It's weird that we're focusing on Fortnite here and not EAC being ported to Linux, that's huge. EAC is used by way more that Fortnite: Rust, Apex, Rocket League have all been pinned to Windows because of EAC.
Anticheat has been basically the last really big blocker to full Linux gaming.
This is a massive shift in the Linux versus Windows situation. Way bigger than one game.
Actually great point and sent me down the google rabbit hole. I guess Epic already ported EAC to Linux a few months ago which is when Rocket League got support.
This specifically is a new version of EAC that's apparently much closer to the Windows version. Why Epic migrated Rocket League and not Fortnite I can't say, but I guess that's my confusion.
Rust still has not allowed proton players because of the lack of EAC support on Linux.
Fortnite is Epic's showcase. It was their Unreal showcase, now EAC and Linux showcase. If Fortnite works well, other games will follow the trend. If Fortnite fails, the whole thing crumbles.
