Who Not To Vote For

Vote for whoever you want but DO NOT vote for Chelsa Meadus. She is literally crazy and was a cancer the last time she was on council and made it incredibly dysfunctional. That chick should never be anywhere near politics.

The Tea Shoppe Lady for City Council

My wife asked me to post this because she worries that the owner of the tea shoppe in town is being drowned out by AI campaign managers. I don’t spend anytime on Facebook or other social media websites so I’m am unsure if this is true or not?

I like that she is running on supporting business and the downtown core.

Not sure how to post a link on here?

New Fortis BC Rebate is $4,000, for a New furnace and Heatpump. Up to $8,000 for those who qualify.

Just wanted to share that FortisBC has introduced a $4,000 rebate for eligible homeowners looking to upgrade to a dual-fuel heating system (gas furnace + heat pump), with $8,000 available for income-qualified households.

With the rising cost of everything these days, it’s a great opportunity to save on the upfront cost of a new system, with the added benefit of potentially saving on monthly energy bills too.

I’m a bit of a local HVAC nerd, so if you’re considering an upgrade, I’d be happy to chat, answer any questions, and help you figure out whether a dual-fuel system and the rebate actually make sense for your home.

Feel free to message me here or on my cell.

Emerxing Media in Albion Magazine

Has anyone seen the new Albion Life Magazine left at their doorstep today and thought what is this publisher Emerxing Media. After a small research with my helper pal Google, I was able to find that it is an company located in Delhi rather than being a local media company.

Now i’m just curious how can we not get our local folks to publish a magazine and why the need to outsource for this. I love the magazine and the idea to bring an edition each month, i’m just confused as to why we can’t make our own magazine with our own voices, you know the ones that lives and breathes Albion, the people who have been here for decades and have seen the community grow into what it is now.

New Mall/Shopping Area in Maple Ridge?

• Upvotes

Hi everyone, I’m curious what others think about having a new mall or shopping area in Ridge. I always thought down by the ice rink would be a great spot for it. However, I know that has its difficulties because that land is ALR. There’s no denying we are in desperate need of more retail shopping in Ridge. Unfortunately Haney Place Mall is dead and I really don’t think there’s any solution for reviving it. It would be nice to have a new area with a new mall and potentially a Superstore and some restaurants. Kind of like Langley.

What are others thoughts on this? Do you agree? Are there other solutions to help our city with the retail aspect?

A Better Maple Ridge campaign announcement from October 13. They will start design and engineering for a new bridge between 240 and Fern Crescent

From their post on facebook:

We want to make sure you can get home faster and safer, that's why we are committed to starting design and engineering work to build the 240th bridge to Silver Valley. So when provincial and federal money comes through we are shovel ready.

Having an additional access point for Silver Valley not only gets you moving faster, it's a safe route out in case of emergencies. This project has been sitting on the books for years, and it's time we get it moving forward.

Cities that show up to funding applications with design work already done get taken more seriously and move faster.

Before the NDP came into power, the BC Liberals were in power for 16 years, from 2001 to 2017, under Gordon Campbell and Christy Clark. That period had its share of scandals, controversies and questions about accountability. No government should get a free pass, regardless of party. Here’s a reminder of some of the major controversies from those years. Political accountability should apply to everyone, not just the politicians we disagree with.

BC LIBERAL GOVERNMENT: MAJOR SCANDALS & CONTROVERSIES (2001–2017)

The BC Liberals governed BC for 16 years. Here are some of the major controversies from that era:

• BC Rail scandal (2003–2010): Two Liberal ministerial aides pleaded guilty to breach of trust in connection with confidential information about the BC Rail sale.

• Gordon Campbell’s DUI (2003): The premier was arrested in Hawaii for impaired driving and later pleaded no contest.

• BC Rail legal fees: The government paid approximately $6 million toward the legal defence of the two aides, prompting major public criticism.

• HST backtrack (2009–2011): The Liberals introduced the HST shortly after an election in which they had not campaigned on it. After a public referendum, BC voted to scrap it.

• Health Ministry firings (2012): Health researchers were wrongly accused and dismissed. The government later apologized and provided compensation.

• “Quick Wins” ethnic outreach scandal (2013): Government staff and public resources were used for partisan political activities. Senior staff resigned.

• Political fundraising controversy: The Liberals accepted large corporate and union donations until BC banned them in 2017, raising concerns about donor influence and access to government.

• Triple-delete email scandal (2015–2016): Government emails relating to the Highway of Tears investigation were deleted. A former government aide pleaded guilty to lying under oath during the investigation.

• Casino money laundering concerns: Warnings about suspicious cash transactions and weaknesses in casino oversight raised serious questions about government oversight.

• Housing affordability: The government faced sustained criticism over soaring home prices and its response to foreign investment and speculation.

These are documented controversies from the Campbell and Clark years. Some involved proven misconduct; others involved policy failures or questions of accountability.

Election guide website

I built a website to start to understand the candidates and the process for our municipal election on October 17. I figured other people might find it useful too, so I'm sharing it here.

https://vote-maple-ridge.vercel.app

It isn't connected to the City or any candidate, and I'm not endorsing anyone. Each candidate summary links back to where the information came from, either the candidate's own profile on the City website or Maple Ridge News. If you see something wrong, there's a feedback form on the site and I'll fix it.

Edit: I have added the provincial election as well.

They have a candidate in Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows but not Maple Ridge East.

Got my test scheduled in Ridge this upcoming Tuesday. Was wondering if anyone has any tips and/or if anyone knows if their reputation for high fail rates still holds nowadays. Can’t seem to find any routes online for Ridge.

The newest candidate profiles give away the entire game. Between an anti-rec candidate admitting she was recruited two hours before the deadline and another promising frozen taxes alongside magic arenas, the geographic divide explains everything.

Upcoming Municipal Vote

If you are voting, or not voting - is there any information you still need to make an informed ballot choice?

Just throwing a thread up here for folks with questions that might need answers. As a community maybe we can help each other if needed.

We have early voting dates if you’d think casting your ballot before election day, will encourage you to get out and vote.

Hairdresser/barber recommendations?

Haven’t had my haircut in far too long for personal reasons, but looking to get my haircut now. The barber that I used to go to no longer works in Maple Ridge, and prior to them, I’ve had a few bad experiences at local barbershops.

Anyone have recommendations for a good barber?

PSA for anyone who opted for mail-in ballot for local election

Wife and I were filling out our ballots tonight and got to the end and putting it in its envelop properly and realized that the envelopes are not prepaid. The voter has to provide the postage. You can drop off your ballot at city Hall for free 24 hrs so I will be doing that tomorrow instead. If I had known I would have just gone to the advanced polls.
