MP3 had such good gameplay that I am frankly shocked that GTAVI (or V for that matter) has such underwhelming gun combat by comparison.

Do you mean IV and V? VI isn't out yet lol. Or are you basing it off the footage we've seen.

Basing it off the footage we saw. I have to imagine that if Jason was capable of doing crazy Max Payne shit like diving around and such, they'd have shown it off rather than showing off GTAV ProMax gunplay.

GTA isn't Max Payne, though. Max Payne 3 felt good even without all the dives, so GTA can as well.

The shooting in the extended look looked good to me, but I can't really judge until I get my hands on it; them removing the absurd aim assist was definitely the right choice.

Aim assist always had like 2-3 presets and you could always turn it off.

It's not about diving and bullet time, it's the fact that GTA5 and RDR2 were still built around their dated-as-hell auto aim/lock on system that goes back to GTA3. Yeah you can set them to free aim and tweak it, but I never could get either game to feel like a proper, smooth third person shooter, whereas Max Payne 3's aiming was smooth as butter.

God, I hope GTA6 is built for proper free aim rather than tacking it on as an afterthought.

300% agree! I absolutely loved the feel of multiplayer in MP3. It was just so much fun running around with dual pistols haha.

MP3 gunplay was kind of the testing ground for what they did did with gta 5. They're pretty much identical without the bullet time and upper body rotation

They are nothing alike.

Hey you can say that all you want. It's literally what Rockstar stated back when GTA 5 launched. They borrowed the mechanics for MP3 transitions between running and shooting/ the euphoria animation tech. Gta 4, 5, RDR, and MP3 all use this.

Phil Hooker spoke on this back in the day. As I said above, and for some reason this triggered you, MP 3 was a testing ground in a sense. They were able to advance their shooting mechanics with Euphorias animations too and test things out which is what made the shooting in MP3 so great.

However, they took more of the character weight, blended with the upgrades to Euphoria animations to create GTA 5. So they are quite literally shared systems with different flavors of the same thing.

GTA 5 shooting was an evolution of the combat system in 4, and incorporated tech improvements from MP3 and Red Dead Redemption. Quite literally what they did. Confirmed by Rockstar.

I don't know what it is with redditors that like to take opinion over objective fact and get some kind of raging hard on from saying "NO YOU'RE WRONG". We could have a discussion. A positive fun one. But nope. Not possible with people like this.

This is hilariously dull. No one says they play the exact same. It's the mechanics. You can have similar animations, and an entirely different feel to a game.

It's like if you made something out of ice cream, oreos, and whipped cream. You can use thos eexact same ingredients and also make a pie. They can be similar but still entirely different products.

Not hard to understand, but apparently for you that makes you upset and you're not capable of complex thought. Only binary.

I know I'm dumb as fuck, but I'm really tired of people like this making me feel smart.

Idk why anyone would say they're nothing alike. I didn't hear them speak about the game mechanics, but I still felt gtaV, rdr2, and mp3 had a similar feel with moving, aiming and shooting, obviously tweaked for each game and gun. Like it felt so obvious to me.

Also, why would they make completely new and different systems for the same things in similar games? 🙃
