Announcements Regarding "Lanterns" and the Subreddit Rules
I feel a need to remind so many of you that rule #1 of this subreddit is simply entitled "CIVILITY." If you liked Lanterns or not, insulting others over a difference of opinion isn't a right. It's a privilege. And many of you so-called fans are being downright insulting to people who happen to have a different opinion than yours. I don't care if you liked Lanterns or didn't like it. If you're going to disagree, do so with CIVILITY. This is neither gatekeeping nor toxicity, it is an appeal to civility. Behave yourselves. It's possible to disagree without being insulting.
EDIT: Alright, I misspoke about one thing - the difference between rights and privileges. Yes, I got that wrong on a technical level... but the way some of these people behave, it's an abuse of a right. Freedom of speech is not freedom to be an irresponsible jackass. There's still a social contract. And insults are still a violation of the very first rule of this sub.

Discussion Am I the only one who thinks the Chrome lanterns are stupid?
(The image is from Green lantern corps #19)
For me they just seem like a cheap knockoff of the White lanterns. Like why would we need another corps that uses all the 7 colors? It just becomes less and less unique

Discussion John Stewart more like Alan Scott in Lanterns
This is my head canon that makes me enjoy the way Lanterns all shook out.
A lantern… but not that kinda lantern… but also that kinda lantern sorta.
Plus if he joins the Justice Gang, (or soon to be Justice Society), that would be the cherry on top.

Discussion Anyone else view Hal Jordan as secretly depressed in the comics?
NGL even though I really dislike Lanterns, when I learned more about Hal Jordan (especially his life during the post-crisis era), as someone with depression I started to interpret him as secretly depressed/suicidal for years now:
- watched his dad die in front of him
- chose to take on the very life-threatening job of being a test pilot like his dad despite knowing how he died (perhaps because he knew one way or another, he'd be close to his dad)
- had a drinking problem & was unconfident before he found the one thing he was good at (being a Green Lantern)
- after finding the one thing he was good at, he started having trouble making time for anything else (even the woman he loves) because of he now had responsibilities to take care of
- has a hard time staying employed (he's just like me fr)
- aside from your best friend Barry Allen, other heroes looked down on you for different reasons. for example, Green Arrow thought he was unworthy of the ring and not doing enough to help people, Superman thought you were a bum, etc. (they were slandering my GOAT even before it was cool 😭)
- knew his best friend Barry sacrificed himself to save the universe (but was busy protecting Oa to save him); lost his home city (the city he was meant to protect) to villains that weren't even his (even though he wields one of the most powerful weapons in the universe, who was once again powerless to stop it)
- given GL rings would also go on to choose Cruz & Baz later on, the rings really tends to choose people with a lot of emotional baggage
- in the end, your famous last words were "I hope I mattered"
what do you guys think, am I alone on this?

Comics Recommended Reading
In light of the recent upsurge in interest and popularity, and people request for reading material, I've noticed that there has been no mention of the GL graphic novel that will tickle the Fanboys pink...
Pre Geoff Johns. Elseworlds. You're welcome. I still have a copy and its for reading.

Discussion Do you guys like the logo projection?
I really don't love it, I don't feel like it does anything, I do like it earth one, they don't have a logo at all so the projected logo appears when a user puts the ring on, that makes sense. But why would the ring create a suit with a logo.....and then the same logo again floating in front. Also does it even appear in the pages? I've only seen it shown like this in covers.
Also dude this John Stewart suit rips omg

Question What are your thoughts on Sojourner Mullein?
She’s pretty much the last human Green Lantern that got introduced to the DC universe so she’s still relatively new but I won’t lie that I was very surprised and shocked that they choose her to be the main Green Lantern for the Absolute Universe given how relatively new and obscure her character is in comparison to the other Green Lanterns.

Discussion Didnt expect anything, ended up loving it (The Spectre 2001)
(For those who didnt know, after dying as Parallax, Hal Jordan came back to earth and combined with a spirit of vengeance and turned into The Spectre. He used this second chance to redeem himself, by redeeming other people from their mistakes)
Wanted to read Geoff John's Green Lantern run but decided to read the whole Parallax thing first. Got to The Spectre (2001), not expecting anything from a hero i never heard before starting this journey, and it ended up being one of my favorite comic books ever
Granted i havent read much, i'm still new to western comics. But even compared to all the manga ive read, The Spectre is definitely up there. Beautiful art by Ryan Sook and later Norm Brayfogle, and beautiful writing by J.M DeMatteis about Hal's journey in redeeming himself from the atrocities he comitted as Parallax, by helping other people in the world in finding their own redemption
I'll check out the original Spectre, though its definitely not gonna be the same because most of my attachment to the character is less to the spirit and more to Hal at this point in his life
And i'm kinda dissapointed to see his journey in that series seemed ignored in Rebirth, where the Spirit of Vengeance still exist even though Hal changed it to Spirit of Redemption. Also The Spectre just.. left. What happened to Minxx, his temple, and his niece???

3. Summary
In this story, green lantern notices a strange lack of ability when dealing with crooks. When he goes back to recharge his ring in an attempt to deal with this lack of power, Sinestro appears!
He sticks Green Lanterns ring to the power battery with a yellow power ring of his own. He then steals the Green Lanterns identity and jets off to an important meeting of the green lanterns.
Sinestro tricks the party into attacking an illusion of his and absorbs the power from their rings. Then he jets off, abandoning his disguise, to go face his enemy. The Guardians.
Green Lantern Escapes and goes straight to Oa where he know Sinestro is. He engages in a clash with Sinestro and uses his Green Power Ring to overwhelm Sinestros Yellow Power Ring. Sinestro is then brought to justice.
4. Review
Story & Writing
The plot is straightforward and easy to comprehend. There is slight ingenuity in the story regarding how Hal Jordan escapes Sinestro’s prison. This book introduces us to a lot of fellow Green Lanterns, the Main Power Battery, The Evil Power Ring and more of Oa, the Guardian homeworld. Unfortunately, the only thing Hal Jordan’s fellow colleagues talk about in this book is him. There are details written of 4 green lanterns from other worlds, but no name is revealed for every green lantern present in the book besides Hal Jordan. Even Tomar-Re’s name is not mentioned, a returning ally. Not even in mentioned in one of Broome’s notes.
Characters
No supporting character really stood out for reasons other than the fact that they’re alien allies of Green Lantern. even though there are a significant amount of them. Sinestro is still relatively new, but his pre established motive is something he probably will never be able to accomplish but will continually try. It sets up future problems for our hero.
Artwork & Presentation
Artwork is good and details what it needs for the story, panels are simple and easy to follow.
Standout Moments
The introduction to some of the Lanterns was probably the nicest thing about this book, even if they are hardly fleshed out. However I have to be honest, this is their first appearance for most of them and for me to believe they’re supposed to be very detailed characters is an unrealistic expectation for a book that mostly focuses on a conflict between Hal and Sinestro.
5. Final Thoughts
The story was enjoyable! Despite it lacking detail for modern standards, it delivers a tale that is easy to pick up and read. However, I can tell that these some of these stories will become harder to read without context in later issues.
Final Rating: 3/5
Best Moment: The multiple lanterns
Biggest Weakness: lack of depth

Question Is rebirth actually a good place to start?
I started reading it and it went into everything surrounding parallax and it was a lot to take in at once, are people sure this is a good place to start?
