AMA (Ask Me Anything)

IF YOU ARE A CANDIDATE and would like us to host an AMA, you must provide PROOF of ID (proof of identification tells our community you’re actually you— and not someone else pretending to be you!). Please [ contact the mods ] of this sub to have us set up an AMA thread for you. Please read our AMA requirements, how-to, etc → [ HERE ]

AMAs are a core part of Reddit culture. They are in essence, text-based Q-&-A interviews from the London, Ontario reddit community. The appeal of AMAs is it gives London, ON redditors the opportunity to interact with candidates in their municipality (of whom we might not otherwise have a chance to meet in person). In addition, there is an expectation of candour and substance in AMA exchanges.

.
CANDIDATE MEET-&-GREET Q & A, DEBATES, etc
Candidate "meet & greets," debates, & other meetings are usually organized by local community groups or business associations.

The Urban League of London in collaboration with RogersTV will be hosting all candidate meetings for each of the city’s 14 wards to help keep Londoners informed. Meetings will take place between Sept. 9 and Oct. 1.
Below are the video links for each debate:

discussion / opinion What's with the shipping containers at the Riverside Boat Launch?

Post image
24 Upvotes

I drive down Riverside Dr. a couple times per week. For the past 4-5 months a pair of shipping containers have sat at the Parking Lot beside the boat launch. One's now equipped with a large set of solar panels and the other looks like it has gas service and a restaurant ventilation fan attached to it. They seem to be set up as long-term structures.

I understand the boat launch is anticipated to be reconstructed in 2027, but these seemed to be placed way outside of that schedule, so wasn't sure if it's directly related. https://getinvolved.london.ca/riverside-boat-launch-park

EDIT: I was just informed it's used by the fire department for storage of the items they use during water rescue training exercises

Municipal Elections 2026 Why 0% tax isn't so great in the long-run (just some information/links)

I just wanted to provide some reading material on why a 0% tax increase isn't so great in the long run:

https://www.municipalworld.com/feature-story/why-0-tax-increases-cost-so-much/

I also wanted to include this article, providing info on the mayoral candidates stance with tax:

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/london/mayoral-debate-9.7379067

And here's some reading on how municipalities work and how we pay for services through taxes:

Edit to add this video link that explains how property taxes are calculated:

🥄food /restaurants /gastronomy Needing some help

Ok, so tomorrow is my 10th wedding anniversary. Initially I was taking my kid to dance class all night, but I’m going to get my brother-in-law to do it instead, so I’d like to take my wife out for supper. If you had a single place, preferably downtown, that you could take your significant other for food, where would it be? Anything is fine, I’d prefer no curry.

Anyone know of any soccer team looking for players for indoor this winter? I moved here 2 weeks ago and I think registration may have closed. I’m 29 female and I love soccer but looking for a recreational team, not super competitive.

Ask a Local! Things to do for a 3 generation family outing

Hey guys it’s been a long time since I’ve been in London, but it used to be our family’s home. Now we live all over Southern ontario.

It’s my parent’s anniversary this weekend and London is a good geographical centre for our family (my 2 parents, 4 adults, 4 grandkids ages 5-10).

We were going to golf 9 holes at Hickory Ridge then do dinner, but it’s looking like it’s going to be chilly and I don’t think it will be much fun for the kids especially if it’s windy.

My sister mentioned The Factory but just looking for some other ideas.

My family has the least money so we’d like to keep the cost under $300 for our family plus my parent’s share.

Ask a Local! Looking for multi-sports program for a 12 year old

We had our daughter in a summer "camp" program when she was maybe 5, that met once a week and did a different sport each time.

I'm hoping there is something similar out there that meets more frequently and is more in-depth than just having toddlers running around, because she's starting to take a serious interest in sports and we just don't have the means to sign her up for volleyball AND soccer AND basketball AND etc.

We basically want a sampler pack so she can try new stuff at an entry level, to see what she likes and wants to take further.

We're in the Hyde Park area, but willing to drive a bit. Any suggestions?

health care/health issues ACL surgery December at Fowler Clinic

Hello,

My wife has a surgery scheduled for her ACL at Fowler's Clinic in December. She is a bit nervous because she has never had surgery before and the surgeon who will be operating just started earlier this year, Dr. Yuta Nakanishi. I did some research and he specializes in ACL, meniscus, osteotomy or kneecap surgery. His credentials seem impressive, but there is no patient reviews. If anyone has had him for an ACL surgery or similar and would like to share their experience, that would be great. Or even their experience with post op at the fowler clinic, and what their experience was like with physiotherapy after, as well as follow-up from the surgeons at the clinic. We are from Saskatchewan, and have only lived in London for three years, so we don't know the reputation of the clinic, or what to expect since we don't know many people who has had this type of operations done.

Thank you,
