Epic Games' new store is fully vibe-coded, and they're so proud of it they're taking shots at Steam

Sweet, claiming my free weekly games and closing out the app so I can get back to gaming on steam will be faster now, GG "Vibe Coders"

I wonder if there will ever be a time in our lives when we’re like 60 and we’re like “oh thank Christ I downloaded all these Epic Store games”

Honestly I stopped checking the free games section because I had this revelation. The free games are spectacular when you're young, low-income, or have other expensive responsibilities/hobbies, but now I'm an adult with a good job, I truly don't mind just buying games on Steam because it's a superior platform and I haven't played a single free EGS title in half a decade or so. Expanding my collection was just a weird ritual and most of the games in my library don't even seem like fun games.

There's also something to be said for time constraints or desire. As I've gotten older, I have less time to spend "wasting" on just playing games for the sake of playing games.

It's dope when you're in your early to late teens that you have all of these free games to just mess about in.

I still have the time, but I don't spend it "trying out" games. I know what I'd like to play, and that's where my time goes as opposed to "lets give this free Epic Store game a shot". Sure if it's something I've been looking forward to but in the vast majority of those cases I've already bought the game on Steam or what have you.

I just don't have the need to "experiment" with games anymore. I'm usually pretty confident whether or not I'd like any given game based off of the trailers, genres, descriptions, videos and reviews.

Probably not, they'll probably remove your license before they give you a chance to want to use them

The only game I've played is Genshin Impact, and only because it's not available on Steam.

genshin impact has its own launcher which might be why its not on steam

Not sure. Might be an exclusivity deal with Epic for that one game. The same developer/publisher has other games on Steam, just not Genshin 🤷🏻‍♂️

As I don't play any of the games I just use browser. No need to keep it on drive.

I don't even have the app downloaded any more, I just redeem games in the browser. 1 less crap to install

The first time I realized I’d rather pay $15 to play a game on Steam they I already had on Epic was the last time I bothered claiming their free games.

I have bought 4 games on Epic but have well over a hundred in my library. All 4 games I have bought on Epic, I subsequently also got on Steam on sale so they can be in my "proper" library where I have 468 games. I always take the free game, then close the program as it must cost Epic money 🤣
