Epic Games' new store is fully vibe-coded, and they're so proud of it they're taking shots at Steam

Someone hit a nerve with Tim and now he's trying to prove something without knowing anything I guess.

Dude couldn't just be happy raking in the Fortnite money.  I will never understand the mentality of the super wealthy.

A lot of people in high level exec positions are psychotic / neurotic / narcissistic / etc etc etc. it makes sense when you think about what type of behavior gets rewarded by the corporate system

Tim likes money, but there's a deeper motivation than that for him - he's convinced he's correct about everything. You can see it in interviews where he talks about software and gaming, the guys ego is insane. He happens to be rich now, but that fundamental part of who he is would be there even if he had a more normal life like the rest of us. We all know a Tim Sweeney.

Yep. The dumbest person I know in real life is a coworker I have who is so full of himself that I'm convinced if our higher ups asked if anyone can build a rocket go to mars he'd volunteer and be completely serious.

He fell for an investment scam last year because the CEO of the investment company called him personally to a zoom meeting (it still had the AI watermark in the corner of the video)

Its frustrating these people get so rich and we all suffer listening to their shit and suffering the fallout of it. Like none of this is necessary.

I mean… Fortnite cannot live forever.

It’s a good call to invest into building up new IP while the money is good, like how Nintendo did.

Unfortunately they seem more inclined to dump it into competing with Steam

Building their own store honestly wasn't even a bad idea. Remember when the Epic store came out everyone else was building their own launchers too. It seemed to be the wave of the future.

And then publishers realized that maintaining that crap is expensive and nobody wants to install a launcher for one game. Epic decided to double down on that since they have the Unreal engine and could host a bunch of games made in their engine for cheap. But Dim Tim decided for some reason that instead of trying to make their store better, he would try throwing money at publishers (literally giving them a bigger cut of game sales and buying exclusives) and that would somehow translate into everyone abandoning Steam for Epic.

He's actually in a predicament at the moment, because Fortnite is hemorrhaging players. They've been doing a ton of collabs which is keeping things going for now, but it's also increasing the artistic schizophrenia of the game. They're still doing fine, but he knows he has to keep things fresh to keep players spending money and... there are only so many ways you can do that to a Battle Royale. It's getting harder and harder to onboard new players as the game becomes more complex and overwhelming, but the old heads will get bored if you don't. So he has to look to the future, but most of his successful investments have been in his company's single colossally successful product rather than having a wide variety of income sources that would reduce his risk.

An update that makes Fortnite super unpopular could kill the company basically overnight.

it's literally partial looter shooter now with the sprites system which I know some people just do not like, game in general just runs like ass, and they're prepping some ai vibecode only disney mode that I just know is not going to end well.

current season is all video game stuff, they don't have many good options left.

I will never understand the mentality of the super wealthy.

I've been suspecting for quite some time that too much money leads to brain damage.

It's amazing how similar Tim behaves like Trump when his feelings get hurt. I guess narcissists always act the same.
