GPU Anyone tried the Nullmoth driver on a 2019 Mac Pro?

If you haven't heard, someone vibe-coded native Nvidia drivers that work in Sequoia and Tahoe.
https://www.reddit.com/user/null-moth/comments/1x6f41u/nullmoth_20_nvidia_driver_for_macos_15_and_26/

Curious if anyone that has a 2019 Mac Pro has tried these? My Mac Pro is happy currently with a Radeon 6800 for Mac OS Tahoe... and dual boot to Windows 11 with a RTX 5080 for gaming. Everything works nicely.. but I'm tempted to try these...

GPU Best way to use trashcan for local Ai?

Hi lads, I’m running Ubuntu + llama + vulkan to use my Mac Pro 2x FirePro D700 to run a little local Ai server/agent to help me with some client orders so I don’t have to digitalice manually.
Is there some tips that you can share with me?
I read about that some cpu configs are better for server purposes.
Thank!

GPU MacPro 6,1 D500 PCI Pass thru solved

Hi everyone, I made a new account for this post. I'm going to go a head and post this on a few other forums where there might be some interest. I'm also not sure if anyone solved this problem before, but if they had then the internet long forgot about it. Anyway, I managed to get GPU (the D500) passthrough working on my MacPro 6,1 in Proxmox version 9. I know it's a VERY niche problem to have, but I consolidated it all on my GitHub for it.

And yes, I used to AI on the project, so be mad about if you want... idc... I suck at writing guides and papers, so it is what it is. I hope at the very least it can help someone out there if they run into the same issue. At least it's documented.

RAM Any idea why this RAM works in my 5,1 but not in my flashed 4,1?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Is there some RAM limitation on the 4,1 that I’m unaware of? It will boot with a 16GB 2RX4 12800R but not this 2GB 2RX8 10600E stick. The RAM shown in the photo does work in my 5,1 just not the 4,1.

I’ve tried it in all slots and there are no LED error lights, just no chime and no boot.

Thanks in advance

CPU Is it possible for a 2009 duel cpu to work in a 2010 5,1?

Hey everyone so I recently got a duel cpu tray from a 2009 Mac Pro and when I put it in my 2010 Mac Pro it boots fine but the fans are spinning like crazy. I was wondering if there was a way to get this fully compatible with my Mac or if I have to find one from a 2010

macOS Startup after power cut problem

Hi,

Mac Pro 5,1 running OC/Monterey.

There was a power cut while running. When the power came back, it restarted by itsef. I looked in the System Prefs and had it set to NOT power up after a cut, so confused as to why it restarted?

Everything was ok and I shutdown normally. Now whenever I power up, I get the dialog saying it has just powered up after a cut!

Is there anyway to reset this?

Thanks a lot

GPU Mac Pro 3,1 + RX 570 on Monterey (OCLP): purple screen after updating OCLP to 2.5.1

Hi all,

I’m running into a purple screen on my Mac Pro 3,1 after updating OpenCore Legacy Patcher, and I’m out of ideas.

Setup:

  • Mac Pro 3,1 (Early 2008), dual Xeon Harpertown
  • 16 GB RAM
  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 570 Sapphire Nitro+ 8Gb
  • macOS Monterey 12.7.x installed with OCLP

What happened:

  1. Earlier today I installed Monterey using OCLP. Everything worked fine: OpenCore built and installed, root patches applied, normal boot and graphics.
  2. OCLP then offered an update to 2.5.1. I accepted it.
  3. I can log in but the screen is purple

What I’ve tried:

  • Root patch Revert, then re-patching: same purple screen
  • Fully reinstalled OCLP, rebuilt and reinstalled OpenCore to the EFI, re-applied root patches: no change

Questions:

  • Is this a known issue in OCLP 2.5.1 on the Mac Pro 3,1, or with the RX 570?
  • Since the RX 570 is natively supported on Monterey, could unnecessary root patches be conflicting with the GPU driver?

Thanks in advance!

Issues Mac Pro 4,1 freezes after 3 minutes

I recently made a post about the same issue, but I thought the issue was caused by an SMC mismatch (I had a 5,1 tray and a 4,1 back plane). Now I have a 4,1 tray and back plane and it still has the freezing issue! 2-3 minutes after boot it always freezes, 100% of the time.

I can guarantee it is not a thermal issue, I repasted the CPU and Northbridge.

I‘ve tried multiple macOS installs, multiple GPUs, and different RAM. The only thing I think could be the issue is the USB I have OCLP on or the back plane.

Let me know if you have any idea what this issue is.

Other Games that runs well on Mac Pro 6,1?

Just acquired 2 trashcan Mac Pros (both manufactured in early 2015).

I mainly got them for their visual design and compatibility with some of my older Thunderbolt peripherals.

Specs for both are pretty much identical:

Processor: 3.5 GHz 6-core Intel Xeon E5
GPU: AMD FirePro D500 3 GB
RAM 64 GB

One has a 1 TB SSD, the other 256 GB.

