General I'm so tired of this dumdass mentally that tracing makes some artist inferior to those who don't need to trace

Post image

This is like saying using references for you art is bad, am I now a bad artist cuz I have to my hand as a reference. It's such a dumb take ,cuz why would I need to change they way I like to draw to fit the way you draw. The worst part is the guy never brought up why he thinks tracing is bad besides "oh your 10 if you trace" which is like why even start an argument if you have no good points to say why your right and the other person is wrong.

Agreed. I really wanted to be an illustrator as a kid but even with practice I just couldn't get it. Now in my mid-30s I'm trying to pick it up again not for any professional ambitiona but just for me and my friends to enjoy

You should. I firmly believe that all people should have at least one physical hobby and one creative hobby, and the latter is more important.

Even if it means tracing your entire life, you should go for it, just so you can enjoy the process of creating, help or not. I think all people who do so will eventually move away from tracing anyway, BUT say you have some kind of problem or lack of desire to expand? That's fine too. Tracing CAN be a hobby as much as like... paint by numbers or gem art. You learn a bit more too.

We're of a similar mind. My firm belief re: hobbies is that we should each have at least three: one for health, one for creativity, and one for pure leisure (not to say you can't have more of course). For me my main three respectively are running, theatre, and gaming.

I used to also play instruments but that has fallen away after living in apartments for so long (don't want to be that noisy neighbor), but I get what you mean about just enjoying the act without placing the weight of perfection or monetization on them

I get you with apartments, I gave up the Banjo for it. I didn't have to but it was just too stressful and the motivation was too low. Anyway, I massively respect you. It's an easy way for me to tell if people can level with me, regardless of their level of success.

If you're ever in town I'll invite you to one of my Creationist parties! It's not about religion, it's where we all get together and work on projects.
