Thanks again for all the feedback, keep it coming. This one is a full app update, not an over-the-air one, so it comes through Google Play and the App Store. On Fire TV it comes through Settings -> Check for updates. Windows and the Mac get a new desktop build.
Fire TV and Windows Desktop should already have it (or will be available up to 20 minutes), the rest is under review which might take a couple of days.
Because Google Reviews are taking longer these days, I can offer the update earlier in internal testing. I will add some of you if you contacted me via email but if you haven't contacted me via email please send me a message on [mistyksu+internaltest@gmail.com](mailto:mistyksu+internaltest@gmail.com) that you are interested in participating in early version of 1.8.4. You should get an update immediately when I add you.
The internal test version will be available for a couple of days so make sure to download it immediately after I sent you the link.
The link to internal version test is here: https://play.google.com/apps/internaltest/4701180771226208691
Once I add you, you will be able to access the link.
Once production is approved you'll automatically get production version (it's basically the same).
If I missed something you requested, please let me know and I will have a look.
Big ones
- Jellyfin, Emby and Plex. Add your own media server next to your playlists. Jellyfin and Emby use your server address and account, Plex uses a code from plex.tv/link. Films and series show up in Movies, Series, Home and search, with posters and episodes. Watched status and resume position stay in sync with the server's other apps, subtitle files next to a film come along, and Skip intro works where the server knows the intro. Jellyfin and Emby also sync favourites, each profile can sign in as its own server user, and the server's Live TV comes with its guide and recording on the server.
- Light theme. A real light look: light background, dark text and a bright version of your theme picture. Settings -> Appearance -> Light colours, on every platform and in the account panel. Each profile picks its own, and the player stays dark.
- Panel opacity. Let your theme picture show through the side menu, panels and tiles: 100%, 85%, 70% or 55% in Settings -> Appearance. Text stays readable on any picture. Set per profile, also in the account panel.
- Auto trailers. Open a movie or series page and its trailer fades in right away, behind the title on the TV, Windows and Mac, or in place of the picture on the phone. You can have it muted or with sound. It's off by default (Settings -> Player), each profile chooses for itself, and it never plays on mobile data. Not on Apple TV and LG.
- Auto frame rate on Android TV and Fire TV. The TV switches to the frame rate of what you watch, so motion stops juddering. Settings -> Player, for films and series only or for live TV too.
- Your own subtitle file. Choose Load subtitles from a file in the subtitle list and pick an .srt or .vtt file. For a TV, send the file from your phone or from the account panel. The app remembers the file and its delay for that title.
- Subtitle position. Move subtitles higher or lower, in Settings -> Player or in the subtitle menu while watching.
From your requests
- Xtream: one channel in several categories. If your provider lists a channel in several categories, such as its own Favorites, it now shows in each of them, and the counts match. It stays one channel. Existing playlists fill in at their next update.
- Same order everywhere. The order of Favorites, Watchlist and your groups is now the same on every device and in the account panel.
- Finished series leave Continue watching. When you finish a series it leaves the row on its own, and comes back to the front when a new episode appears.
- Episode won't play? The error screen now offers other copies of the series that have the same episode and actually open it. Other copies in the episode menu shows them all.
- Guide from the player with categories. The Guide you open while watching now has the category list on its left, like TV Guide in the side menu: pick a category, favourites or a group, search or sort, while the picture keeps playing above (TV, Windows, Mac).
- Select mode on the TV. In Settings -> Categories, tick several categories, even across searches, then hide, pin, lock or remove them in one go. Lists inside a category have it too.
- Open a category on highlight. It opens as soon as you move onto it, without pressing OK. Turn it on in Settings -> General (TV, Windows, Mac).
- Side menu. Hide the items you don't use: Settings -> General -> Side menu (TV, Windows, Mac). Movies and Series hide themselves if your playlists have none.
- Darker channel list over the picture. Choose how dark the backdrop under the channel list is: Light, Medium (as before), Dark or Solid. Settings -> Player, on every platform and in the account panel.
