Racing Kart Question How do you train during the off-season?

With most karting championships coming to an end, I'm curious how everyone prepares for the next season. Do you take a complete break from racing, or do you keep training throughout the winter? My son races competitively, and we're planning to focus on simulator practice, physical fitness and improving specific driving skills during the off-season. I'd love to hear what other drivers, parents and coaches do. Any interesting training routines or exercises that actually made a difference for you?

Racing Kart Question Alfano internal tyre pressure sensors

• Upvotes

Does anyone have experience using the Alfano internal tyre pressure and temperature sensors?

https://www.alfano.com/en/shop/alfano-7-2t-2026/a1210-5i-capteur-de-pression-pneu/

It looks like there is a new updated version coming out in March 2027 that has a replaceable battery, version one had an inbuilt battery with a life of around 2 years if used 15 hours per week.

Anyone able to give a review of their experience?

Racing Kart Question Cost of insurance for my indoor and outdoor go-kart tracks?

I own two tracks in Florida. One is an outdoor sprint track with gas rental karts, about 0.4 miles, that I've had since 2015. The other is an indoor electric track I opened last year in a converted warehouse 20 minutes away, mostly arrive and drive plus corporate groups.

They have always been on two different policies with two different agents, because the indoor one came with a landlord who had opinions. Both renew in January and I'd like to put them together if that's possible, and find out what I should be paying while I'm at it.

Things I don't know. Whether indoor electric and outdoor gas get rated the same. Whether accident and health is worth having for drivers on top of general liability, since right now I only have it at the outdoor track. And whether junior karts and league nights change the picture.

If you run rental karts, what does insurance cost you a year per track? I've only ever seen my own two quotes.

So, those that followed my loss or power post, here’s the culprit. So, I need a new piston. But there doesn’t seem to be a “number” on it. Stamped into the top I can see “IAME SJD”. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Racing Kart Question Rotax Max engine mount issue – Would an OTK angled mount help?

Thumbnail

Hi everyone!
I’ve recently transferred my Rotax Max (non-EVO) engine from my old 2014 PCR chassis to a 2021 Kosmic Mercury chassis.
The problem is that my current engine mount hits a crossbar behind the seat, preventing me from moving the engine further back. Even with the engine pushed all the way back, my 219 chain is still too short.
Ideally, I’d like the engine to sit a bit further forward, with enough room to adjust the chain tension. I usually run a 75T rear sprocket.
I’m considering buying this OTK angled engine mount.
Would this mount solve my clearance issue? Is it more compact than a regular engine mount, or should I just use a longer 219 chain?
I’ve attached some pictures for reference.
Thanks in advance!

Racing Kart Question What can cause brake failure on a tony kart?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Basically I went out for a test day then noticed my brakes were very weak so I pulled in and my dad could literally push me with my brakes all the way down then when it was on the stand we could spin the rear axle with brakes all the way down. And I'm wondering since my race is this weekend do I take the chance and try to fix the tony or drive my vlr that I haven't driven since may, but I would have a full day of testing to get comfortable in it.

Racing Kart Tips and Tricks Best 360 camera setup for 2 stroke go karts

Hi everyone, I bought an Insta360 X5 to film my 2-stroke go kart practices and races, but I'm really hesitant and concerned about the camera's weight and size on kart-mounted brackets due to the high vibration. On top of that, mounting it on my helmet doesn't seem like the best idea either. Because of this, would it be better to swap it for a GoPro? Do you guys recommend any specific model? Which 360 setup is the most popular by the drivers?

Rental Karting Question How to not to be afraid of walls?

I'm driving in rentals, in indoor karting tracks, and they're tight as hell, I know how to drive, I know what I need, but the only thing that I need to go for a fast times is going close to walls. That's the reason why I missing apexes, why I losing speed, Ig that's the only problem which makes me slower than some guys in the championship.

Sorry if you just couldn't read it, I'm not a native speaker, but trying to improve my english :)

Not sure if this post is allowed, but I messaged the mods and didn't get a reply. I'm hosting a charity kart race on Veterans Day (Wednesday Nov. 11) at Trackouse Motorplex in Mooresville, NC. About 45 min north of Charlotte. Teams (up to 4) are $1000 each or individuals are $250. All proceeds benefit Homes For Our Troops, a charity that builds homes for severely injured veterans.

