Any yet… it didn’t. No one told it to I guess. Wonder why? Maybe because AI code is not as perfect as they want to make us believe?
It can code it and it can code it well are two very different things. And when it comes to user uploaded data that code better be absolutely secure. Maybe they don’t want people to upload viruses? Or maybe they don’t want to show how empty their platform truly is?
No one serious is saying AI code is perfect, but reading opinions on here about AI is embarrassing, because it’s so clear a lot of people have no idea on how AI works or is used in coding.
Every single serious tech organisation is using AI extensively in their work. The last two years have been transformative, and I’ve seen people who were completely against AI realise just how revolutionary it is for software engineering. You might not like that, but you don’t get to decide reality.
I understand and accept the use of AI. I just don’t trust Epic of all companies to have checked its work. And AI on its own produces code that usually lags like hell and has more of a security suggestion. Clearly the lag isn’t present here. That combined with the fact that Steam is pretty well optimized asks the question where the performance comes from? Is it simply that epic has a quarter of the features? Or have there been trade offs in safety, verification and encryption? Because you can’t tell me Steam was badly optimized or that the programmers at valve overlooked the obvious.
I don’t trust an improvement this significant after years of barely any improvement. Something was sacrificed for this. And I don’t want to be part of the group that has to figure out what it was the hard way. Because no matter how good or bad AI is, the processing power of my computer didn’t change. So the number of operations or their complexity dropped. That asks what exactly was left out. And I can’t find any information about that. And I am not sure Epic knows either. Otherwise they would be assuring us that they dropped the spyware or no longer reinstall and verify the integrity of all games and the launcher on every start or something. But they didn’t. If I knew how I had achieved that much of an improvement I would most certainly talk about it. Yet no one does, at least as far as I know. So, does that mean no one actually knows? Or worse: that no one capable of recognizing critical flaws was involved at all? I don’t know, and I don’t want to be the guinea pig used to find out.
AI is a tool. But the idea that it codes all on its own and creates good products is a flawed one. As quick prototyping? Sure. Fast iteration of ideas with absolutely no intention of selling it or spreading it as a safe system to customers. Or as a kind of assistant. No problem. But having people pay for a product of straight up unknown quality and safety is immoral and wrong, no matter how it was created.

It's not. Cause you need actual humans to go through and test all that code and make sure it not only runs properly but leaves no opening to be exploited for malicious intent.
It can code better than the vast majority of people. It does not code what its not told to code though. AI that coded things it was not told to and out of scope of what it was supposed to do would be horrendous.
id rather they didnt, so they can continue losing money by giving me hundreds of free games while i adamantly refuse to spend a single cent while i keep lining gabens pockets lmao
Openly stating that you want them to stay in business so you can keep stealing their games is not the flex that you think it is.
Edit: See what happens when you randomly decide to be an asshole for no real reason than to be an asshole? You end up like me and make a complete ass out of yourself having completely misread the post I replied to. Don't be me, don't be the asshole.

Hm so their fully hand made store couldn’t compete with steam, but a fully vibe coded one will be able to…?
