The end of American History X really got me. But that lesson to not hold onto anger and be willing to change for the better really helped me grow as a person. “Hate is baggage, life’s too short to be pissed off all the time. It’s just not worth it”

I physically cannot watch that movie. I get that it is supposed to be disgusting. I understand the message, and the necessary brutality. And I get that in reality, I'm watching actors who walk off set with their bodies uninjured. But jesus christ on buttered toast, I just can't watch it.

It’s a film you really only need to see once

During these times I disagree, although I would disagree anyways. The movies story has many important lessons to be learned, and although hard to watch these aren’t things we are far from especially now.

It's so tragic that he learns that lesson and dies the next day.

You know what really gets to me in that film? When he clears his room of all the Nazi iconography and by the time he’s finished there’s just nothing left. All he had was hate but then he made room for more important things.

I watched that movie when i was 15-16.. When I go thru something bad.. those words come up in my head, that life is just too short for hatred and anger.

That quote always stuck with me as well

I knew a couple racists who loved that movie. Still baffles me 10-15 years later how they could watch that and not get the message.

Because the ending makes them feel validated.

The released ending was sad enough, but the story-boarded alternative ending with Ed Norton shaving his head again as the last scene after his brother's murder would have shattered me.

I can imagine it well enough in my head to feel the last ray of hope snuffed out.

I hadn’t heard of that ending before. That would have changed the whole tone of the ending in a way darker way

I always wondered what an Edward Norton James Cameron team up would look like as they're both people who alienate and piss off everyone else in their pursuit of art. My guess is they tear each other apart, but I bet we'd get a really interesting movie out of it.

One of my all time favorite movies even though it is understandably hard to watch. Very impactful and I definitely shed tears.
