I'll be speaking at the Longmont Museum next Sunday (the 25th) in the afternoon at an event for the Longmont Library.
Come join in! I'll be speaking about alien invasion scenarios in science fiction, the real science of astrobiology, how aliens tie into our mythologies, and some hopeful ideas about alien life as well.

Looking for a physical therapist
My aging mom has been struggling with sciatica for a while now, and she's been going to a PT office in Boulder because that's where we moved from not too long ago. But she's definitely plateaued in her healing, and it seems like the right time to look for a different PT closer to our new place.
So does anyone have any physical therapists to recommend? We live downtown, but honestly anywhere in Longmont will be more convenient than driving to Boulder. It would need to be a place that accepts Medicare though. Thanks for any insight!

Breyer Horses in Longmont
I am looking for a place to buy some seasonal Breyer Horses and possibly to sell some of my old ones.
I know that Grandrabbits has some (I haven't been to the store in Longmont to see what they carry yet) and that is the only store that shows up on the Breyer website as an official seller. Has anyone else seen any for sale anywhere else?
Also does anyone else know any places that buy or resell old breyers?

Large Party Dinner Reservations
Looking to go out to dinner with family in December and wondering if there are good restaurants that have good spaces for party sizes of 9. Any restaurants with “private rooms” of some sort? We went to La Mariposa last year but looking for a different spot this time!

Sprinkler blow outs?
Even though it's getting cold this week, I think we probably still have a few weeks before folks are seriously at risk for burst pipes. In the meantime, how much are ya'll paying for sprinkler blowouts, and do you have any recommendations?

3A is a police funding bill where firefighters get some money too.
Looking into 3A I am surprised that it's being touted so firefighter forward when in reality it's mostly creating jobs for police. While I'd love to find firefighters I just can't trust something that feels like such a bait and switch.
Do what you will with this information and have a great day.

Halloween events?
I haven’t seen any listings yet for local costume parties going on around town. Has anyone else heard of upcoming events?
With Halloween falling on a Saturday this year, and an unused costume from last year, looking for somewhere to get dressed up and go out

Rant I've been complaining to Google Fi about shitty service and you can too!
Just wanted to post my latest (final?) communication from Fi regarding the recent service nose dive and the possibility of some kind of bill credit. None of it surprising, still reads like AI, still frustrating.
And yet I'd still suggest that if you're on Fi or have Tmobile that you complain too, and to the FCC as well, before you also consider changing to some other carrier (if that would even help?)
Safe to say cell service is not gonna be one of the selling points of this great lil town of ours
Hi Austin,
I wanted to touch base with you personally regarding the status of your service in Longmont and the question you raised about billing credits.
First, I want to be completely transparent with you. When we last spoke, I mentioned that we would review your account for potential credits once things were resolved. However, after coordinating closely with our network and policy teams, I need to share an update on how we are handling account adjustments for this specific situation.
Because these necessary changes are being driven entirely by federal compliance guidelines for the Table Mountain Radio Quiet Zone—rather than a typical cell tower outage or unexpected equipment failure—our internal and policy teams have determined that we aren't able to offer financial credits or bill appeasements for this regulatory adjustment period.
I know this is not the answer you were hoping for, especially after dealing with weeks of frustration and inconvenience, and I am genuinely sorry to have to share this update with you.
With these federal network adjustments ongoing and the official guidance finalized, we will be closing out this particular support case on our end. However, please know that if you ever need any additional help, device assistance, or have further questions in the future, you can always reply directly to this email thread to reach me.
Thank you again for your patience and for being a valued part of Google Fi since 2021.
Regards,
Nikil

Anyone with infusion center recommendations?
I have used Veros health in Longmont, but unfortunately they have forgotten to order the right amount of my medication for multiple sclerosis twice. This is delaying my treatment. I’m scrambling to find somewhere to get my dosage right. Anyone has other recommendations?
Also, any recommendations for how to report this as a consistent medical issue with either the provider or with licensing groups?

Dog Boarding Recommendations
I need to board my dog over Christmas. I've already reached out to a few boarding spots and Rover pet sitters and am waiting to hear if they have openings. But since I'm new in town, I figured I'd ask here to see what people recommend. Thanks!

Has anyone experienced issues with VASA?
Following a recent incident that I will not explain as not to enter "rant" territory, I am wondering if anyone has experienced similar issues with the VASA on Pace? Specifically, trying to upcharge you for services that you already receive on a lesser plan, or charging for services that you denied? Trying to see if my issues exist in a vacuum so I can decide how to proceed.
EDIT: My issue was with the GM, but billing was able to cancel my upcoming charges. Still trying to get a refund.

I walked, biked, and drove every street in Longmont to map cell coverage and show where it's bad & good
Quick edits:
- You can browse the fully interactive map here: https://map.coveragemap.com/
- You can contribute data to the map with the free CoverageMap app, if you are interested (iOS and Android)
Hey everyone,
As some of you may have heard, carriers have been adjusting their networks to comply with the Table Mountain Radio Quiet Zone, which has caused cell coverage to become noticeably worse in parts of Longmont, Niwot, and Boulder.
u/EsKetchup had an awesome post where they used CellMapper to show how LTE signal gets weaker around the quiet zone.
But I was curious. What about 5G? What about data speeds? How did the quality of service change before and after the carriers adjusted their networks?
To find out, I walked, biked, and drove on every street in Longmont while running speed tests on AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon to map out cell coverage. By chance, I had already done this once before in 2023. Last week I went out again to get fresh data and see how the performance compared.
I was surprised!
- Around the quiet zone, speeds dropped significantly
- All the black squares are areas where the tests failed to run, even when the phones said they had service
- AT&T actually DOES now have 5G towers in Longmont! Cool to see they have much faster speeds now (in some parts, at least)
- The last image is an analysis of the service complaints in this Reddit post by u/Puzzleheaded-Sky2284. And what do you know! Most of the service complaints line up where the speeds are measurably poor
Now, why the heck would I do this? Twice!
It turns out I review cell phone plans on YouTube. Part of picking a plan is understanding what network is best where you live. So, in 2022 I co-founded CoverageMap.com to build out crowdsourced maps of cell coverage. That's what I used for this comparison.
The maps are free to browse and have much richer detail, such as upload speeds, latency, and signal strength, and you can zoom in to see even smaller squares.
If you'd like to contribute, you can use the free app to run a test in your neighborhood. The map updates in real time, and even failed tests show on the map as areas with confirmed no service.
I hope that is helpful!

Medical Malpractice Attorney
I’m looking for a medical malpractice attorney who would be willing to sit down with me and let know if I have a case or not. Do any good ones work on contingency? Preferably if they have experience with obstetrics/missed diagnoses. If you’ve successfully navigated this space, any advice/tips are welcome.

Cell service in the news
Everyone is suffering with poor cell service regardless of carrier. As previously discussed here, it's because of the Table Mountain Quiet Zone and carriers ignoring the law and finally being stopped. Here are a couple of recent articles about it. Apologies if these have already been shared, I admittedly didn't look.
Here’s why your cellphone hasn’t been working in parts of Boulder County
Colorado cell complaints pile up as Table Mountain radio quiet zone limits squeeze AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile

Seeking recent experiences with Aspen Center childcare
We really enjoyed our tour, but feel like we are not seeing a ton of recent experiences or reviews online. Particularly interested in recent experiences with infant care, but would be great to hear from any parents with enrolled kids - how is it?

“I voted” stickers available at ballot box drop offs
They’re going fast, so vote soon if you want a sticker! Maybe they’ll replenish, but there were just a couple dozen left at the Fairgrounds ballot box today.