It's a pro-am event and we have many pros from the sports car world confirmed: Patrick Gallagher, Andrew Carbonell, Ryan Eversley, Matt Bell, Spencer Pumpelly, Westin Workman, Kenton Koch, Chris Walsh, Britt Casey Jr.

There will be practices, qualifying and a 90 minute race. If you're close enough and interested you can get all the info and register at kartsforcourage.org

Karting News I built a free lap-timing app for track days

Hey, I’ve been building 130R, a free lap-timing app for iOS and Android. It includes lap and sector timing, lap comparisons, and a catalogue of over 3,000 circuits worldwide.

Support for external GPS antennas is in development and should be coming soon. If you try the app, I’d love to hear what you think or what features you’d like to see. An honest store rating or review would also help a lot.

iOS: 130R on the App Store
Android: 130R on Google Play

Front nose cone seems loose - I understand the drop down element but the series I’m entering doesn’t require it anyway

Was just wondering if this is normal? Cannot clamp it down anymore than I have already

Rental Karting Question Should I change OMP GPR-K for Arai SK6??

Hey everyone, I'm a rental karter with an OMP GPR K and recently I've really been wanting an Arai. They look amazing, they have great ventilation and visor lock. I'm not really a great fan of the CK6 but for me the SK6 just looks so nice. I am also available to go to GPR to test on a few helmets.

The thing is, ive only been karting for a year and I just think it would be a waste of money to spend it on yet another helmet just because I want to look better and have more air blown into my helmet. Honestly, I'm quite a sweaty person so ventilation is the key thing for me. OMP also has limited customization which kind of annoys me.

Should I start saving up and buy it or should I leave it for a year or so? Let me know what you think

Racing Kart Video I have consistently been 4-5s off the pace all season at my local track. Can anyone see what I'm doing wrong?

The fastest lap is around 60s, I just recently got to 64, but still lost as to where im losing time. The lap starts around 10seconds into the video. The track is TRACK and yea, any advice/help would be greatly appreciated. Also idk how relavent it is but I am 118kg (I am cutting rn).

EDIT1: thank you so much for all the advice and help I got haha, the main takeaways I got here, was to first lose the"fat" I have taken my cut more seriously, (started eating salads yuck haha) and to be later on the apex, and be smoother with my turn ins.

Racing Kart Question What effect does weight have ?

Ok, obviously I know that more weight makes a kart slower for the most part. Yes, properly placed weight can change the handling for the better. But my question is much more rudimentary. For every 10lbs above a given minimum weight, how much slower per lap would an average kart be?

My friend and I turn laps at a local track. I have at least 40lbs on him. I’m turning laps at a low 34 second time and he’s turning laps at a mid 32 second time. Admittedly he has more seat time in his KA100 than I have in my X30 and I’m sure that accounts for some of the difference, but how much of that can I attribute to my weight versus his weight?

Racing Kart Question Horstman EXPW Pro Clutch Locking Up on My KT100: Any Ideas?

Post image
4 Upvotes

I'm no rookie, but I wouldn't call myself an expert either. I recently picked up a KT100, my first two-stroke. I'm used to throwing $40 clutches on budget Predator engines, so this setup was a different animal.

I tracked down a Horstman EXPW Pro clutch, brand new in the box with the stickers still in it, which was a lucky find. I followed the installation carefully and torqued it to the 25–30 ft-lb spec. But when I start the engine with my drill, the clutch nut seems to tighten further on the crank, and the drum locks to the clutch so the two spin together as one unit.

Has anyone run into this? I'd appreciate any insight from those with more two-stroke clutch experience.

(Also, I am aware that there is a washer on my crank nut I put that there. On some diy it helped a little bit. — in Los Angeles.)

Marie usually drives tracks, that need clean driving with 160cc.

She is struggling with driving dirty on this slippery track with 270cc. She is stamping / clamping because of that. What tips to give, so she can turn in more in the entries with the karts back?
