comment on my jump form
Hi guys, I am trying to improve my jumps. Very recently i realized that “standing to the jump” is not taking advantage of the whole jump, like the rear wheel jumps before the lip. Could you give me some tips based on the video? Thanks!!

I've been building this map of all the best mountain bike locations in the US and Canada that are worth travelling for. This is to help me planning out riding trips. I'm focused on identifying areas that are worth a whole trip. So the locations selected are either within a short driving distance of other high quality locations, or are worth a trip on their own. Please give me your thoughts on additions or subtractions.
Omitted Michigan and Quebec
I ride my local trails like 3 days a week, I just like building maps

Anyone know off the top of their head or from experience what length spoke I need to get for my 2019 stumpjumper? It's a 27.5 wheel. Have one busted spoke that I'd like to replace and only want to have to take the tire off once I already have the spoke ready to go. Thanks!

Edit: ftr I blame myself entirely for this crash. Honestly don’t understand why people think I’m blaming others. I knew it was a bad idea and just wanted to vent about being stupid and not following my own rule
(sorry this is a long one, but I took the day off and I’m laid up with nothing better to do)
I’ve been riding trails for twenty years on and off, and I’d still consider myself intermediate at best. I just don’t really care about progression bc I’m more interested in avoiding injuries than pushing my limits and I’m having plenty of fun at the level I’m on. For me, riding is mostly about just enjoying being on the trails away from the city and exploring.
I have a few friends who ride, but they’re in better shape than I am and better riders. They were always nice about it but I usually felt like I was putting a damper on their fun when we would ride. Sometimes I’d try to push it to keep up and not have them waiting or slowing down, but that’s when things could get squirrelly for me.
One friend would often try to, let’s say, encourage me to hit bigger features and go faster, which I recognize could make me a better rider but I’d rather be slow and chill than fast and injured. A few times, when acquiescing to his encouragement, I’ve wiped out in ways that could’ve been really bad, but pretty much always got lucky.
So, I started making excuses why I couldn’t make it when they’d ask to ride together. I decided that I would only ride trails solo and that if I was going to get injured, it would be bc I chose the line, not bc I was taking advice I wasn’t sure of. Been riding solo for years now, without injury and having lots of fun.
Recently though I’ve upgraded bikes and have been able to ride more, so I’m in a bit better shape. And although I’m probably a bit old to start, I have always been interested in learning to hit bigger jumps. Always avoided the jump lines at my local spot bc I didn’t feel up to them and also bc I always rode mid range hard tails. I can bunny hop and manual fairly well but never hit anything other than small jumps. New bike is a decent soft tail with much more modern geo than I was used to. Def inspires confidence. So I decided to take a look at the jump lines a few days ago. My plan was to just roll all of it the first few times at least, which is very doable, I’m told.
It’s a few miles of single track up to the jump lines nexus, and I was feeling great all the way up. Even rode up all of the switchbacks, which I usually have to hop off on a few of at least. Some of that I attributed to the new bike.
As soon as I got to the nexus, two twenty something kids ride up to me on $5000+ pedal assist bikes and ask if I want to follow them. I know there’s no chance in hell that I’d be able to keep up, and of course my old rule of riding trails solo, so I politely declined. One of them was really insistent I follow him when I told them it was my first time trying the jump lines. Again, I declined but the guy again insisted that he show me around and said he’d take it slow. Idk why, maybe feeling really good about the ride up there and maybe some confidence from the new bike, but I accepted. Mistake number one. Insistent guy gets ready to go and I look at his friend and say I’ll follow you, with the thought these guys will probably drop me and I’ll just carry on like I had planned. But other guy says he’d rather follow me and, stupidly, I let that happen. Mistake number two.
Immediately, insistent lead guy is fucking ripping, hitting the berms with cutty whips into the super dry and dusty corners (been crazy dry here for weeks). Looked cool af but it was throwing up some fairly big dust clouds, which wasn’t helpful to see the shape of the berm corners. A few corners in, I can feel other guy close af on my back wheel, and I know I’m going super slow compared to lead guy. Stupidly, I pick up the pace more than I was comfortable with and the next berm corner, I didn’t see well and thought it was way less sharp than it was. Washed out trying to correct. Hard. Smashed my bars into my ribs and slammed my entire left side into the dirt.
I was ok in the moment, hopped up brushed myself off and bid farewell to the pair after declining to keep going with them. They must’ve thought I was an idiot, and I wouldn’t argue. Felt really stupid on the ride back to the car and along the way I started to realize my ribs were going to be hurting soon. They’re definitely bruised and most torso movement is painful while moving around.
Trying to sleep is absolutely brutal and gonna be for awhile. I’m really bummed it’ll probably be at least a few weeks before I can ride again.
But on the bright side, I won’t soon forget why I only ride trails solo