Other than Starcraft II and Apple Arcade, looking to install some fun hardware appropriate games for the two setups.

One machine will function as a guest bedroom computer and the other machine will be a living room unit that's connected to an old G-RAID NAS archive so it's kind of functioning like a home server.

Also looking for other use cases for the machines.

I know power consumption while idle isn't great compared to current Apple Silicon so will power them down when not in active use.

Upgrades Need help with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth upgrade for the Mac Pro 5,1 (Mid 2012)

Hi! I have a silly question about Wi-Fi and Bluetooth upgrade for my cMP. Should I get a BCM94360CD card or ВСМ943602СDР from 2018 iMac? I’m willing to install it via adapter in place of an old/stock Wi-Fi/Bluetooth card that my Mac shipped with

Upgrades MacPro 2006 memory - PC2-5300F vs. PC-5300 ?

I'm working on getting my old MacPro 2006 back into daily service after being stored away for a decade. It currently has 10GB memory - two 4GB and four 512MB. I'd like to bump the total up if I can find the right ones. I see some available on FB that are labeled as PC2-5300. I know I can use PC2-5300F and can't or shouldn't anything with a letter other than F on the end. But when no letter is printed on the label or advertised on the listing, is that a different animal from all the others including F?

My existing memory (see photo) is the original Apple logo'd Micron, some Crucial, and some Nanya. The Micron and Nanya are labeled as PC2-5300F. The Crucial says PC2-5 and then adds a circular arrow. I will assume it is the F variety because it always worked and I'm feel that when I bought it in 2013 that it was listed as the F type.

For buying used memory, should I be concerned about PC2-5300 (with no letter) ? It does have the big heat sinks.

Upgrades Interested in picking up a 2013 Mac Pro as a budget gaming build.

Hello all I’m interested in picking up a 2013 Mac Pro and using it as a budget gaming pc. I’ve seen lots of videos about dual booting Windows and running games with pretty decent performance.

My question is, would this even be a smart decision? And what would I realistically need to put into this 13 year old computer to make it perform well. I’m mainly interested in the Trash can because it seems relatively easy to work on and add upgrades.

Appreciate any feedback!

Upgrades Beginner tips for Mac Pro 2013?

Hello everyone!

So as an avid Mac Pro 2019 user (still, 28-Cores, 768GB DDR4, 8TB SSD, W6800X) I kind of skipped the 2013 Mac Pro.

I skipped straight from 5.1 to 7.1.

So I’ve never owned a Mac Pro 2013, which is why I really wanna get one just for the sake of it.

So a few questions from a trash-can-newbie :-)

- What’s upgradeable? Like eveything including the GPU?
- Which GPU should I go for? I’ve heard some stuff about overheating on the D700, wondering now if that’s really such a big issue.
- How much RAM should I get?
- What’s up with the SSD? Do all NVMes work? (I kinda need 2TB) or should I maybe get the OWC Aura SSD?
- Some other issues I should be worried about?
- Does it work with the Pro Display XDR, or the Studio Display? Or do I need to get the Thunderbolt Display as well?
- And finally: What can I do with this beautiful peace of teach? Planning to run macOS Monterey on it and to my work on it, or maybe downgrade to macOS Mojave and replace some old 32-Bit Mac games including GTA San Andreas :-D

Still looking through my local eBay offers, since I’m very picky about condition, so it’s gotta be mint 😁

(I know, I could have googled parts of this, but I just love talking with people)

Upgrades MacPro 2006 - possible to upgrade OSX past 10.7 Lion?

I recently did a firmware update to my MacPro 2006. System profiler now reports it is a MacPro2,1 (the 2008). With the 2006/2007 maxing out at OSX 10.7, I hoped this would allow me to go as far as 10.11 like a real 2008 model. But the Mountain Lion installer balked saying it would not run on this machine.

Clearly, the installer checked more than the firmware level to determine what my machine was. Perhaps if I swapped the CPUs to two quad-core Xeon, it might then recognize the machine as a 2008.

Has anyone with a MacPro 2006/2007 done the firmware update and CPU swap and successfully installed an OSX 10.8 through 10.11 ?

Edit: I now understand the 2,1 designation is the 2007, which is also limited to OSX Lion like the 2006. Working on the Pike's boot.efi method.

Other Best use case for 5.1?

I have a old 5.1 128GB RAM top-of-the-line Mac Pro. I don't want to run anything g24/7 because it's so powerhungry but what would you suggest is a good use case for a machine like this?

HDD/SSD How can I increase speeds on my NVMe SSD plugged in PCIe slot?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Long story short, I recently got myself a Mac Pro 5,1 with an NVMe SSD plugged in second PCIe slot and after running some Blackmagic Disk Speedtest it showed me those mediocre results. I’ve checked, my SSD supports up to 1650mb/s on write. Is there any way to increase it?

FYI, my Mac Pro is running macOS 15.8.1 with OCLP EFI installed on that drive. TIA
