for our first session or two.

I don't care if you're a formal instructor or just a passionate hobbyist with a decent amount of experience! If you know your way around a sewing machine, you're qualified.

I live on the West Side (Makaha area). I am happy to pay a fair hourly rate for your time and knowledge. We can figure out a setup that works best, whether that's meeting locally or whatever is most convenient.

If you're interested, please shoot me a message with your rates and general availability.

Thank you!

Trip Report

10 day vacation with 8 full days in Oahu. Had great weather everyday except Wednesday night where it rained very hard for several hours where some streets got flooded.

The Good

  • Laylow Hotel - great location. Beds too soft - had to switch to a room that had a day bed which is firmer. Stay on the side opposite the pool otherwise it is noisy.
  • Hanauma Bay - Roberts Tour was cheap and vey convenient. Nice beach.
  • Kailua Beach - another nice beach on the leeward side. Took theBus $3 about an hour.
  • Waikiki Beach - another nice beach with beautiful views. Sunset was gorgeous.
  • Pearl Harbor - nice tour - make sure you make reservation. Took theBus $3 from Waikiki.
  • North Shore - convenient ENoa shuttle only $10.
  • Matsumoto Shaved Ice - North Shore
  • TheBus - convenient and cheap. Got the Holo cards before the trip. Easy to add money online.
  • Lam's - great food in Chinatown.
  • Diamond Head - nice hike beautiful views. Make sure to get early reservation. Took the Bus.
  • Paia - food is good. Liked the fish tacos. Had the mahi mahi sauteed which was not so good. Should has went with something blackened.
  • MOSA! Ice Cream
  • Bishop Museum - interesting museum. Good for a rainy day.

The Bad

  • Marugame Udon - had 2 meals. One was ok. The 2nd meal was pretty bad - didn't feel good luckily didn't get sick.
  • Traffic - Honolulu traffic is brutal. Just to get to the H1 is a challenge. That is one reason I did not rent a car. You need to budget travel time into any itinerary.
  • Waikiki Aquarium - very very small. Few exhibits. Hard skip.
  • Lots of very pricy restaurants in Waikiki. Example Taormina $50 spagehtti. Wish I found other restaurants the had tasty food that weren't crazy priced.
  • Makua Banana Bread  Haleiwa - why the hype? $12 for a super soggy small bread loaf. Threw it in the garbage.

Cheers.

Too Many Deady Cars

Oʻahu sees fatal hit-and-runs and crashes as holidays loom https://share.google/WuN1ij9trIqZDYLro

You could wave a magic wand and vanish 2/3rd of the cars, and especially those ugly useless lifted trucks.....

And there would still be faaaarr too many cars on this island.

More trains.

More fast frequent free busses 24/7 /365

More seperated protected connected active transportation infrastructure

More car-free, pedestrian only, spaces, especially in retail, school, residential areas.

Legal Firepits in Oahu

Hello!

My group of friends and I, 14 of us is making our group trip to Hawaii this year. We were planning on doing an evening on the beach around 8 pm to 10 pm for a little bonfire/smores. We're staying at a hotel in downtown Honolulu, but we'll have cars, so don't mind going anywhere 15-20 mins away.

I'm wondering which beaches have a large number of legal firepits for public use? Or a beach where I would most likely find an open fire pit at this hour? We are planning on either doing a bonfire on saturday/sunday.

Thanks you!

Rehoming my father’s cat

Post image
128 Upvotes

UPDATE: Kitty has found a home - thanks to everyone who expressed interest or tried to help. 🩷

Hi everyone! I’m here visiting my elderly father who was just placed in a care home.

He has a very sweet, friendly tortoiseshell cat (female) who urgently needs a home. I’m taking care of her the next few days, but unfortunately I’m flying out on Tuesday night and there will be no one to care for her afterwards.

I’ve tried contacting several shelters but they’re either full or not scheduling intake appointments until January.

does anyone have any suggestions? Anyone interested in this sweet baby? Please comment or DM me.

edit: I’m willing to purchase food/litter & box/supplies to get you started. I don’t think she has received regular vet care due to my father’s condition. Unsure of age.

Is there anything to do besides beach, bars, and hikes?

Been here a while and we’ve been to the beaches, been on the hikes, and are bored with the bars.

Is there anything to do? Like can we go somewhere and pay for an experience of some kind? We make our own fun but we’ve just set a week aside to do things here on island.

We’ve got:
the botanical garden
Pumpkin Patch
Cirque du soleil
Dole plantation

Edit: grammar

I have been playing electric guitar about 3+ years. I’m self taught. I’d like to find some people to jam with to improve my playing skills.