Think I got everything pretty much dailed in better then I can ride. 6th time on a mtb in over 2 decades. My endurance is my weak point so lots of breaks with some nice views. Even getting set up for some night riding at work soon. Ended my first 17 mile ride, 3 hill climbs. I'm dead

Ive been riding my bike regularly since june/july this year, having a great time. I started out just getting use to riding off-road at a local nature reserve, learning very basic control of the bike.
Since then ive been to my local trail network a few times and completed my first full circuit of green trails the other week.
Basically everyone there was flying down the trails. I had to let many people pass me on the way down. And i definitely found myself lacking the apparent expected speed for some sections of the trail.
Im sure a part of this is simply familiarity and knowing the trails, but im finding it daunting.
Is this simply a "it will come with time and confidence" thing or is there any specific approach to take that would help build that confidence and skill to go faster on the trails?

Update:
You guys are AMAZING!!!! I got it off.
Now for the next obstinate. Now I need to remove the??? Nut or bolt but neither of these sockets worked. The walls on the black one are too wide and the silver one from park tools is not deep enough. It is 36mm.
Any suggestions?
Not sure how to upload additional photos.
I’m attempting to remove the crank arm on my mountain bike for the first time but of so far been unsuccessful. I have attempted with both the Park Tool CCP-2 and CCP-44.
Both tools thread in just fine but the crank arm is not budging. Wrong tool or more pressure required? It’s a 2017 Giant E+1 with 4,700 miles in it.

Hello,
Does anyone know the trailmetry app? Is it any good?
I like the concept, its super affordable unlike other telemetry systems. But I was unable to find any independent info on this.
Thanks!

My son has been riding his 14" pedal bike for the past year, with the year before on his balance bike.
I'm struggling to find many 16" bikes with gears and I think he's ready to try them out. There are a lot more options in 20" bikes but would it be too big of a jump?
For example the Orbea Kimu 20" has a minimum height of 108cm. He is currently 101cm. Is that too much of a jump?

I’m planning a last minute trip to Asheville, NC next week. I want a full fun day of mountain bike riding. I’m trying to decide between renting a bike at Rock Creek Bike Park or Kanuga vs bringing my hard tail and riding somewhere like Bent Creek.
No matter where I ride, I’ll be sticking to blue and green trails. I’m not looking for advanced trails with jumps and drops. Asheville is just a base of operations for my other days of hiking and gravel biking. I’m not opposed to driving an hour or two for good mountain biking.
I appreciate any input!

If you find yourself in Bozeman, Montana, definitely check out the cross cut Trail system featuring a trail called Gnomadic. A fast flow jump line with tons of berms and jumps. It is a green line so no gaps just flowing fun Also, halfway down, I inhaled a fly.

Trail*** riding.
I’ve always wanted to get a decent/good mountain bike to ride the trails in the Michigan U.P. and L.P
I know it’s almost winter but I figured I’d start looking into stuff now and asking questions for next spring and summer.
I really just want to trail ride, I want a bike that’s able to do some pretty “rough” terrain but it’s not like I’m gonna try and go down anything insane.
Other than the bike, (though I need recommendations for that too) what other gear should I get or just overall things to be aware of?

Hey everyone! 🚵
I'm the developer of BikePark, a Garmin app that automatically detects downhill runs and uplifts.
I'm currently exploring a new feature: automatically starting an action camera when a downhill run begins and stopping it when the run ends.
No more forgetting to press record or filming the entire uplift! 😂
It's still an idea I'm investigating, but I'd love some feedback.
Would you actually use something like this? And which camera do you ride with – GoPro, DJI, or something else?
Thanks!