- My groups on the TV, Windows and Mac keeps the side menu slim, like Movies and Series, so your groups get more room.
- Live TV only. When adding a playlist, one tap leaves out all films and series.
- Wider TV Guide channel column. Settings -> General. Long names that still don't fit scroll while highlighted.
- Programme description in the player on TV, Windows and Mac, when you press OK or change channel.
- Close the player with one key on Windows and Mac. Backspace or X closes what you're watching straight away, even in full screen. Esc in full screen now just leaves full screen.
- Series description shows right above the episode list.
- More themes: sunny, travel and after-dark pictures.
- Pause the mini player on the phone. The small picture above a channel or match has a pause button, and Go live takes you back.
- Tablets now rotate, so you can use them in landscape with a keyboard, and show more posters per row.
- Phone: EPG for channels in your own groups, the same way as in Live TV.
- Several guide sources added one after another all load now. Saving one no longer re-downloads all the others, which matters for services with download limits.
- US local channels with a call sign in the name, like Local FOX (KDFW), get their guide from an extra source.
- NAS. Delete a film from your network folder and it also leaves Downloads on the device that saved it.
- Catch-up recordings no longer cut off the channel you're watching when your account has one stream. They wait for a free stream.
Sports
- Sports mode shows scores from every team and league you follow, across all sports. Score popups also appear during films and series, named for the sport: a goal, a touchdown, a run, a try or a set. You can turn them off with Goal alerts.
- Hide scores. No spoilers on cards, lists, Home or the player until you tap Show score. Set per profile. All Sports settings are now on one page.
- Local stations. Games your TV guide shows on local stations, like an MLB playoff game on FOX or an NBA game on MSG, are now found and play there.
- League packages. Game channels from NBA, NHL and NFL packages now show with the match, and both teams' channels show under Might be on.
- Event channels in the guide. Channels named after a game or show, like the event channels of an NBA or NHL package, now show that game in the TV Guide, the channel list and the player at the time in the name, instead of No programme or a placeholder that doesn't name the game.
- Fixed: when your playlist has no country tags, a match now plays first on your country's rights holder (like Ligue 1+ in France) instead of another channel that only shows it in its guide.
- Fixed: a channel from another country suggested just because it has the same name, such as US TNT for a match on TNT Mexico.
- Fixed: the selected match in the Sports row on Home is no longer cut off at the edge or hidden under the side menu (TV, Windows, Mac).
- Fixed: Tomorrow and Yesterday breaking mid-word on the phone.
Fixes
- Android TV and Fire TV: VLC no longer squeezes films that aren't 16:9.
- Android TV: scrolling Movies, Series, channels and Home rows no longer skips presses or jumps while posters load. Right on the last poster of a row stays there, and left from the first poster of a category goes to the category list.
- Android TV: posters in Movies and Series keep their columns to the end of the list, with no gaps or unreachable posters, also at 125% and 150% interface size.
- Slower boxes such as the SHIELD no longer stall for up to a minute when saving favourites, progress and sync while old guide data is cleaned up.
- With several large guide sources, the app, TV Guide and sync no longer freeze during a guide update.
- TV: What's new and actor bios scroll with the remote.
- TV: right from the side menu gets into Home again when the top banner is off.
- TV: reordering sections in Settings -> Home works again.
- TV: pinning or hiding a category keeps the selection on the next one, so you can pin several in a row.
- Windows, Mac and LG: pressing up at the top of Home no longer jumps into the side menu, right from the side menu lands on the category you're in, and Trailer and Download on a title page reach the button next to them.
- Going back up to the Sports tabs shows them again (TV, Windows, Mac).
- Phone: playlist refresh shows as a small spinner on the tab instead of a message above the tab bar.
- Turning on encryption while signed out now takes you to sign in instead of showing an error.
- The hint under subtitle Delay names the right buttons.
Sports is still in beta, so feedback there is especially welcome. If something doesn't work for you or you're missing a feature, write it here!
And Apple TV - There are a lot of fixes for it but I'm planning to really focus on it this week
